i still dont understand what the problem is! Gambling is bad? Dont buy keys!!! Having costumes for sale is bad? Dont buy them!!!!

i bought some bag space, some bank tabs and the left overs i spent on keys a while ago. And in the future i will buy more keys because i have tons of chests. I will buy keys because i love this game and i dont mind spending some money in the cash store to support it. If i see some cool looking armor or something in the cash store then maybe ill throw some money at it too. I dont mind because im not being forced to pay 15 bucks a month to play this game.

You guys are labelling this as gambling with an evil undertone on it and thats not the case! Its no different from Mcdonalds saying you have a chance to win a free bigmac with every meal. Or starbucks or Tim hortons saying you have a 1 in 4 chance of winning a free coffee with every coffee purchase you make. Its really no different then a friggin raffle! you buy tickets with a "chance" of winning the prize. Would you feel entitled to be given that prize because you spent the most on raffle tickets? That doesnt make sense in that situation so it doesnt make sense in this situation either.
I love this game too...and will support Anet from buying items in the store or just buying gems to turn to gold..but I will never buy a key or spend any money on an Item that is RNG...not that gambling is bad (which I dont agree this is gambling) but I just want to know what Im buying....Put armors, clothes, ID'd Dyes and things of the sort on the Gem store and  I buy them up.....but not one cent on RNG.

Yet ANet survived just fine with their GW1 model where the cash shop was very minimal. Mmm...theres a difference between "needing money" which is fine, a cash shop is fine. But there is a line where its for cosmetics/fun and greed. ANet is clearly crossing that line, if you don't see it take off the rose-tinted glasses.

Responding to this, but also to all the other people who keep comparing GW1 and GW2's cash shop.

You DO realize GW2 is VASTLY larger in scope than GW1.  They have a MUCH larger staff.  You need to wrap your head around this concept.  GW1's cash shop could NOT sustain GW2.  period.  Their live team, as far as we've been told, is HUGE.  It is probably dramatically larger than GW1's ever was.

We've received significant amount of free content within the first 3 months.  And they already have hinted at similarly large content updates next month AND the month after that.  GW1 did not have a content schedule that was even in the same BALLPARK.

You can keep arguing on whether or not you think gambling with money has any place in an MMO, but you can't keep bringing GW1's shop up in this argument.

I'm going to repeat it one last time so people can understand;

Guild Wars 1's cash shop would not be able to sustain Guild Wars 2.

People are getting entirely too wrapped up in the semantics of the word "chance". If it was meant to be anything but a risk of nothing, or a "chance" of something, they'd have used a word like "guaranteed" or "very likely". Anyone that reads chance and spends money on the word "chance" frankly, made their own bed if they come up empty. It's like if someone says I can have a chance to meet my favorite singer if I wait in line all day, I don't get to bitch and moan about missing work or wasting time when I go and the doors close before I get to do it.

I feel bad for the people that lost money. It absolutely sucks to spend money and get nothing out of it. But if you took the word chance to mean anything but that, it's your own bad. See, there's a point that these people have already proven. ArenaNet more or less fixed the original issue. People were crying about how they had to buy the keys to have a "chance" at the rare drops (when they NEVER had to buy a damn thing, but anyway) so ArenaNet made it possible to have the chance to get the drops by using very easily obtained items. So now people are unable to throw inane words like "robbing" around, and they have switched to semantics of the word chance and how it's so unfair, blah blah blah. They're not going to just give the items away, if that's what people are gunning for.

Anyway, as I started, the point has been proven. ArenaNet could say there is a 20% chance to quiet the folks now demanding to know the odds. What happens then? Yup, the bitching about "BAHHHHH 20% is so unfair, it should be 90%". Then if they made it 90% chance of the drop, it'd be crying for 100%. Then if they did that, everyone would be like "WTF ARENANET NOW MY ITEM IS EVERYWHERE".... There's a reason they don't even begin to try to please everyone in the very vocal minority.

It has nothing to do with what is offered in the shop. It's all down their philosophy that has taken a 180. Never would you see a gambling item in GW1, especially one based around a short event!

#2041021 When did Guild Wars players turn in to such whiners?

Posted ChuyDog08 on 24 October 2012 - 11:10 PM

I feel this forum has turned into a place for players to come complain.  Most seem to complaint about things they wish were “given” to them.  They view themselves as a victim of some major conspiracy.  What happened to the days of using the forum constructively to help others and general game design?  I find it hard to use the general discussion sections due to the large number topics dedicated to moaning about one microscopic part of the game.  These topics keep getting shoved to the top of the list due to users trolling each other. This must stop.

