#2189035 New Shirts and Vests in the Gem Store

Same company, and as such the priorities are not where people want them. NO ONE should be working on town clothes...ugly ones at that whenever you have much more pressing issues like say, events not working, anything halting progression, broken mechanics, broken skills, you know important game stuff...but hey if you do preface your posts, I bet you will hear less opinions, so have at it mate :D

Now if town clothes was allowed to be worn as armor, there could be a ton happier people with releases of new town clothes and stuff

Sorry, but this line of thinking makes no sense. I'm pretty sure the people designing town clothes don't have the same skill-set as those working on other things, hence why they are on the "design" team and not the "game bug" team. And I seriously doubt me prefacing the articles would prevent people from voicing their opinion. My comment was geared more toward the unnecessary whining and ranting.

Geez, maybe I should preface every post like this with how ArenaNet has different teams for different aspects of the game. :\ The people designing town clothes are not the same people responsible for bug fixing and other gameplay issues.

#2146590 CO transferring to Kaineng

Posted Falfyrel on 20 January 2013 - 06:14 AM

As a Kaineng player since launch, I have very mixed feelings about this mass wave of guild transfers.

One of the greatest things about the WvW on Kaineng was that we were the biggest underdog server in the game. We didn't fight to win: we fought to stand our ground as much as possible despite a virtually-nonexistent WvW population. Holding a supply camp was a BIG DEAL - capturing a tower was virtually unheard of. I still have fond memories of organizing a small raiding group of 4-5 people and flipping supply camps even as the other two factions controlled half of the map per side. And in many ways, this back-against-the-wall styled WvW was a heck of a lot of fun - frustrating since all your progress was ephemeral and you could never organize anyone enough to end up making a lasting effect. But then again, Kaineng's WvWing populace - what little of it there was - was unfathomably tenacious, bordering on masochistic. During a brief period where I transferred to Borlis Pass while it was in the bracket to get 100% WvW completion, I remember feeling nothing but respect for the Kaineng players I saw that did fight on.

Nowadays, the "old WvW" of Kaineng is beyond unrecognizable. We own 90-100% of the map at all times, there are hordes of coordinated guilds dominating everything in sight, enemy players are extremely difficult to find due to the teamstacking (and yes, it IS teamstacking, and no matter what the OP says this is a bandwagon)... It's nice being able to visit the jump puzzle whenever I want and get through without fear of enemy players, but more and more, I'm finding that it's nowhere near as fun as it used to be. There's extremely little satisfaction in knowing that your team is dominating the enemy so thoroughly that there's almost no fighting to be had, and even less in knowing that it was due to tons of teamstackers who got fed up with the higher tiers.

I've been considering transferring off the server onto some place like Sorrow's Furnace, and probably would have already had it not been for the social network I've built here. WvW just isn't fun anymore. There's no room to build a small raiding team to take out objectives because the dozens of commanders are spearheading things and oftentimes shouting out those that try to lead in their stead; there's nothing to raid since the commanders have already taken it; the extremely-outmatched feeling from before has been replaced with mindless zerging; and there's not even the satisfaction of "sticking it to the winning side" when you've already won your current tier matchup halfway through the week. It's nice winning for once, again; but I much preferred things the way they were, even if they were extremely unsuccessful.

Kaineng was special before because it was the underdog server. You didn't go to Kaineng to win, but it nonetheless offered a very genuine, unique WvW experience that many of the brave few on it chose because it wasn't the higher-tier gameplay. Who cares if we always lost and repair costs were through the roof?- that wasn't the point. The point was always defying the odds and attempting to succeed anyways.

Nowadays? Odds - they don't even exist. It's exactly what the old WvWing populace here wanted to escape from - dozens of high-profile commanders tossing orders around, mindless zerging, and the continually-growing assumption that you're only on the server to teamstack.

Please stop transferring to Kaineng.

What does Yak's Bend have to offer CO?

The question should be "What does CO have to offer Kaineng" Because to be honest, its pointess to join a server thats already raping in WvW. You wont be much help there. Its better to join a server that's struggling like Yaks Bend or any of Kaineng's opponents, that way you can actually make a difference.

I dont think a thread like this has been made before? Anyway, also post the difficulty scale you're in (because some nice fractals get much more annoying past a certain level).

