For the rings, it will be much faster to get them via FotM than laurels so try that if you are not aversed to dungeons.
#2169593 I'm trying really hard to like this game

Furthermore, consider that most people playing this game have limited time. Myself as an example, each day after work I barely have time to complete some dailies and map a bit before logging off. I could swear that recently while completing an event with one other person, that gamer was trying to RP with me and I just acted dumb and didn't respond in kind because I had no time. So people may be unintentionally quiet because they just have enough on their plate at that time and more than enough stuff to do, let alone chat with someone.
Anyway, taking a step back for a moment and thinking about it, playing a video game is itself pretty antisocial behavior. If I wanted real social interaction, I'll call a friend and head out to the city for a drink. That's not my cup of tea but I'm sure you get my drift.
Bottomline is, if people want social interaction, do something about it and go out and look for it. Map chat to say an event is up and you're looking for help on it. Post not only once. Post it twice. Three times if you want. At least on the server where I currently reside, if any event is ever dead, I know where to find people. Pop by Divinity's Reach and you'll find individuals or little groups scattered around the place, doing chit-chat and RP. If it's social interaction you want (as far as a game is concerned), there's a big dose of it right there.
At the end of the day, people love things that are brand spanking new, and when the interest wears out they always move on to something else. It doesn't happen only with games. I've seen it happen with fashion, music and even eating places. In each of these instances, the product being discussed did not get worse. The music did not become 'less nice'. The eating place did not start serving up bad food. People simply got tired of it. The issue is with the individual, not the product.
Eventually when I quit GW2, which I will of course, it's because I grew tired of it. It's not that the game was bad.

No matter what they do there will always be people that don't like it.
I for one don't really care, I did not play to level, I leveled while I played, didn't even think about it most of the time.

I currently just give them $10/month because farming stuff is boring. I don't play these games to grind gold, and since my job involves market/pricing work I really don't feel like coming home to do more of it in a game. I sell my gems, take my 6-10g (depending on the day), and enjoy all the extra time I just bought to WvW or whatever.
I figure in 3-6 months I'll have my legendary, if I decide to craft it, without having to grind my face off for all the T6 mats. Now, I'll have PAID A-Net about $60 bucks for this convenience. In my opinion, it's worth it.
Edit: I don't mind this arrangement because it's a $5/mo savings over my other favorite MMO, and it's completely under my control when and if it happens. I don't expect a good product to be free, but I enjoy the fact that I can skip as many months as I want without any loss of features or function.
