Experienced MMOer LF Guild (MST)

03 August 2012 - 01:46 AM

I am looking for a fairly good sized guild (maybe 100 people at least?) to do everything with. I will probably end up doing WvWvW for the most part at first, but I am also very interested in doing exploration dungeons and sPvP tourneys.

Currently I am planning on rolling a Warrior with a focus on Rifle combat. Obviously my skill and trait setup will change with what I am doing, but I want to use either a shout or banner heavy setup for my utility skills.

I know I put Mountain time in my title, but I am not really that picky if you are a CST or PST guild. I am also not that picky about what world to roll on. I was planning on Sorrow's Furnace, but I don't think that is happening anymore. Thanks!

Edit: I have found a guild that I think is a good fit, thank you for all of the offers.

Ranger or Warrior?

31 July 2012 - 07:04 AM

Hey all,

I have read a ton of threads discussing class balance and all that, so I wasn't sure where to put this question as I didn't want to derail any of the other threads.

Over the past week or so, I have been going back and forth almost daily about which profession to play first come launch. I played a ranger to 20 or so and a warrior to about 10 during BWE3, so I don't think I necessarily got an accurate representation of the full power of either profession.

So I would like to ask you nice people to try and help me make this decision. I will give a little background of my MMO gaming experience and what type of character I am looking for:

I dabbled in FFXI for a couple of months. I got very into WoW when it was released and played that almost exclusively for about 7 years (I quit around Oct 2011, so before Dragon Soul was released). After that I played SW:ToR for about 4 months before giving up on it. During my time in WoW I raided at a pretty high level. A rough estimate would be I was in guilds that would hover around top 100-150 US, with my peak coming in Cata being a 10 man guild that made it to top 25 US during the first tier. I never pvp'ed much in WoW, but I did a ton in SW:ToR.

The point I am trying to make with this, is that I feel like I have a solid grasp of the MMO genre. I also realize that this game isn't like most other MMO's (no trinity, etc.).

So finally, here is my situation: I want to play a primarily ranged class (ie. use a bow, rifle or pistols most of the time), but I don't want to be rendered useless if I am forced into melee range. I played a ranger in BWE3 and I did enjoy it, but I did find the pet mechanic to be a bit...clunky, for lack of a better word. Despite what people have been saying about longbow rangers, I thought my damage output was fine. My real question here, is should I play a ranger if I don't feel like dealing with a pet? I have been hearing that warriors perform just as well at range using a longbow or rifle, as a ranger, but doesn't have a clunky pet AI to deal with/rely on for damage. I like the IDEA of a ranger with a longbow, but the more I read, the more it seems like I should play a warrior and use a longbow or rifle.

Also, I am looking to do everything. PvE, sPvP, and WvWvW.

The only problem I have with all of this, is that everyone's opinions are being based off of BWE3, which had little to no balancing done to it. I realize that having multiple characters is not the end of the world (ie. I can just level both), but what I don't want to happen is I roll a warrior at launch, with the intention of being ranged most of the time, invest a lot of time into  it and regret if/when they make balancing changes that make ranger superior from range.

Any thoughts, tips, suggestions, insights would be much appreciated. I really don't want this to turn into an argument about which profession is better at this stage in balancing, I am looking for a discussion for which class is right for ME, with considerations of what people think might happen in the future in terms of balancing.

Sorry about the long post.