They're trying to cater both groups, but I don't see how they can achieve that.

Honestly, it seems cut and dry to me: Keep it optional.

The current presence of ascended gear, at the end of a very long (*cough-notworthit-cough*) tunnel provides such a miniscule bonus as to be easily ignored by anyone with a level head or just plain not interested in that content.  Sure, fanatics and carryovers from other games with competitive PvE won't be able to ignore it, so they should go deeper into the completely optional fractals and attune the everloving snot out of their couple ascended pieces (the way it TRULY makes a difference) to truly feel their epeen swell.

If an epeen swells in the fractals, does anybody hear?  Only the community that that attunement treadmill is built for.

Which makes it totally optional.

This isn't like a player pulling the wool over their own eyes in WoW and saying that epics aren't worth it so you're cool with bare minimum blue gear stats (thus massively gimping yourself), this is actually a completely optional, zero PvE competition environment, with almost a snail's power creep, and to be quite frank, even if it translates over into WvW, who cares?  They'll put ascended gear into that flow eventually as well!

Fractals are a corner of the game.  Yes, it's currently the only corner with ascended gear, and that's messed, but they have admitted that that needs to be fixed post haste, and it's still ONLY a corner.  A focused corner to please a focused crowd.  There are other corners, they are developed and will be further developed to work toward ascended gear inclusion.

If that's not acceptable, log out and come back when they've implemented it all... it won't cost you anything.

In the long run, yes, they can please everyone, by giving every subset of the gamer community its own corner.  They can fragment the community all they want, what they are actually doing then is BUILDING COMMUNITIES of like minded, like-interested players.

If there is a subset of players that can't stand that somewhere, someone with different interests has 1% better gear than them, they will never be happy, and should seek help.  GW2 is sticking close enough to its vision and they are ALLOWED TO CHANGE THEIR BLOODY MINDS if it comes to that.  Anyone who was online during Lost Shores saw how agile ArenaNet can be when they put their minds to it.  No, they are not entitled to your time or money if they change in a direction you don't like, or while the game is in a state you don't approve of, so don't log in.

As soon as they start grossly taking away the options they started with, the complaining will be far more validated.  Until then, it's a bunch of people wanting a contract written in blood ("On the record?" really?) that they'll never ever have to replace their armour.  This game isn't that game, that game is all but dead, this is a new game, and this incredibly glacial power creep (it's not even a creep, it's like a "power erosion of a granite cliff by a river flowing by it") is more than reasonable.

Jeebus, people. :P

#2076776 Ascended Items

Posted Hyper Hypno Hustler on 13 November 2012 - 03:20 PM

I don't like the idea of ascended items either, but some of you need to stop quoting Anet as your argument.  Anet telling a lie or changing their minds doesn't instantly make the items a bad idea.  The new gear is a bad idea because making a hard dungeon only to give players more powerful gear defeats the purpose.  Increasing monster damage by 300 and giving players armor that decreases damage by 200 is asinine; just increase damage by 100 and be done with it.  Using ascended gear to please people who need more progression is dumb because they'll just get the gear and stop playing again.  They're briefly amusing group A at the expense of annoying or enraging group B.  There is no indication that Anet has a logical reason to think group A vastly outnumbers group B.

This gear is going to eventually affect balance in pve and wvw.  Roughly 3 additional critical damage from each piece of ascended gear is going to be significant.  Some builds already put out some extremely high burst.  I don't think those builds need 25 more critical damage, and I'm not confident in Anet's ability to balance ever increasing stat growth.  Not all stats have been created equal, and it will only get worse and more obvious as better gear gets added.

View PostLordkrall, on 13 November 2012 - 03:03 PM, said:

But is that the ACTUAL stat difference or the gear stat difference?

Didn't people whine about exotics being 13(?) % better than Rare, and yet when all was said and done the actual difference to the character was only 4%

I've lost count of all the times 4% prevented defeat.  200 hp is all my ele needs to last that extra half second to activate water attunement, heal, remove conditions, hit mist form, dodge that last fatal blow, ride the lightning away or whatever.  The same thing applies to ascended gear.

#2045924 Why are people qqing because they are ignorant? (Thief)

Ok my question is stated above... Everybody are QQing because of thiefs being OP, or so they say... These poeple by all means are truthfully ignorant to this profession and do not even want  to find out more about it.

