but doing always the same thing would be quite boring in my humble opinion
although 1. avoiding kiling mobs that do not count in your map completion, 2. avoiding DEs on the current map, 3. avoiding any other source of XP, seems almost impossible ... quite a challenge, though ^^

if you want to discover the game, just go with the flow with one aim in mind (yours would be to complete the current map) : you see a DE, do it, you see someone needs help, help her/him, you have your daily to complete, do this and et caetera

excluding every part of the huge GW2 gameplay but yours seems ... to be your very own opinion =)

I do guess this is related to the new weapons skins (awesome charr/dredge fusion look) you can get at the LA's refugees camp for 1 new token which can be acquired *only* by opening BL chests, hence mostly buying BL chest keys ... hence the drastic increase of the gem/gold exchange rate
