My (quite recently reinstalled) copy is 15.5 gb. As Roybe pointed out though, if you can get gw2.dat file (preferably updated) somewhere else the download would be trivial.

You can sometimes find it reported in the dynamic event section of the official forums: https://forum-en.gui...rum/game/events
Also various timers which provide info about events can be helpful but, in my experience, are very often unreliable.
If there is another way I'd like to know it too.

You could do world bosses events (behemoth, maw, fire elemental etc...) on your lvl 80 for a daily guaranteed rare (each rare goes for around 25s each which from how you describe your monetary situations although not much but would help). Also, have you tried running some dungeons? That can give you some money plus it'll give you tokens to convert into armor/weapons for when your thief reaches 80. Cof p1/2 are the most run ones, but it's quite easy to find parties for AC, TA and more. As far as I know most people gain huge ammount of money by playing tp but that requires to have a certain ammount of money to invest.