I petition that we start a new section of the forum call “Complaint Corner” or “Cry Baby Corner”.  This is where all non-constructive trolling topics can be started or moved.  Anyone agree?

In this article I'll be going over all the information that the GW2 community has come across and the guides that I've found to be noteworthy for the Halloween event. If you've come across something that I haven't added, please let me know!

Costume & Weapon Skins
Spoiler

Plastic Fangs, Plastic Spiders, Nougats
There are quite a few days to get these ingredients: Mystic Forge Recipes The more of the ingredients you use, the more end-result receive from the Mystic Forge. Example: 1x Trick-or-Treat Bags, 26x Nougat Center, 26x Plastic Fangs, Master's Salvage Kit = 49x Chattering Skulls

Crafting Recipes
Here a list of all the new spooky recipes for each discipline.
Spoiler

Mystic Forge Recipes Jumping Puzzle
There's an event that spawns in the lowbie zones. Once it's completed, pumpkin icons pop up all over the zone. They'll take you to the Mad King's realm. Once there, talk to the charr on the pedestal and he'll port you to the clock tower jumping puzzle.

Hints
  • You can just run onto the first cog wheel instead of jumping to it. That'll stop you from overshooting.
  • Don't stop for chests if you're trying to complete the puzzle. (If you're quick enough, you can get them, or get them and then fail. They have TOT bags in them.)
  • Once you get to the spot where there are no more beams to jump on, jump down. You'll end up on the cog with a chest. If you are ahead, you can open it, otherwise don't bother and concentrate on continuing!
  • Once you've made it to the last staircase, wait until the clock tower breaks open. Jump inside!
Finishing is an achievement and you'll get BoA (Bind on Acquire) Mad King's Slippers, exotic armor.

Guides & Links
Here are some guides and other links to help you with the Halloween event. Quotes

“Our Halloween celebrations are in full swing, costume brawls are aplenty and the Shadow of the Mad King is falling across Tyria. Because we are as excited as you are, we will add another opportunity for you to get shiny Halloween goodies.

You will be glad to hear that we are adding recipes to the Mystic Forge that will allow you to throw stuff you get from the Black Lion Chests into it to get a special Halloween chest (no key needed for this one). These chests will include Halloween specific loot and give you a second chance to get one of the terrifying, rare Halloween skins. Here is the recipe we will add:

You need 1 Candy Corn, 6 Mystery Tonics, 1 Boost (any), 1 Boost (any) to get a Mad King Chest.

We hope you like this gruesome addition, we will let you know immediately when they will be in the game – enjoy the celebrations!” [Source]

As some of you noticed, we have published the time of the special event which will occur on Sunday, October the 28th at 12:00 PM Pacific Time/19:00 GMT.

On the holiday team, we are fully aware of the fact that not everyone can be logged into the game at specific time. We’re also aware that people live in different time zones, and those times can potentially fall on different calendar days. This is why each act is a phase, or a period of time, rather than a moment in time.

The one major exception is the beginning of Act 3, which is something that I think most people will want to be around to see. The choice of 12:00 PM Pacific Time/19:00 GMT on Sunday was a very informed, calculated decision. It was primarily based on the fact that it’s pretty much the peak of our weekly concurrency, which means it satisfies the highest possible percentage of our users. It also means that it’s the same calendar date whether you’re American or European.

For those of you wondering, having the event at separate times for separate zones is actually one of the worst options. Whatever happens is going to be on livestreams instantly and then on YouTube about five minutes later. At least this way, everyone has a chance to experience it in the game, without having it spoiled by the rapid availability of video on the Internet. [Source]

#2040643 ArenaNet the next Blizzard?

Oh how surprising, another thread that says more or less the same thing that all 500000 other.

1) The even is not even fully released yet. There are FOUR parts we have seen ONE. That means the majority of the event is not live yet.
2) You don't even get the same items from crafting and from the Chest.

3) Nope, the only thing you got in GW1 was a free hat. Which, funnily enough you get here as well.

