In Topic: Wintersday impressions!

'Meh' is a good summary for me.

I can't really put my finger on it... I just remember having so much more fun with events in GW1 than in GW2... I certainly appreciate all the content they added for the event: the bell choir, PvP, jumping puzzles, etc, but there is just a dull feeling to all of it. I had put the game down for a little over a month because of school and because I was one of those "bored" people, but I came back just for Wintersday to try it out... My excitement to try it out was short lived. I tried everything; got all the Wintersday titles, have all the new minis, several of each skin, endless tonics, etc, etc, but I remember in GW1 just wanting more than just that, but here I have no desire to do any more.

I dunno, oh well. I'll keep coming back for events and such and poke my head around a little here and there just so I am up to date and have everything I can in the game (I'm one of those collectors/completionists) but that's really it.

got lucky and got one of the halloween skins or did you like play a lot?

Both-ish. I played efficiently, not necessarily a lot (maybe 25 hours so far from the start of event). I had about 20 keys saved from since the beginning of the game because I knew it would be worth it to save for something bigger. When I opened the chests I got about 10 more keys from them. Got (really) lucky with one skin that I sold for 30g right off the bat, and used the boosters for Mad King Chests, farmed the clock tower for ToT bags (I can do about 2/3 success rate) and farmed candy corn (for crafting and converting to ToT). I've totaled about 2.5k ToT bags (all farmed, none purchased) and sold the mats or used to craft weapons because I got a couple of the recipes from opening bags and chests. I can sell the Arachnophobia or The Mad Moon I have crafted, but I don't need more money and I think I may just level up a Ranger next to use the bow.

I've made about 100g from this event. So, yeah, I participated and reaped the benefits.

In Topic: Clock tower too difficult?

I dunno.. I struggled at first (took me about an hour to get it the first time) but I have turned the puzzle into a proficient farm for ToT bags. I complete around 2/3 attempts and each time it takes about 3 minutes (including the wait time) and I average 9 bags per run. I also loot the chest at the bottom of the drop when it's up which is about another 6 every 3 runs. I've got the puzzle down pretty good and I actually enjoy doing it every time =]. I can get a stack of ToT in about 1.5 hours and have farmed up about 2k bags so far with the clock tower.

So, no, it's not hard at all once you figure out the timing and strategy of it. The part I fail on is right after the pause in the beginning because of all the people and clutter, and that floating brick can get annoying, but after that it's pretty easy and I have ample time to cruise through it casually.

I don't understand how MF can be a 'placebo effect.' You either get better loot or you don't. It's pretty matter-of-fact; it's not like someone can just 'feel' like they're getting better items and suddenly, they're getting better items.

I can say that since getting MF gear, there has been a noticeable increase in better gear over time. Most people expect to have x increase as soon as they slap on their MF gear, but that's not really what happens. Having MF gear dynamically increases your chance for each drop to be magic... It's not a static "before, 3/100 items is going to magic, now it's going to be 1/10." No.

That said, people who just toss their gear or discredit the effect of MF after just a handful of runs aren't seeing the long-term advantage. And to the person who just threw away their MF gear after two 3-hour sessions....... smh.

There seems to be such a divide and so many people insist that MF doesn't do anything... Well, if you believe in it, keep it. If not, whatever.. Who cares? I suppose ANet just threw it in there to do nothing at all and mess with everyone's heads. Yeah, that sounds about right...
