You DO realize GW2 is VASTLY larger in scope than GW1.  They have a MUCH larger staff.  You need to wrap your head around this concept.  GW1's cash shop could NOT sustain GW2.  period.  Their live team, as far as we've been told, is HUGE.  It is probably dramatically larger than GW1's ever was.

People are getting entirely too wrapped up in the semantics of the word "chance". If it was meant to be anything but a risk of nothing, or a "chance" of something, they'd have used a word like "guaranteed" or "very likely". Anyone that reads chance and spends money on the word "chance" frankly, made their own bed if they come up empty. It's like if someone says I can have a chance to meet my favorite singer if I wait in line all day, I don't get to bitch and moan about missing work or wasting time when I go and the doors close before I get to do it.

I feel bad for the people that lost money. It absolutely sucks to spend money and get nothing out of it. But if you took the word chance to mean anything but that, it's your own bad. See, there's a point that these people have already proven. ArenaNet more or less fixed the original issue. People were crying about how they had to buy the keys to have a "chance" at the rare drops (when they NEVER had to buy a damn thing, but anyway) so ArenaNet made it possible to have the chance to get the drops by using very easily obtained items. So now people are unable to throw inane words like "robbing" around, and they have switched to semantics of the word chance and how it's so unfair, blah blah blah. They're not going to just give the items away, if that's what people are gunning for.

Anyway, as I started, the point has been proven. ArenaNet could say there is a 20% chance to quiet the folks now demanding to know the odds. What happens then? Yup, the bitching about "BAHHHHH 20% is so unfair, it should be 90%". Then if they made it 90% chance of the drop, it'd be crying for 100%. Then if they did that, everyone would be like "WTF ARENANET NOW MY ITEM IS EVERYWHERE".... There's a reason they don't even begin to try to please everyone in the very vocal minority.

I feel this forum has turned into a place for players to come complain.  Most seem to complaint about things they wish were “given” to them.  They view themselves as a victim of some major conspiracy.  What happened to the days of using the forum constructively to help others and general game design?  I find it hard to use the general discussion sections due to the large number topics dedicated to moaning about one microscopic part of the game.  These topics keep getting shoved to the top of the list due to users trolling each other. This must stop.

I petition that we start a new section of the forum call “Complaint Corner” or “Cry Baby Corner”.  This is where all non-constructive trolling topics can be started or moved.  Anyone agree?

Jumping Puzzle
There's an event that spawns in the lowbie zones. Once it's completed, pumpkin icons pop up all over the zone. They'll take you to the Mad King's realm. Once there, talk to the charr on the pedestal and he'll port you to the clock tower jumping puzzle.

Hints

• You can just run onto the first cog wheel instead of jumping to it. That'll stop you from overshooting.
  
• Don't stop for chests if you're trying to complete the puzzle. (If you're quick enough, you can get them, or get them and then fail. They have TOT bags in them.)
  
• Once you get to the spot where there are no more beams to jump on, jump down. You'll end up on the cog with a chest. If you are ahead, you can open it, otherwise don't bother and concentrate on continuing!
  
• Once you've made it to the last staircase, wait until the clock tower breaks open. Jump inside!

Finishing is an achievement and you'll get BoA (Bind on Acquire) Mad King's Slippers, exotic armor.

Oh how surprising, another thread that says more or less the same thing that all 500000 other.

1) The even is not even fully released yet. There are FOUR parts we have seen ONE. That means the majority of the event is not live yet.
2) You don't even get the same items from crafting and from the Chest.

3) Nope, the only thing you got in GW1 was a free hat. Which, funnily enough you get here as well.

I've edited my original post to clarify my stance on this matter. Anyone confusing me for someone who feels entitled is wrong. I haven't spent a dime (real or virtual) on the skins in this event. If you feel you need to insult others in this thread, I will report you and you will have fun with your infractions. There is no place for flaming here, only intellectual discussion. Keep it clean. I have been the devil's advocate in this thread and some individuals are so immature that they have to throw insults from behind a monitor.

I am not a whiner or someone who has been cheated by ANet, but I have been nothing short of offended with how poorly they have handled the situation with the chests. If they even would have been real with the drop rate, this would have all been ok. But, no, they simply stated we have a chance. Their language, for anyone that can infer implied intent, implied that our odds were much greater. I thought they'd be cute little skins and be maybe 1:5 or something to that end. Nothing major, still a legitimate gamble and something you could actually get rewards for even if you only bought one section of keys. If they wanted this to be a grind, they should have made it something substantial. I mined 1000 candy corn yesterday. I am enjoying this event, but there is no place for what they did in Black Lion Chests. The community knows it and even though some fanboys may defend it, it does not change the fact that ANet did something wrong and they know they did something wrong. We will see how they fix this, but I doubt it will regain the loyalty of many that were put off by this entire incident.

