#2353093 Changes to World Completion

Posted Kovalenko on 13 March 2015 - 05:16 PM

As someone who has gotten world completion twice, and even transferred servers to get world completion in WvW, this is another one of those "about time" updates. I honestly don't think Anet deserves any praise for the majority of these updates, like the whole wardrobe system... They just put in stuff that has been suggested and should've been fixed (yes, I say fixed) ages ago. This one in particular has been protested (on a minor level) basically a few months after launch.

On the bright side, I am very happy that new(-ish) players will now get to obtain their own gold star a lot more easily now! Before this, mappers would have to hog space in WvW, wait for a good matchup, or wait for a commander and zerg to cap enemy territories. No more of that!

#2228435 Mr Sparkles mini at PAX?

Rumor on official forum, not confirmed by dev.

If true, this combined with crappy B-day present will piss me off.  I hated the ultra-rare minis given at cons and as awards in GW1.

If Arenanet is going to give away free minis, give everyone a chance to get one.

Quite sad to see that the thread already turned into bashing the game and/or ArenaNet.
Why can't people simply accept that the game have survived a year (and done quite well) and move on if they don't like it?

Anyway, happy birthday GW2 and looking for many more to come.

Cool info and happy birthday Guild Wars 2!

P.s. in before people start using this info somehow to say the game is dying or dead.
Or bashing it to the ground with some other figure. Im just happy to be in game and having content to do in game.

Although the Fractals choice is the "grand choice," I actually ended up voting for Gnashblade simply for hunger royale.  I feel that the Kiel minigame already exists in the base game, and hunger royale is a unique gametype, hence me voting for southsun survival.

It doesn't look like there's any difference when it comes to the mini-games. Both candidates say they will have a weekly rotation of the same four.

Uhm, correct me if I'm wrong, but regardless of who is elected won't Southsun Survival be added to the rotation? https://www.guildwar...s/july-23-2013/ here, both candidates state "I’ll host a rotation of popular activities like Crab Toss and Southsun Survival."

Not sure why the Abaddon fractal supporters act like the people voting for Kiel don't care/know about the lore. I'm sorry guys but while Abaddon's fall is cool and all, we already know a good chunk about him, and in comparison to that we don't know all that much about what happened at the Thaumanova Reactor. I'm voting for Kiel, because I DO care about the lore, NEW lore, lore that could be tied to the elder dragons, lore about an actual place in the game that we can go to. Not to say that the fall of abaddon wouldn't give us any new information about what happened, but what we learn probably won't expand our understanding of an actual place in the game, or even potentially the elder dragons.

Secondly, it was stated that the losing fractal was unlikely to become a fractal, this doesn't mean that they won't give us the information in another way. Assuming Ellen wins, who's to say the Durmand Priory later on down the line won't discover a Margonite artifact of some sort that will let you re-live their final moments? Flip side if Evon wins, we could find a survivor of the reactor explosion who will tell us the details of what happened. The fabric of reality being torn, the survivors 'will never be the same', and seeing researchers limping around coughing from the chaos poisoning. The Thaumanova reactor isn't 'boring' compared to the fall of Abaddon by any means.

Plus if you take away the keys, waypoints, and fractals, I'd prefer to have Kiel influencing the living story than Evon. That's just personal preference, though.

A lot of assumptions being made on this thread.  And while it's not wrong to theorize why people vote one over the other, when you start judging people based on your assumption, it's a bit......uh........judgemental? lol

The fact is, I don't know who abaddon is.  I don't really do fractals.  And I don't really care about temporary rewards.......unless it helps me more quickly achieve something I'm working towards anyhow (WPs and BL keys do not).  That said, the only thing I really have to base my decision on is RP reasons.  And the fact is, we've had Keil through several Living Story chapters, and Evon is just some empty face floating above the auction house for the past 11 months.

Perhaps ANet needed to provide more of a means for people to campaign for their candidate, aside from some gem store banner that tells you very little.

Has Anet said if we fight Abaddon directly?
It's most likely going to be us fighting margonite, and being in the surrounding area during the Fall of Abaddon.

You guys act like you know what each fractal is going to be, and exactly how it's going to play out.

This is also pure speculation, but regardless of who wins, the second fractal will probably be added at some point, but not this year.

I don't think so. ArenaNet has stated a few times that they don't want to do that. They want the influence players have over this part of the game to have some impact. They're not even starting development on the fractal until the winner has been chosen.

Also, this interview is an interesting read in regards to the reactor fractal:

"Well, I can say that the reactor was the first prototype of the Inquest attempt to build something. Somewhat similar to what players find in the Crucible of Eternity later in the game. And the location where the Thaumanova Reactor was at one point in time exploded and destroyed what was once a research lab and turned, I would say, turned the world inside out where it occurred. I can't give away too much more than that. I would say that if people want to know more, they should vote for Ellen and find out. Either way, it's definitely something that ties more deeply into the lore of Guild Wars 2 than most would realize - "

#2218263 An Open Appeal - Obsidian Sanctum Kite

Posted Andemius on 10 July 2013 - 12:57 AM

Hey all. I'd like to ask the members of gw2guru forums not to gank their other servers in EB JP unless attacked first, while the first week or so of this kite achievement is going on.

