#2077919 Is GW2 in trouble?

Posted Red_Falcon on 13 November 2012 - 11:41 PM

The company is far from stupid.
They wouldn't make a move if it didn't generate revenue to them.

Seriously guys, 4% stats. Lvl 80 food prolly gives more and it's not wvw-deciding. Lay back a bit and wait to see facts.
We all know Anet is terrible at explaining things.

Gear treadmill has come, and Anet said they'll release more tiers in future.
Deal with it or play something else, they're not going to change their minds.

Legendaries are cosmetic only. What worries people now is the start of stat grinding. Please try to keep up.

I assume you're saying that if it's cosmetic it's optional. That doesn't change the fact that the concept of gear grinding already exists in the game.

I for one am hopeful for several things:
1. New armor skins, Thief tired of looking like a flasher or stolen watch salesman.

2. "Complimentary" gear that works with current sets not needing to carry another set for each situation.

3. Your choice, you don't want to face Agony or Ascended grind, don't. I played GW1 for two+ years before infusing armor. I didn't need to because I didn't face Mursaat. It's your choice to go into the new "deep" dungeons.

4. New ways to get Legendary, quite frankly the current prices of precursors are insulting and nearly impossible to the average gamer who doesn't want to spend RL money in game.

5. Eventual Legendary Armor, dungeon armors (except CoF animation) are meh compared to Legendary Weapons.

We have seen Anet working toward the game being successful for the long run. I hope they have a long term plan and are not just shooting from the hip or responding to whiners.

And you created another thread because the other 7 about this very topic weren't good enough for you?

More value? What kind of cognitive dissonance is that and how how can I convince myself that gear treadmill=more content?

Because the new items are only a small part of all the things to be included in the patch -.-

It's weird how people can buy a game and feel they've completed it, but when the developers add more content for them to work towards, they feel like the money they spent on the game is being wasted.  If anything, you are getting more value.

Whatever, they'll spend more money on a new game and finish that in a few days, and repeat the process.  I'll be content to keep getting more and more value out of the money I spent on GW2.

#2046923 So the good foke at ArenaNet sent me two copies of Digital Deluxe.. What shou...

Posted Levelord on 27 October 2012 - 08:43 PM

Moral argument aside, I find the obvious hypocrisy of the fanboys astounding.

I've seen enough topics where Anet has made an obvious mistake that legitimately screws over customers and players, only to have the armies of fanboys march in to tell them to shut up and deal with it and that ArenaNet has no obligation to reimburse them.
Case in point the recent topics regarding the mystic forge giving out the wrong recipies for very expensive and time consuming items (Abyssal Scepter), and an older topic where someone was asking for a refund for an accidental extra order of the game.

Now we have a situation where Anet has made a mistake that they have done to themselves that screws themselves over, and the fanboys march in again and expect the customer to babysit Anet by calling in, mail the copy back (which costs money to the consumer), and essentially reimburse Anet for their own mistake?

Look, I don't mind getting into a heated discussion with the fans about what is good or bad with this game, but I really can't stand hypocrites.

What a fine outstanding example of the kind of person not to be!

Welcome to the real world. Everyone is an ass hole and only out for themselves. Even those that say they aren't, usually are. Only I don't hide it....

I sent them a message telling them the situation. As much as I wanted to take advantage of this, I figured I didn't pay for the second copy so its practically stealing :P

Thanks for the responses!

Actually no, it's not. THEY sent out two copies, you didn't physically break into their office and take one.
Don't be such a nancy about it. You got two copies, take advantage of that. A-net enjoy screweing people over it seems, so vise-versa is fine.

Is it wrong for people to have opinions? A few are mad about Cash-shop centered events, and I don't care if the fanboys hate them for it, I believe it's a legitiment concern... Following a game blindly doesn't make you a good player, offering criticism and showing concern for the game does.

What's wrong with those groups of people?

They're annoying as hell?

90% (made up number) don't speak English. If you try to communicate with them you get trolled in their home language. Frankly they're often obnoxious arrogant and unpleasant.

There are obviously exceptions though, not everyone is like that. But enough of them for me to understand why someone would move to a US server, at least when you get trolled there it's in a language you both understand.

Basically they're the EU equivelant of the Brazilian player base the US people hate with the XOXOXO crap.

#1943544 Jay Wilson working for ANET

Posted DarkHorseKnight on 18 September 2012 - 12:10 PM

OH and FYI on people who dont know Jay Wilson is the man primarily responsible for turning the Diablo franchise into a profit mongering train wreck that lost 70% of players in the first 3 months. He then when confronted with the criticism of the designer of Diablo 2 (you know the game that had 200k+ people playing it 10 years after it came out) his response was "F*uck that loser".

That said Arenanet could learn a thing or two about the current state of the trading post from the state of the Auction House on Diablo 3.

#1926519 How are you "supposed" to play the game?

Before anyone comments on the fact that I already finished so much content with "rushing." I'm a fast thinker and player, everything I do in life I do at a fast pace so taking everything slow just to get more time out of something is not in my nature. In fact, I think I have seen more of Tyria than most people here will in the next two months.
You've put how many hours into the game? and had how many out? If you enjoyed most of it then for $60 you got a good purchase. If you didn't enjoy it, why did you triple complete it? There's no sub. If you believed that the game would satisfy someone like you forever, well that was optimistic, personally I never did. If you enjoyed it the thing to do is stop playing and come back when they release more content. You're not paying a sub and they won't add further tiers of gear so it's *extremely* easy just to pick the game up later.

I'm not having a go. If you enjoyed most of that time though if you ask me, that makes GW2 a success by realistic/fair standards. Ie I paid a bit more than a normal AAA release, and got several hundred hours of enjoyment out. That's good.

People being rude to OP, knock it off please. Sounds like the game isn't for you OP, sorry it worked out that way as it did involve spending money, but if you're not enjoying anything, people offered a little advice that might help ie changing class and spec and weapons but if that doesn't work, then you didn't sound like you got as much fun for your buck, sorry to hear it. I think GW2 had a lot of really cool ideas and did a lot right but it didn't have everything and won't appeal to everyone. Plus a lot of the higher level (ie not really probed in BWEs) content felt a bit rough, I won't lie, the testing on some of the events was clearly awful with them severely and reliably bugged but I personally enjoyed it. However I can also see a few areas where it's either lacking or is actually much more grind than promised. Still the leveling style which seems to bore OP so much is what sold me on the game so I figure some of it is also just personal taste.

#1929226 New content to be announced soon.
