Psh, you guys are too serious. I would aim for the shortbow, just so I can shoot bouncing rainbows, rainbow clouds, and rainbow explosions on my thief. It's too bad I don't have nor am planning on making a male Norn that can use a shortbow or else I'd get it for him.
IMO, legendaries should have better stats than exotics, and if you don't like the weapon skins then you can always transmute. Even if legendaries only gave me +10 extra power or whatever, I'd still farm for them, because every extra point counts. With how much time you spend getting them, it should be the way I described TO THE LETTER.
My thief is currently in the low 50's and I feel so powerful. I've done all 3 dungeons along the way and for AC and TA, I was the sole frontliner. With S/P, mixed in with caltrops (I swear by this skill), you can hold off a melee enemy gunning for the rest of your team or shut down a single target by being sort of a blind-bot. I haven't used D/P in dungeons but I can imagine that one can be of great use against some bosses by doing the powder -> heartseeker combo, thus allowing you to blind and land some heavy damage at the same time.
I have yet to mention the stealth field you have which provides a heal and life steal, the smoke wall, the field of crippling and bloodshed that is caltrops, an instant blind and stealth for anyone that's next to you, the pull off your teammate, the shadow step/immobilize that costs 3 init, nor the signet that passively provides precision and an instant condition cure and endurance restoration for those nearby.
I don't think he said thieves are fine but rather there is some merit to be found and instead of seeking a complete overhaul (which leads to an overbuff which leads to this damn cycle happening again), there should be specific and careful changes. As a matter of fact, he expressed discontent just on the last page.
But of course, you go to the extremes and anyone who doesn't 100% agree with you is wrong and delusional.
