Whole balancing issues come from the fact that they went with conquest mode as only PVP mode in this game. Bunker builds and Guardians being OP to the extreme are the direct results of Conquest mode, same is with Ele`s, same is with Mesmers being OP (at least until now, cannot say since I am not playing for a while) with best mobility in game, same was with Engi`s at one point. When winning means that you can stay alive longest on one one spot and not actually outplaying your opponent by just "outPVPing" him then you have a problem and we all know in which state is the game now due to this.

I would even go further and say that GW2 has problems that are even deeper then Conquest mode but that is discussion that would lead this thread really OT, so do not want to go into that.

This is a list I made long time ago and why I think WvW in this game is horrible:

1. Only two maps (Eternal Battlegrounds and three times copy/pasted borderlands)
2. Maps are too small and objectives are way too clumped up
3. Zergs win the game
4. No option to roam with smaller groups
5. No option to make a group bigger then five (whoever mentions Commanders and Squads needs to GTFO)
6. Invisible enemies
7. Zero skill needed, since all you do is spam AOE (check some videos from "top notch" WvW guilds, it is laughable)
8 Waaaaay too much AOE and it stacks
9. Bugs and exploits
10. No personal progression and no progression overall - WvW is just one big circle jerking festival with no endgame and no purpose
11. Scoring system
12. Downed system  means smaller groups can never win against zergs due to the fact that you will get outrevived
13. No enemy player names

And yet biggest problems with balancing are caused by conquest mode. Huge amount of problems are directly tied to this mode: Stale and boring gameplay, bunker builds, Mesmer (easiest class by far in any game ever to play) in every team, etc.

Solo que for Free's needs to be implemented and Custom Arena - Good Obs/Useful Score board.

Custom games are only good for scrims between best teams and sponsored tournaments (don`t really know who in their right mind would sponsor some GW2 tournament) . Seeing as so called best teams (or better to say what is left of PVP players in this game) play versus each other in payed tournaments already this feature would be useless. Obs mode would be a cool feature, but it would not help the game in any way at this moment.

This game needed ranking system from the start and obs mode to make it interesting, but now when most PVP players left nothing can get GW2 on it`s feet anymore.
