Project Blackstone

06 February 2013 - 11:44 PM

I first saw this over on Gamebreaker but I guess it's on Reddit too.

http://us.battle.net.../en/blackstone/

Password:  Y7_$0>0k_3<$m

So what do people think?   Is this connected to Blizzard's mysterious Project Titan?

Whatever it is, this is a rather entertaining way to build hype. When I logged on that password I was thinking, "So the best some future society can do is the same, lame, easy-to-hack, passwords we're using now?" but those hilarious emails show that the Dominion is run by less-than-competent thugs and douche-bags who have been successful because of their brutality.

In other words, they're the perfect villains.   And talk about the ultimate jerk boss and office hell! I'm looking forward to seeing Dr. Ayers arranging for Dr. Branamoor to get eaten by a mutant zerg-human hybrid.

And for the record, I think that's a hint where this is going.  World of Starcraft.  And they want a humanoid character for the zerg whose function is more than going all 'splody like the typical Infested Terran.   I think the zerg faction in WoS will be able to pick zerg-human hybrids along the lines of lesser versions of the Queen of Blades.

GW2 Tutorial Video on Youtube

08 November 2012 - 04:30 PM

I have seen this posted yet.

GW2 needs tutorials like this.   There are some elements of the game that are just not intuitive esp. for players from other MMOs.

This is a helpful first step.  It's particularly good how they emphasize the need to use dodge (Don't laugh, there's NOTHING in the game that explains the dodge mechanic save in the Heart of the Mists PvP lobby.  I've had friends play the game without ever knowing characters could dodge until I explained it to them).

It's also useful how dynamic events as the main way to see content is emphasized.   They really should have mentioned big DEs can show up on the mini-map.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing still needs to be in the game not on websites outside of it.   In-game information is worth more than all the Youtube vids, gamesite interviews, wiki articles, Twitter tweets, Facebook posts and every other form of out-of-game communication.

Not everyone who plays GW2 may use Twitter.  Not everyone who plays GW2 may check the wikis or forums.

Everyone who plays GW2 logs onto the game.   Information like what is in this tutorial needs to be presented there first and foremost.

Penny Arcade talks about GW2

19 September 2012 - 08:49 PM

Today's Penny Arcade relates Tycho's and Gabe's experiences playing Guild Wars 2.   Gabe had his account hacked and returned while Tycho seems to enjoying the game.

I want to see the ping-pong rematch between ArenaNet and Penny Arcade.   PA sounded like they would be after blood to make up for their defeat :)

ArenaNet's Pinterest Page

19 September 2012 - 06:21 PM

And I misspelled the bloody title!  ARGH.   Can a mod correct Pinterest for me?

I haven't seen a post mentioning ArenaNet's Pintrest page.   It has some pretty amusing pictures chosen by the ArenaNet staf.

There's a neat set of pics where the author of Ready Player One, Ernest Kline visited the Arenanet office with the prize for his novel's easter egg contest.

And this batch is just pure awesome.

Time Magazine TechLand GW2 interview

31 August 2012 - 04:11 PM

Interesting interview with Mike O'Brien.   He mentions the reasoning of turning off digital sales as well as the experience of the launch.
