Posts I've Made

I finally had a quick dabble in the open beta with a Guardian Fighter. I liked that the conversations are keybound, the types of abilities and the tree system seems fine. Got surprisingly good FPS with this laptop, that's not even mid-range really. The alt-mouse system works. NPC "telegraphing" is much, much easier to identify than in GW2, which I also liked. I've grown to dislike GW2/NW type active blocking and dodging, but it wasn't that bad. By far and away the biggest reason I won't even consider playing it is that I lose control of my character for the duration of the animation every time I do an action, it's kittening infuriating. The way in which the game registers one action beyond the current is also frustrating. Hammering LMB/any action, then I want to move. Nope, first complete that one more action that I don't want. It's possible to block out of a current action, but that's beside the point. I acknowledge that it's a personal preference, and that there will be loads of people who will cherish or won't mind it, but for me it's an instant gamebreaker.

In Topic: When you use the word 'mob' in the context of gaming, what do YOU mean?

I use it to refer to a single hostile NPC (plural: mobs, i.e., "bunch of mobs") when it won't cause confusion. I know it's a misnomer, and have no problem using accurate terms if there's the need. "NPC" sounds naff and ambiguous, "hostile NPC" too clumsy and "monster" sounds equally strange when referring to things that have specific names (dragons, humanoids etc.).

In Topic: Is alcohol overrated?

From my personal point of view, overrated.

I've gotten tipsy or drunk countless times. Snuck booze to where it shouldn't be, passed out a couple of times, loss of memory once. I did the drinking thing, finally accepted that it's not for me and now I have a glass of sparkly once a year when it's easier than arguing the point. It has nothing to do with "values" or "health", to be honest. I don't enjoy the taste, effects or after-effects, it's optional, that's all there is to it.

Malt products can cause headache, clears (vodka) less likely. In my experience, being quite introverted by nature (not necessarily by choice), alcohol is a depressant. Rather than losing inhibitions I quieten down even more as I become aware of losing control in a public place, not to mention that the initial buzz is short, and so I spent the majority of the time drowsy more than anything. Good times.

That said, I don't hate drinking, or drinkers. Do it if you enjoy it, "im so pissed lol" doesn't work as an excuse for anything though.

Nearly 10 years of http://www.lfs.net/ and still playing. Took over two years before I chose to "take a break".

It would be far more complicated, and would require a separate code branch to be maintained at the very least. Go find some of the most popular private server projects (MANGoS, whatever for EQ, UO, blah) and start coding away to have some idea.
