Your opinion about PvP bans over missed Solo Tournaments

31 January 2014 - 08:49 AM

Well, this is the kind of 'ban' I am talking about. I actually wrote a thread about this in reddit, but I'm not going to lie - it went terrible. The backstory is that I accidentally failed to enter a few (2-3) solo tournaments and ended up receiving this debuff. People on reddit compared my case to 'me running people over with a car because I did not pay attention'. I'm not going to comment on that.

What I do want to comment on are these facts:
  • Solo Tournament games could last less than 10 minutes.
  • Solo Tournament games cannot be chained for consecutive games (unlike RA from GW1).
  • Losing one Solo Tournament game does not equal 2 days of lost personal time.
  • Having -1 person in your team does not guarantee a loss for your team (won a 4v5 game last night), and it doesn't mean that you will not gain glory or rewards.
  • Again, I really feel that this has to be stressed out - me not entering a few Solo Tournament games does not equal to two days of lost time for the team that I failed to join!
What's really interesting here, is that the random people I talked to about this in-game (in guild chat, map chat, skype chats) were shocked by this ban, saying that it was indeed too extreme and uncalled for. People on reddit, on the other hand, seemed to believe that I was some kind of an evil man, who really wanted to screw people over by not joining games and got off on it. In reality, I was simply alt-tabbed too often and failed to check the 'go now' timer frequently enough. Surely, I still believe that 2 days of a ban for something like this is crazy. Not even GW1 applied this kind of punishment. Not to mention that I couldn't even enter these games in the first place, and the game still counted them as if I entered them and stayed afk with my hero.

Furthermore, let me say that Solo Tournaments cannot be deemed as a serious mode. People that say 'go back to hotjoin' are hilarious. Solo Tournaments is anything, but serious. Two day bans because of it? That's really, really out of line. Solo Tournament is a free mode, meaning nobody loses anything, except a few minutes of their time. I did not cost other players their money. But their 20-40 minutes of time while playing 4v5 cost me about 49 hours.

As a player who has played GW series since their beginning, and who has invested more than 5k hours overall into these games day and night - this punishment system is bullshi*. Please excuse my language, but I am trying to see how that ban is reasonable, and I simply can't. I also wrote a ticked to Anet, only to be met with a 'we cannot service you at this time' auto-reply. They completely ignored me. Why should I continue supporting them? I've already invested so much time and money into this franchise.

New to engi. I noticed weird grenade behavior

06 July 2013 - 08:41 PM

Well, for some time I had pretty normal auto-attack with my grenades (on land as well as underwater). My auto-AoE option was turned off and I thought it was normal for the grenades to throw and aim themselves automatically. Then... for some reason my kit started showing me the AoE ring each time I tried to attack. I have no idea why, but before that I clearly remember having auto-attack on 1 and auto-aiming for all the rest. Am I going crazy?

A decent S/D build, has some flexibility

I was playing around with random builds after the last patch and found this to work pretty well in the new dungeon (Fractals). You will have a lot of endurance regeneration with it, allowing you to dodge a lot more than usual. Using this trait system will also allow you to switch your build to an auramancer with D/D for PvE roaming, if needed. If your team or situation requires a lot of support and maximum range attacks - switch to staff and modify your traits (for instance choose the staff AoE range trait instead of the scepter endurance regeneration trait).

For blast finishers you have Phoenix, Earthquake, Churning Eearth and Arcane Wave, if you choose to equip it. Feel free to modify your utility slots as it best suits your situation. For some reason Dragon's Tooth does not currently produce a blast finisher. The patch notes mentioned that the blast now correctly triggers at the spell location, not the player location, but when I cast it straight inside a ring of fire field - it doesn't produce a blast at all (This bug is confirmed, there is a thread about it the official forums - after it gets fixed you will have 4 blast finishers + Arcane Wave). Your earth and fire blast finishers will have an internal CD, so don't use the second one straight after your first one. It's better to switch attunements and use on the next  attunement cooldown refresh.

Your main source of DPS will derive from the fiery sword elite. It's not a bad elite to have at all, and with the power/crit increase it's even better. This will be very useful against multiple mobs, allowing you to inflict AoE cripple and great AoE damage. And as most of the sword's attacks crit - you will inflict AoE burning as well.

The healing choice was interesting, I've never really used Ether Renewal as my main healing spell before, but it's actually very awesome and I plan to keep using it from now on. The buff it received is considerable and it's easily felt in combat. Especially when you are being snared and need to heal and escape fast. Since you can cast it while moving it will be hard for anything to slow you down too much, as each tick will heal you and remove a condition. In combination with Cleansing fire and the Water 5 spell - you will hardly have any trouble with condition removal.

I don't claim this build to be the best or even really good, but I sure found it fun to play, now after the evasive arcana dodge fiesta is over. If you have any suggestions for improvement and/or constructive criticism - feel free to express it!

Glitchy graphics

02 September 2012 - 03:26 PM

Well, almost in every zone I enter - I stumble upon weird graphical glitches. For instance, I get the surface of certain textures to rapidly flash, it looks like the textures and lighting are quickly changing. When I stop moving the camera - they seize. When I start moving it again - they start flashing. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it something in my VGA?

Got a Radeon HD7850, which btw has no problems with the fps (I read other users with the same card have such issues).

Swiftness boon reduced when entering combat; anyone notice this?

30 August 2012 - 09:05 PM

Hello everyone. I just wanted to try and clear out some details about the swiftness buff. For a while I thought I was imagining things, but I am pretty sure that this is either a bug or a thing that I've somehow missed.

My first character is a Ranger, and often I find myself using the horn and Rampage as One just to get by in a rapid manner. At times I just don't feel like fighting all the creeps in between where I am and a point where I want to go, so I just run through. What I noticed, is that when I use the horn - I immediately notice a good change in speed, but as soon as I enter combat - it slows down a tiny bit. In no tooltip or infocard did I find any information about swiftness being reduced when entering combat, nothing says anything about this. Has anyone else noticed this? I should also mention that this is happening in PvE, I have not tested it in PvP. Actually, I haven't tested it thoroughly at all, but I plan to do this as soon as a friend is free to help me test it with a good old A/B scenario.

To be honest I was thinking about writing a whole chapter of my personal impressions and a collection of small, often annoying bugs or things that have not been thought through to the end. I rather wait until I have reached lv 80 and tested out the content which is available at that level, I dont' want to rush it. Yet it seems that Anet have rushed it, and not just lightly. I suppose this is to be expected from an event which includes launching a massive online game, but really - their hard work has just began getting harder.
