Been put off the vuln on shatter trait lately... disappointing when it drops off the boss after what feels like just a few seconds.

This happened in other games as well.. take wow for example since most people are familiar with it.
After your tank/healer it used to be that you took support classes who had lower dps than other classes. Once blizzard made it so that almost every raid setup had access to pretty much every buff; raid leaders took their tank/healer and then filled up on the top dps classes. The top guilds were running far too many mages, dks, rogues, spriests etc at various points in the balance cycle. Everyone, hardcore or casual had another way to make their runs more efficient - swap healers for dps once everybody was comfortable staying alive.
The question you need to ask your group as it is being built is "are we at risk of dying?". If yes, add a healer. If no, add another dps warrior. Except there are no healers in gw2, so you end up with 5 dps warriors even if you answered yes... which you shouldn't have done because after some practise the incoming damage in this game is designed to be avoidable.
Now the question turns to "if I were to trade one of my dps warriors for something... what is a good trade?". The only answers to that currently are guardians and mesmers, because they still deal respectable damage but bring a lot of support (multiple reflects, timewarp, boons, boon doubling, pulls etc). It's simply not worth trading one of your dps warriors for anything else.

If, on the other hand, you are running with guildmates and/or other people who know what they're doing, and you know they know what they're doing, you can work out any number of profession combinations that will be vastly more effective than just warrior zerging. You just don't see those people on GW2LFG, though, so the public conception gets skewed towards EVERYONE JUST WANTS WARRIORS.
People like strife do know what they're doing though, and have been doing it for months. There are a plethora of videos out there to prove this. If there was a better setup, they would have found it.
Personally I don't have that sort of time to invest in this game, so I'll believe whoever lays out the most logical argument backed up by in game footage. That'll be the DnT guys. And all the other great players doing the same thing. Maybe there is something slightly better, maybe there isn't. But I guarantee it won't be as easy to pull off as zerker warrior, and it won't be better by much more than a fraction.