I've edited my original post to clarify my stance on this matter. Anyone confusing me for someone who feels entitled is wrong. I haven't spent a dime (real or virtual) on the skins in this event. If you feel you need to insult others in this thread, I will report you and you will have fun with your infractions. There is no place for flaming here, only intellectual discussion. Keep it clean. I have been the devil's advocate in this thread and some individuals are so immature that they have to throw insults from behind a monitor.

I am not a whiner or someone who has been cheated by ANet, but I have been nothing short of offended with how poorly they have handled the situation with the chests. If they even would have been real with the drop rate, this would have all been ok. But, no, they simply stated we have a chance. Their language, for anyone that can infer implied intent, implied that our odds were much greater. I thought they'd be cute little skins and be maybe 1:5 or something to that end. Nothing major, still a legitimate gamble and something you could actually get rewards for even if you only bought one section of keys. If they wanted this to be a grind, they should have made it something substantial. I mined 1000 candy corn yesterday. I am enjoying this event, but there is no place for what they did in Black Lion Chests. The community knows it and even though some fanboys may defend it, it does not change the fact that ANet did something wrong and they know they did something wrong. We will see how they fix this, but I doubt it will regain the loyalty of many that were put off by this entire incident.

The content of this event is excellent. Period.

I wish I could change the thread title "ANet's Handling of Black Lion Chests Has Been Horrible"  because my topic title misrepresents the true nature of this subject. The entirety of the Halloween event, save the chests, has been wonderful.

I thought a nice (least they could do) band-aid solution was to put the keys in the promotion discount section on sale for this event, but people were saying, "this is a business, suck it up champ they need money too!". Most of the stuff they have put there so far has been useless stuff. I mean their profit margin is likely close to 100% because they are just digital items so why not at least give players a small discount on something that they know would be sold like hot cakes during this event due to BL chests.

I dont think thats a fair assumption. People that have no problem with what anet is doing wont run to the forums to give them praise. they will just enjoy the game. The people that complain are the first ones to run and post something.

A good example being when the patch went live last night. I wasnt surprised in the least bit that i had connection issues when the patch hit. I just waited patiently. But there were DOZENS of threads and posts complaining about it. Their facebook page had soooooo many people posting about it.
Dude I know... By now you would think these people who cry about that would understand that every MMO is like that. The connection issues during launch and this event have actually went way better than most I've ever played, but people complain for perfection.

Yes, we can expect consistency and honesty. Throughout the development of Guild Wars 2 Arenanet consistently informed us that Guild Wars 2 would honestly be a completely different game than Guild Wars.

Guess someone didn't get the memo...

#2006871 How to build a Guardian properly.

Posted Strife025 on 09 October 2012 - 08:55 PM

Okay I get your trying to help noobs not be utterly useless, and maybe these "mandatory" traits may help that somehow, but some of your mandatory traits are laughable.

First off, 15 in radiance is never mandatory. It is excellent for PvE farming and killing tons of trash mobs. For any hard content and dungeons it is useless compared to other traits/builds. By going 15 into radiance you severely limit your ability to hit a few major traits that provide synergy.

Think about this, the hardest things in PvE are dungeons. The hardest thing in dungeons are groups of 2-3 silver mobs and bosses. 15 in Radiance is wasted traits. It is good for farming and DEs, but those events are so easy it's hardly mandatory.

It is never mandatory to take traits at the same time which fight for your 3 skill slots (i.e. consecrations and shouts). In a shout build it is mandatory to take 20% shout cooldowns, in a consecration build it is mandatory to take targetable and length/cooldown traits, but it is never mandatory to take them at a same time. That just waters down your build.

I run a build for WvW and PvE that has neither 15 radiance or virtues, and I bet it is one of the most effective guardian builds after personally trying a large variety of builds, over the course of leveling 2x level 80 guardians, having completed almost every dungeon path in the game with daily guild/friend speed runs, and having 2 sets of exotic armor, and one of each type of weapon with specific stats and runes based on their purpose. Certain things are mandatory for certain builds, saying every guardian needs to have the mandatory traits you listed which are spread all over the place is just limiting builds that are actually very strong depending on your build/purpose.

Noobs who take "mandatory" traits will still be noobs, because they haven't really researched a build they are interested in, taken the time to learn it, or asked questions to become a better player. There are far better focused builds which do not take all of the mandatory things you listed.

#1996419 Gearing up at L80 - a semi comprehensive guide to endgame gearing

Hey everyone, it has being more than a month since GW2 was released and alot of you are probably reached or about to reach L80.