The content of this event is excellent. Period.

I wish I could change the thread title "ANet's Handling of Black Lion Chests Has Been Horrible"  because my topic title misrepresents the true nature of this subject. The entirety of the Halloween event, save the chests, has been wonderful.

I thought a nice (least they could do) band-aid solution was to put the keys in the promotion discount section on sale for this event, but people were saying, "this is a business, suck it up champ they need money too!". Most of the stuff they have put there so far has been useless stuff. I mean their profit margin is likely close to 100% because they are just digital items so why not at least give players a small discount on something that they know would be sold like hot cakes during this event due to BL chests.

Okay I get your trying to help noobs not be utterly useless, and maybe these "mandatory" traits may help that somehow, but some of your mandatory traits are laughable.

First off, 15 in radiance is never mandatory. It is excellent for PvE farming and killing tons of trash mobs. For any hard content and dungeons it is useless compared to other traits/builds. By going 15 into radiance you severely limit your ability to hit a few major traits that provide synergy.

Think about this, the hardest things in PvE are dungeons. The hardest thing in dungeons are groups of 2-3 silver mobs and bosses. 15 in Radiance is wasted traits. It is good for farming and DEs, but those events are so easy it's hardly mandatory.

It is never mandatory to take traits at the same time which fight for your 3 skill slots (i.e. consecrations and shouts). In a shout build it is mandatory to take 20% shout cooldowns, in a consecration build it is mandatory to take targetable and length/cooldown traits, but it is never mandatory to take them at a same time. That just waters down your build.

I run a build for WvW and PvE that has neither 15 radiance or virtues, and I bet it is one of the most effective guardian builds after personally trying a large variety of builds, over the course of leveling 2x level 80 guardians, having completed almost every dungeon path in the game with daily guild/friend speed runs, and having 2 sets of exotic armor, and one of each type of weapon with specific stats and runes based on their purpose. Certain things are mandatory for certain builds, saying every guardian needs to have the mandatory traits you listed which are spread all over the place is just limiting builds that are actually very strong depending on your build/purpose.

Noobs who take "mandatory" traits will still be noobs, because they haven't really researched a build they are interested in, taken the time to learn it, or asked questions to become a better player. There are far better focused builds which do not take all of the mandatory things you listed.

Hey everyone, it has being more than a month since GW2 was released and alot of you are probably reached or about to reach L80. I thought this would be a time to release my endgame gearing guide that I wrote in the past week. Basically, if you are not sure what to do at L80 to get all exotics, then this might be a worth a read.

The guide is fairly lengthy and and to reduce the amount of vertical scrolling, I have enclosed most of the information in dropdown boxes. This allow you to skip the sections you don't want to read and jump onto the important bits right away. I will also include a TL:DR summary here.

Basic Information

· Item tiers (White (trash) < Blue (fine) < Green (masterwork) < Yellow (rare) < Orange (exotic) < Ascended (Red-pink) <Purple (legendary)

· Item affixes (Berserker, Rampager etc)

· Salvage everything that is L70+ for rare mats w/ discussions on salvage kit usage

· Map Completion your 60-70 and 70-80 zones for L70+ exotics

Trinkets & Backpieces

· List of masterwork, rare trinkets you can craft or buy from TP

· Mats you need for exotic trinkets and guide to getting Ascended ring

Armor

· Rare: What mats you need to get a full set crafted (1.5-2 gold for the full set)

· Exotics: Select sets based on your stats preference

· Exotics: Four ways to get full exotics: crafting (10-12 gold for full set), Dungeons (token grinds), WvW (Badges of Honor grind), or Karma (Orr Temple karma grind at 42k karma/piece)

Weapons

· Fine/Masterwork: Cursed Shore Karma vendors or WvW vendors

· Rare: WvW karma vendors or T3 cultural vendors if you got spare karma

· Rare: How to get them crafted w/ full mat list.

· Exotics: Full mat list for regular crafting, mat list for mystic forge crafting, you can also get them from dungeons and wvw

Runes/Sigils

· A list of most exotic runes/sigils in the game with methods on obtaining them (mat list for those that are crafted)

Food

· Peach tarts for 26% magic find and +60 power (<20 copper each)

· Onomnomberry stuff if you want 30% magic find

· Lotus Fries are a cheaper alternative if you just want 30% magic find (1/3 price of Onomnom stuff)