They have a severe lack of knowledge and instead of trying to roll a thief they cry about them being OP  and that it is a "noobkiller' class and so on.

I created this topic with the honest hope that some of you people (or idiots -> if you are one of those guys that I described) will take my arguments into consideration.

1st of all... If you take some builds from other players, sites and so on do not complain about you getting owned in PvP or even PvE. You have to understand that if you wish to play a class well, YOU have to CREATE a build for it that FITS your NECESSITIES and not just copy-paste  someone else's build.

2nd of all... Let me tell you something a thief is not that hard to kill AND every single problem you have with them (AoE, Elites, etc.) can be dealt with IF you have the proper knowledge. There are A LOT of ways to not get damamge (or at least BURST damamge; if by all means you are truthfully unskilled). A lot of players that I have played against have discovered quite unique ways to not let me hit them or to at least take some damage and rend my stealth useless.

3rd and last... Before crying like a stupd person on the forum when you don't even have the proper knowledge about something at least take an interest in that thing. DON'T EXPECT SOMEONE TO JUST COME WITH AN ANSWER FOR YOU, WHILE YOU SIT ON YOUR CHAIR CONFORTABLY AND DO NOTHING. And by the way for the arguments that might come such as : " I don't have enough time to get information." let me tell you something... I don't have time to get my legendary, but I don't write stupid topics that Legendaries take way too much time to get. NO! I deal with it. You deal with it too. Inform or accept your situation.

In GW1 everybody said that the Assassin sucks in JQ or FA, yet based on necessity I created a build that ruled there and won many games with it :). If someone tells you that it sucks or is a noob profession don't take it for granted. Go find a solution yourself and don't post it on sites on such, just make sure to try make everybody understand that you don't have to be the same as everybody, think freely, THINK!

Wow what a condescending rant of a post.  Epeen stroke much dude?  Granted I can beat some thieves some of the time on my toons but I quite frankly do not know of any other class in the game that can do what they can do.  One of their main styles makes them invuln,  so while spaming it theyre untouchable.  They put out a ridiculous amount of damage and are invuln 75% of the time they are attacking.   Also its an easy class to play,  so you dont even really have to be that good at one to own people.   My elementalist dreams of that kind of simplicity.

Sorry to burst your bubble knob but thieves need toning down.  Not gutted by any means.  But toned down.  One of three things Id be happy with:  1: Lose damage on Steal. 2:  Lose invuln on Death Blossom.  3  Lose traits that help a thief get his initiative back or severely tone them down.

Any one of those 3 happen and Id be ok with them.  Maybe.

PS. Edit:   Also forgot to to mention that if you saw a thief once in a while it wouldnt be a bad thing.  However they are literally everywhere and you know why?  Because they are a challenge to play?  Newp = Easy to play/Easy to pwn.

I enjoy the game but when they do stupid shit like this, it irritates the hell out of me.

Are their testing team monkeys?

As far as bugs go, some things can't be caught in testing phases. Testing something with a select few people on a select few machines, doesn't even begin to grasp the scope of releasing it to massive amounts of people, all at once, on a massive number of widely varied machines, with everyone trying to do the same god damned thing at once. If you think things like this are specific to GW2 or ArenaNet, you know very, very little about games and the concept of such things.

As for whether something is fun or not relating to the dungeon or Mad King Says, that's purely objective. Whether you enjoy it or not has absolutely nothing to do with the testing team of a game.

Fight to the death, tooth and nail.  Never give up, never surrender.
Even in the face of a huge zerg I'll wade into the middle swinging my little fists and bopping people on the noses as much as I can.

After i get downed i rip the plug from the wall as fast as i can. Then i run  to the pet store to buy a kitten. I slowly choke the life from its soft fury body till i feel superior enough to once again face off against player controlled pixels. If after the kitten has released his last whisper i still cant stomach the fear that is a Mesmer with 3 clones shooting  pink and blue ribbons at me i cry myself to sleep.

Or i just, take the death, rally at the closest WP, repair my shit, and ask where now in mumble.
To the OP stop being a bitch, kk thanks.

(no kittens or anything else cuddly was actually hurt during the making of this post. A pita officer sits behind me the whole time i play and i remain fully dressed as per my probation agreement.)
