If you had played GW1 then you probably knew about invinci monks, 600hp monk, shadow form, all the speed clears that are going on (areas that are meant to last a few hours, cleared in 15 mins). Anet kept nerfing skills, but the community always came up with something new. Charging money may make this harder because the casual gamer wont have much money... "not even a gold coin" may be a lot for many players.
The casual gamer will however not change traits all that often anyway though.
And even those gamers will have more than enough money for a trait-change now and then.
Using special chars in your name is an automatic entry for the ignore list. I certainly won't be trying to send tells to anyone with them.
I think you're only spiting yourself if you do this. There are a lot of great people on the internet that don't want to think about a screen name as much as others and that shouldn't be a problem. The whole cheesy don't judge a book thing, etc etc...
