In Topic: Whats the point of engi?

I play a grenade/bomb + elixir engineer and feel more powerful than any build of any other class.

I can...
Provide more damage for the group than anyone else -- I stack vuln rapidly on all enemies and stack might + other random boons on all allies. Plus my damage alone is very high and all aoe.
Survive damage well -- I have a lot of hp and boons (high uptime on regen and protection). I still go down if I make a stupid mistake, but it's extremely rare for me to die. Smoke bombs and flash grenades give aoe blind to control packs or save an ally.
Cure conditions extremely well -- for any condition heavy fights a quick trait swap gives me the ability to quickly remove conditions from my team.
Provide a myriad of control options -- Pistol/shield, grenades, bombs gives me 3 blinds, a daze/stun, 2 knockdowns, a chill, an immobilize/cripple, a projectile reflect... and supply drop gives me another aoe stun + net turret + heal packs for my team. Basically I always have an answer for any "oh shi---" moments.

So yeah, I've never felt like I was being carried by other classes through dungeons; usually it's the opposite. The only thing I don't like about the class is the amount of spam clicking it takes to use grenades well and the fact that grenades are so powerful I feel limited in my build choices.

In Topic: Need advice on inprogress PvE Bomb build

I felt the dps with a bomb heal build was lacking, and the healing is mediocre.

I'm using this build right now: http://www.guildhead...c7kGI70M7kGe70M

Basically, bombs + elixirs. You can stack a large amount of might on yourself and group with this. With your constant buffs on your group and quick vuln stacking on the enemies, you add a ton of damage to the group overall. My base crit chance is a bit low, but I always have fury up. Fire bomb gives a combo field fire that you can use your blast finishers (big bomb, mag shield, supply drop) in to stack even more might for your group.

You also have some easy swaps to make specific fights easier -- for example, condition heavy fights I swap out Potent Elixirs for Cleaning Formula 409 and for fights that just suck to be in melee range I swap out bombs for grenades and Short Fuse for Grenadier. Elixir R is pretty awesome for some fights as well.

I use a mix of valkyrie (pow, vit, crit damage) and knight (pow, pre, tou) gear and combined with all the buffs I get from elixirs, I pretty much never go down.

Just swapping to the med kit counts as using a heal, so yes you can proc this every 10s.

In Topic: Sticking with a class

Leveling is extremely boring in this game. The mobs outside of dungeons are so easy you don't even really need to use any skills at all and you get the majority of your skills at low level and they don't really change. At best you get minor shifts in gameplay from the traits, but that's it.

Unfortunately, the only way to know if you'll really end up liking a class is to run some dungeons and you can't even do that until level 30+.

Best advice I can give is pick the class that has your favorite armor and attack animations, because when it comes down to it there's not a whole lot of variation here.

In Topic: This game HAS roles.

18 September 2012 - 12:56 AM

After some experience with dungeons I can say this game has the following roles:

1. Player that would do quite a lot of damage, but spends most of the time downed or running back from waypoint.
2. Player that spends all his time trying to res or heal players in role #1 (while complaining loudly about such).
3. Player that dodges at the right times and beats the encounter for the players in the other roles.

Seriously, pretty much every dungeon fight boils down to being good at dodging or interrupting attacks. Success is far more about using the right abilities at the right time; your traits barely even matter.
