#2183993 True Evolution or Intelligent Design?

Posted ShezuTsukai on 26 March 2013 - 01:28 PM

The posibility of the Asura having the potential enherent must not be overlooked. The golfer analogy says it well that just because they were underground they looked they way they did. As soon as surface light was experienced skin tone and eye color emerged.

I do not wish to discuss real world theories. But relating by example possibly and using words (because language is limited) that relate to said theories might be necessary for the discussion. I want to emphasize that the OP is not a discussion of Darwin vs God.

As far as the Pale Tree not choosing the look of Sylvari I disagree. Other plant forms that already existed such as Oakhearts might have been a better choice for survivability. I would guess that it was a game designer decision because straying too far from a bipedal sapienish character would be ilreceived by players. But in a strictly game/lore discussion discounting meta game the design seems purposefully chosen.

I think the Charr might be a good example of evolution. Their biology is not enherently given to bipedal movement thus the regression to quadruped for running. An excellent character design for flavor meta speaking. But also showing transition element potential. More history would be needed.

#2156522 Dynamic Leveling Adjustment

Posted Mastruq on 02 February 2013 - 08:56 AM

The downscaling feature is one of the best things about GW2. I love having the game available to me without annihilating the entire zone with every footstep. I want the downscaling to become more severe though, because like others said it is still total faceroll even after the patch. If they upscale rewards in turn even better, maybe we eventually settle for nearly identical DE rewards to being in an 80 zone doing DEs there.

#2151623 Ele nerf later?

Posted Bloggi on 26 January 2013 - 11:05 PM

If we're panicking about what they could or might do to a d/d ele, think about what could then happen to a staff ele, or even a wells (and staff) necro. It'd be interesting to see what would eventuate from this. We live in an ever changing world and it's no different in GW2 apparently! :D

#2150237 What do GW1 players think of GW2?

Posted StormDragonZ on 24 January 2013 - 10:04 PM

Question 1: Name a game similar to GW1.

Question 2: Name a game similar to GW2.

I'm guaranteed you can answer Question 2 faster than #1 because there was, possible is, no game similar to GW1.

Yet ANet swore GW2 would be the game different from the other MMOs out there...

#2150495 Why do people want mounts?

....wut?  you can cross the game world instantly as it it.  waypoints make the world seem small.

What I meant is that when running through a zone it will feel smaller, e.g. when you're completing a zone and typically just run between sections.

Honestly there is nothing more immersion breaking than running up to an NPC to have your character interact with them than when someone comes along and has their horse stand INSIDE you...

They can simply not allow mounting in cities, there's no need for it and everyone walking around in a city is much more immersive than mount piles (or MOUNTains lolol) on the mailbox.

Look up the term "false pride".

You shouldn't need to host your name on screen if you already know what you've accomplished. It's incredibly shallow and insecure notion to "need" or want this. The game is already very visual in that you can see those who are more accomplished than others, just by armor and weapons they have. If you don't feel any satisfaction from your accomplishments unless you have your name plastered on it then you have some serious emotional issues. There are plenty of people who do great things and never get any acknowledgment, nor do they need it to be happy.

You clearly don't know what false pride is. Self-targetting would only help those who want to see their own achievements. Said achievements can already be seen by everyone else. If you're going to spew such idiotic vitriol at least make sure you understand the terms you ask people to look up.

I guess every armor you are wearing should look the same to you too then. We could also have standardized character models, because only other people need to see your "real" character. Also, the player wielding a Legendary should of course only see a starter weapon, it would save FPS and there's really no point in seeing the Legendary since you already know you have it right?

#2146141 Kurzicks and Canthans: The Walk, the Talk, the Looks

Posted BuddhaKeks on 19 January 2013 - 01:30 PM

I'm all for not offending people or use stereotypes that make cultures look bad, but preventing the rest of the gaming world to see content, because of nationalistic pride goes a bit too far. I get they don't like getting mixed up by clueless westerners, but mixing up cultures is a stable in fantasy fiction. If the game was about the real world and real cultures, yes mixing them up would be wrong, but it's fantasy world and Anet can do whatever they want with it and they should.

I had heard something along the same lines, as to why Cantha wasn't going to happen. Although I never got an actual link or dev interview or anything, so I assumed it was just rumor. Hopefully it is just a rumor, it wouldn't make sense to leave such a huge part of the story hanging like that. Maybe they'll just make Cantha better off than Tyria - more reason for a beneficial dragon to reside there.
Sure it wasn't for the DR's Canthan district? Cuz that would make more sense than an entire continent and/or game expansion. Cutting it for favor of a portion of the demographic, that is.

And nah, no benevolent dragon. It'll be revealed that Kuunavang was the Six Gods' attempt at cloning Elder Dragons by infusing Forgotten DNA into the fetus - since the Forgotten had magic which couldn't be corrupted - thus creating a race of draconic supersoldiers, intended to protect the world against the Elder Dragons' rise. But shit hit the fan when the Jade Wind broke out.

#2134000 New maps for WvW on the way?

Posted Ramanadjinn on 03 January 2013 - 03:35 AM

That map severely disadvantages the green team.

Am I wrong in thinking that would actually just prevent green from accruing as many points as they could in an even matchup.  Wouldn't this make matches more stale as green would rarely be able to move up a tier from such a disadvantaged position, even when they are ready to move.

Not only that but it would be that much easier for red to just hold out on defense while green and blue fight giving red the ability to sit in a tier longer than maybe they should.

I could be wrong, but I would imagine that would lead to tiers sitting with the same server for an extremely long period of time.

Having been to a lot of MMORPG boards, I've seen of alot of familiar faces spilling hate/doom and gloom for a considerable amount of the game's lifespan, sometimes across multiple boards. This frankly doesn't help the image that MMORPG players are a bunch of no-lifers.

Oh well, at least it provides an endless source of entertainment when I queueu for my Dota 2 game.

MMO's are the only genre where people dedicate thousands of hours to a single game, no wonder they then want to defend it no matter what.

I do believe, soccer/american football fans are worse though.

#2119577 Sick Of 5 man INSTANCES

I bought this game because it was going to get away from instances.  It was going to be a persistant world. But here we go with Wintersday and what do we get a 5-man INSTANCE. Go back to the Holloween model as soon as possible. It was more persistant.  You went. You played. You got some stuff. You left. You didn't have to listen to crap from anyone about why you lost or people being kicked.  I came here because of the events and so far Wintersday is one big instance flop.

For crying out loud its Wintersday let's be inclusive.  The jumping puzzle at Holloween was too hard for me and so probably is the one here. The music one I just don't understand yet, I have to give it some time.

But so far this game is more expensive than WoW or Rift.  I've spent more on gems than a year for eithor of the others.
Well what do you want - it's a choice between either Zerg or instance.
Personally I'd pick instances. And it's very easy to get a group and the instance isn't even remotely challenging.
