Gold seems useless considering you get very few gold drops from monsters, and experience is...meh? There's other means for magic find too. I would say that +15% karma is the best upgrade out of those which will get you the most in the long run (if only to convert using orrian jewel boxes).

I for one find the GW2 stance on Charr much better than in GW1.
In GW1 they were just the bad guys, while in GW2 there are differences.
Charr are a society, where different people have different opinions.
What feels better?
1) A pure good/bad portrait like we had in GW1. Charr were evil that killed the good humans.
or
2) A more variable society, where some Charr are hostile to almost everything (flame legion), some only accept the peace treaty with the humans, and where some charr just live among other races.
This feels much more realistic/mature to me..

I think that's why Urgoz and the Deep were so much fun, you had to play with other people. Yea sometimes they sucked but it was the unknown human element that made it interesting.
I suggest getting yourself a good playing group to go through ALL of the content with.

But, I think a design driven around cash shop caan't really offer what many players are looking for. I thought a lot about why ANET keeps making stupid decisions off-late. I think I am about to conclude that everything GW2 designers think to implement must somehow be themed to utilize cash shop, directly or indirectly. I believe, that's what is hurting the game and make you feel "something is missing".

Heal@80 = Base + (Healing power*HP ratio)
ALL RATIOS ROUNDED TO MOST CONVENIENT DIGIT
- Regeneration (boon) = 130 base, 0.125 HP ratio
- Monk's Focus (trait) = 1960 base, 0.1 HP ratio
- Selfless Daring (trait) = 129 base, 1.0 HP ratio (0.5 HP ratio in pvp)
- Writ of the Merciful (trait) = 107 base, 0.075 HP ratio
Weapon Skills - Faithful Strike = 463 base, 0.1 HP ratio
- Symbol of Faith = 520 base, 0.5 HP ratio
- Orb of Light = 980 base, 0.33 HP ratio
- Empower = 1500 base, 1.0 HP ratio
Virtue of Resolve - Virtue of Resolve (passive) = 84 base, 0.06 HP ratio
- Virtue of Resolve (boosted) = 243 base, 0.06 HP ratio
- Virtue of Resolve (active) = 1625 base, 0.75 HP ratio
Healing skills - Shelter = 4555 base, 0.7 HP ratio
- Signet of Resolve = 8150 base, 1.25 HP ratio
- Healing Breeze (self) = 6525 base, 1.0 HP ratio
- Healing Breeze (other) = 1725 base, 1.0 HP ratio
Utilities - Sanctuary = 2660 base, 0.5 HP ratio
- Merciful Intervention = 1320 base, 0.2 HP ratio
- Heal Area (ToC elite) = 1320 base, 0.5 HP ratio
1. Regeneration is calculated by second, a regeneration boon that lasts 10 seconds will have a 0.125*10 ratio total, or a 1.25 HP ratio.
2. The mace skill, symbol of faith, gives 4x copies of regeneration stacked intensively.
