#2287341 Watchwork Mining Pick

Posted Illein on 29 January 2014 - 03:54 PM

RL currency has an in-game gold value: if you wanted the best value for your buck, you wouldn't have bought the pick. You would have traded it for gold and you'd be using that gold to buy picks of merchants and sprockets of the TP.

If, on the other hand, you bought the pick for convenience (which is the ONLY reason why buying it made sense), then I don't understand the bitching about the few silver you are not making. You bought it well aware that you'll be losing money.

Maybe I am WAY off here, but I simply don't like two things about this whole mining pick disaster:

1) Other people getting something better than I, for the same price. (Petty as it may be)
2) ANet changing something that didn't need changing on a whim, just to create more income for themselves. Making something people paid money for, obsolete, in favour of a new shiny.

Could very well be I am just unreasonable and it's really not as much of a dick move as I currently feel it is, but right now - I am still very much bothered by that implementation.

PS.: I don't care for the pick not paying itself any time soon, I didn't buy it so it would. WHICH DOESNT MEAN at the same time, that I don't care that the sprocket pick will amortises itself quicker than mine. Hell yeah I care, bugs the shit out of me, ironically enough! ;)

#2282552 Harsher Penalties for leaving pvp

Posted Khrushchev on 19 January 2014 - 08:30 PM

I feel that a loss of glory/rank points is too harsh a punishment (Sometimes people disconnect involuntarily, and 5k glory/rank takes quite a while to gain if you aren't doing Team Arenas). I do agree that the punishment for leaving a match and not being able to join should be harsher. I also agree that the team who loses a member shouldn't be punished with regards to leaderboards.

I feel that instead, a better situation would be:
Person who quits:
First quit: 12 hour Dishonorable | Second quit: 24 hour Dishonorable | Third quit: 48 hour Dishonorable | etc... Capped at 1 week.
Quit # resets after 1 week with no quitting.
  Heavy reduction in leaderboard rating.

Team person who quits left:
If loss: Leaderboard rating does not change.
If win: Leaderboard rating calculated against opposing team in addition to person who quit.

I believe the heavy punishment with regards to not being able to play would prevent people from quitting once they knew the consequences.

#2279870 ArenaNet to "address [...] the dominance of Berserker/DPS"

Posted Illein on 13 January 2014 - 03:12 PM

Oh and I feel this should have a place here : https://forum-en.gui...rst#post3487840

It's basically a summary of what the problem is regarding the Zerker Meta and how to address it best. I found myself in overwhelming agreement with nearly every one of his points and the subsequent suggesstions of his to redeem those issues.

It might actually be the first time I considered that without the trinity, there can still be meaningful encounters and mob mechanics that could be interesting as a whole.

Can't help but notice you didn't mention any of the Greatswords. How come?

Because even an Asuran's grandmother has one.

Maybe she will make an alliance of the elder dragons and makes them into a hyrbid! Then after we defeat the chimeric dragon she teleports away and the end chest gets you 2 greens, a blue, and a rare chance at a mini middle finger of scarlets'.

#2240819 Does GW2 need damage meters?

Posted Illein on 05 October 2013 - 03:31 PM

I don't even want to go as far as needing a DPS meter in the classical sense of comparing yourself with everyone else in your group - all I really would like to have, is a tool to gauge my own personal DPS in a vacuum.

Something like dummies, but actually working correctly, conditions, boons, the whole range of possible group buffs available to me while I try things out. Properly adjustable and most of all exact in its out-put, I think it'd be a quite some fun to play around with it and see what exactly this or or that trait, utility, rune, whatever does for me DPS wise.

#2231968 Official forums since last patch...

Posted Fantasy Trope on 08 September 2013 - 03:05 PM

I think the release of more ascended gear is reopening old wounds.  Some people have in the back of their minds this quote from Colin:

Quote

Colin Johanson: Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It's all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions - a lot of that is still up in the air and we'll finalise a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons - the raids.

I'm not interested in complaining for the sake of complaining.   This question has been asked in various ways by various people, but I would like to revisit it.  How is it possible to return to horizontal, cosmetic based progression?

Let's take a hypothetical: ArenaNet observes the massive number of complaints and is genuinely worried that stat creep was a mistake.  The devs would like a way out.

My suggestion is austere, but I think it is necessary at this stage: make a video that announces ascended was the wrong direction and plans are in place to drastically reduce the amount of time and resources necessary to obtain "the best statistical loot in the game."  This video contain the following:
  • A promise that ascended is the final tier (and the final increase in stats).
  • Plans to design better cosmetic rewards--armors and everlasting tonics, for example.
  • Develop systems for these rewards that tie them to feats of skill (speed clearing a difficult dungeon, clearing a dungeon without any party downs, defeating a set number of monsters in an instanced encounter, etc.) rather than RNG boxes or excessive material grinds.
  • Provide players who have already obtained ascended gear the option of turning in their old ascended for an equitable amount of materials and/or gold.  They can keep their current gear if they prefer, of course.
  • Explain the reasons ascended was introduced in the first place: not the marketing "reasons," but the serious ones, such as a concern about losing player retention or a change in philosophy of the developers.  Public relations personnel should not be allowed to edit or critique this part; it needs to be as honest and open as possible.
  • Plans for a new activity: The Skill Hunt.  (This could coincide with a larger, much needed revamp of the skill system.)  Horizontal progression can be maintained by hunting elite and powerful bosses, whose skills must be captured after they are defeated, much in the spirit of GW1.
At least that's how I would go about it.

#2223950 Election Standings - August 2nd

Posted Andemius on 03 August 2013 - 01:14 PM

Still gonna be voting Kiel. I don't buy keys, so that reduction is moot for me. I'm not the kind of person who has so little money they can't afford waypointing, and I'm not rich by any stretch.

Kiel's had more to do with the story thus far, so I can see why people would vote that way. If there was a way to prevent southsun survival coming back, I'd vote that way. It's a terrible minigame imo.

100 votes per player per day?
Wtf, they don't drop that often.
average player would probably vote less than 100 times throughout the whole 2 weeks.

Those things drop like nothing else. I have 4 stacks sitting in the bank.

#2222979 New Armor in the Gem Store

The phoenix armor is really pretty... except for the shoes.  That's some amateur looking stuff right there and I know their artists can do better.  I'll pass.

Posted Skaald on 30 July 2013 - 12:16 PM

I only wish you could buy separate pieces, I like the monocle on medium armour but rest is meh. Likewise I'd love the top of Krytan armour (since it's not a buttcape) but nope, gotta get full set if you want that particular piece.
That aside, Braham's armour looks pretty good, too bad my heavy's already have gear I like :P

#2222753 What's the one feature you'd like to see GW2 import from another MMO?

Posted Bryant Again on 29 July 2013 - 11:29 AM

A better transmutation system. Rift's is probably one of the best things about it, I'd go crazy with skin hunting if GW2's was similar.

As of today there's now a giant tent and construction sounds coming from what used to be a giant hole in Divinity's Reach. Curious to know what all of you think this might be. August living story, anyone?

#1805459 how much time will you require to get to 80?

I'll get there when I get there.. Don't know how long it'll take, don't care. :P

Oh look, another thread stating their profession is broken.

I think I've seen a thread like this for each and every profession which could only mean one thing... If everything is broken then *gasp* that must mean everything is balanced!!
