This build can also easily switch to a build that greatly aides allies without the need for a respec.
Just swap out  meditation mastery, focused mind, Monks focus, pure of heart, protective reviver, & battle presence.
Then get strength in numbers, retributive armor, altruistic healing, superior aria, empowering might & pure of voice. (this becomes insanely strong with a staff)

After that swap out the meditation utilities for shouts & the occasional ass needed consecration.

Then if you feel the need to provide even more support swap out the great sword for a hammer.


PS: I should note that rune of the traveler is great at the moment but arena.net has mentioned that they want to change tghe majority of the runes that provide boosts to any/all boons so it may not be worth the 10g+ per rune. (if you don't want to spend the gold then rune of speed is a good deal cheaper, provides the same speed boost as well as vitality.)

I but to answer your question, I'd say either the second or the third builds would work.

With the 0/30/25/15 build, you get access to stealth traits which will boots your D/P backstabs, etc. In fact, most D/P PvP builds take SOME traits in the SA line for that reason. So if you're wanting to pull off effective backstabs with D/P, go with this one.

But you can also opt for my route. I go the full glass-cannon 10/30/0/0/30. Why? 'Cause thief AA's hit hard. For both S/D and D/P, you can do consistent (read, NOT spike) damage with AA, and stay alive. Mobility in S/D, and BP with offhand pistol. What 30 points in Trickery gets you is access to a lot of initiative regen, and rewards mobility. You also turn Steal into a hard-hitting, boon-granting, dazing machine. And, as others have pointed out in the PvP sections here, Steal synergyzes well with D/P builds.

I can try and break down specifics if you have more questions. My experience with D/P is entirely limited to PvE, I confess, but the theory behind S/D builds is very similar to what I've read on sustained-damage D/P.

I think I will give the 10/30/0/0/30 a try this weekend. As for gears, would berserker armor & accessories still the best option, or should I explore a more balance set, such as mixing in Knights armor pieces (if survivability is a concern)? Any info on sigils / runes recommendation would be awesome too :)

S/D (a build I'm intimately familiar with in PvE, and in some WvW) affords unparalleled mobility, evasion, and harassment. It works with most trait allotments, but the most common are:

15/30/0/25/0 - Which, for any thief, is a really balanced loadout and makes the SB worth more than pure mobility.
0/30/25/15/0 - Which provides the stealth benefits toward Tactical Strike without sacrificing Feline Grace, but suffered in the recent patch.
10/30/0/0/30 - Which is, perhaps, the most powerful S/D build now that Revealed is longer. It makes the Sword's AA hit like a semi (+25% damage when Initiative is full), allows for a ton of porting mobility (you'll use Init solely for mobility and evasion), and makes Steal a formidable in-battle weapon (Mug, plus Fury, Swiftness, Might, Vigor, boon-strip, and Daze).

S/D is really no longer a viable stealth-daze-lock build, but can be very fun to play when you get your shadowstepping down. The Sword hits hard in general, and positioning takes the damage very, very high. It's a great skirmishing set for smaller encounters, harassing capture points, and picking off strays. The root on InfS (Sword #2) is great for locking down escapees, and for holding opponents in AoE's, etc. Played right, you'll be incredibly hard-to-hit, and do a noticeable amount of consistent damage.

However, if you want to run a 1v1-build, spike-damage-and-run, your D/D will be far better suited. I don't really know enough of D/D to speak to it.

I just finished gearing up my guardian for PvE content (just finished my glowing fractal capacitor) last week, I think I am going to pickup my thief alt again for some WvW action. I am also a S/D fan, but I want to try out the idea of having a 2nd set as D/P to be effective against certain classes (based on what I read from official forum). Which of your build would be be suitable if I want to do that?


I am not a thief expert so I'd appreciate any helpful info that you can offer, thanks in advance.

Btw, what sigil would you recommend for the long bow? Cant decide between fire, force or accuracy...