You may (or may not) recall that I am not particularly in favor of the state of EB JP, arena camping and whatnot. Much of this has improved since it's been removed from wvw proper.

However, whether you attack people in the EB JP normally, or let them pass, I'd like to ask that everyone just lets everyone else get their achievement, and move on.

I've seen (in the course of getting my own) members of a single server camping our and fighting in the arena with no provocation from my own server or the other server we are matched against. It's never been a guild team, protecting their own members, or anyone attacking after being first attacked. This was very much the same for the Aetherblade Cache, and was in fact the very same server.

While it seems JP etiquette is almost non-existant, I'd ask those of you here to do the decent thing and let people pass to get their kite. The loot you get from killing guys in the JP is paltry compared to what you get for running with your zerg, or sniping.

Why don't you just give it try and find out for yourself, it doesn't cost you anything. That way you also won't have to rely on biased opinions (positive and negative).

Same company, and as such the priorities are not where people want them. NO ONE should be working on town clothes...ugly ones at that whenever you have much more pressing issues like say, events not working, anything halting progression, broken mechanics, broken skills, you know important game stuff...but hey if you do preface your posts, I bet you will hear less opinions, so have at it mate :D

Now if town clothes was allowed to be worn as armor, there could be a ton happier people with releases of new town clothes and stuff

Sorry, but this line of thinking makes no sense. I'm pretty sure the people designing town clothes don't have the same skill-set as those working on other things, hence why they are on the "design" team and not the "game bug" team. And I seriously doubt me prefacing the articles would prevent people from voicing their opinion. My comment was geared more toward the unnecessary whining and ranting.

Geez, maybe I should preface every post like this with how ArenaNet has different teams for different aspects of the game. :\ The people designing town clothes are not the same people responsible for bug fixing and other gameplay issues.

#2146590 CO transferring to Kaineng

Posted Falfyrel on 20 January 2013 - 06:14 AM

As a Kaineng player since launch, I have very mixed feelings about this mass wave of guild transfers.

One of the greatest things about the WvW on Kaineng was that we were the biggest underdog server in the game. We didn't fight to win: we fought to stand our ground as much as possible despite a virtually-nonexistent WvW population. Holding a supply camp was a BIG DEAL - capturing a tower was virtually unheard of. I still have fond memories of organizing a small raiding group of 4-5 people and flipping supply camps even as the other two factions controlled half of the map per side. And in many ways, this back-against-the-wall styled WvW was a heck of a lot of fun - frustrating since all your progress was ephemeral and you could never organize anyone enough to end up making a lasting effect. But then again, Kaineng's WvWing populace - what little of it there was - was unfathomably tenacious, bordering on masochistic. During a brief period where I transferred to Borlis Pass while it was in the bracket to get 100% WvW completion, I remember feeling nothing but respect for the Kaineng players I saw that did fight on.

Nowadays, the "old WvW" of Kaineng is beyond unrecognizable. We own 90-100% of the map at all times, there are hordes of coordinated guilds dominating everything in sight, enemy players are extremely difficult to find due to the teamstacking (and yes, it IS teamstacking, and no matter what the OP says this is a bandwagon)... It's nice being able to visit the jump puzzle whenever I want and get through without fear of enemy players, but more and more, I'm finding that it's nowhere near as fun as it used to be. There's extremely little satisfaction in knowing that your team is dominating the enemy so thoroughly that there's almost no fighting to be had, and even less in knowing that it was due to tons of teamstackers who got fed up with the higher tiers.

I've been considering transferring off the server onto some place like Sorrow's Furnace, and probably would have already had it not been for the social network I've built here. WvW just isn't fun anymore. There's no room to build a small raiding team to take out objectives because the dozens of commanders are spearheading things and oftentimes shouting out those that try to lead in their stead; there's nothing to raid since the commanders have already taken it; the extremely-outmatched feeling from before has been replaced with mindless zerging; and there's not even the satisfaction of "sticking it to the winning side" when you've already won your current tier matchup halfway through the week. It's nice winning for once, again; but I much preferred things the way they were, even if they were extremely unsuccessful.

Kaineng was special before because it was the underdog server. You didn't go to Kaineng to win, but it nonetheless offered a very genuine, unique WvW experience that many of the brave few on it chose because it wasn't the higher-tier gameplay. Who cares if we always lost and repair costs were through the roof?- that wasn't the point. The point was always defying the odds and attempting to succeed anyways.

Nowadays? Odds - they don't even exist. It's exactly what the old WvWing populace here wanted to escape from - dozens of high-profile commanders tossing orders around, mindless zerging, and the continually-growing assumption that you're only on the server to teamstack.

Please stop transferring to Kaineng.
