#2060294 Revealed - Redundant Thief mechanic

Posted Cloutt on 03 November 2012 - 10:59 PM

i dont understand why ppl think stealth is SO op? im not saying that it isnt a very powerful utility, im just trying to understand why ppl think its the most op-est op utility NOT just for a thief class, but in the whole game...

Our class is called a thief..so i think its pretty clear which of our skills should b the most useful and powerful set available to us.
Is trying to fight an invisible guy annoying? * yes, but does a thief steal ur tv while ur watching it? * no, he steals it without u knowing.
So does stealthing make everything that imbalanced? I dont think so..

Every class has some sort of aoe/cc yes? (plz correct me if im wrong) and if not at least u can swing ur sword around and not stand still like a chump. So if a thief goes in stealth do u just randomly place ur aoe 100ft from u? * no u simply place it on top of urself or cc and watch the thief un-cloak 5ft away from u looking all frustrated. There are so many ways to counter and even dps down a stealthed thief. A thief is not invincible when invisible, simply, invisible.

Yes, we can stay stealthed for a very long time if traited correctly, put 30 in shadows just to trait stealth, HiS, shadow refuge, blinding powder, shadow trap, smoke screen and HS thru and even 15 into trickery for preparedness and/or 20 into acro for quick recovery for more CnD...but what the hell are we sacrificing? muchmuch better traitlines, backstab hitting like bullcum cause of little to none of critical or deadly being traited, 30-60 CDs in all utilities, no condition removal, no stun break...u get the idea

Just an opinion of mine, but if u think about it, stealthing has already kind of been introduced to gw2 in a nerfed state. What i mean is it could have been brought to the game way more op than it did. And I think this revealed mechanic just does not suit a thief and what the meaning of a thief class is. Being forcibly unable to use the best skill under our belt is ridiculous. However, the 'idea' of the revealed mechanic is a great start and thus I agree with Minion. Maybe 2 secs of vulnerability like Minion mentioned? Or reduced speed for 'x' secs? Reduced out going dmg for 'x' secs?

every class has their own unique skill, this is ours, dont rip it apart to a point a thief is no longer a thief.

#1962773 Is magic find as a game mechanic even necessary?

Posted XPhiler on 24 September 2012 - 06:54 AM

Its an extra layer of strategy. People are too obsessed with having the best gear and the best stats, truth of the matter is in most encounters it really doesnt matter that much especially if you play your class well, you're not going to fail because you take a luck sigil instead of a damage sigil, you're not going to fail if you take food that increases your MF as opposed to giving you a boost against the monsters of the area. All you're doing is really increasing the time it will take you to kill mobs by a few seconds in return for better drops. Also its absolutely not just about the gold, better drops are very useful for crafting who can use them to farm ecto and get better rate of fine materials. They can also be a good source of sigils if people dont want to go into the crafting side of things and dont want to buy them off TP. They can also be obviously a good source of gold if you need that.

If you dont want to have anything to do with MF you can simply ignore it, why do people always need the game to make decision for them is beyond me!

#2060898 Mesmer's and thief's, too powerful?

to the players who complain about the thief and mesmer, what do you play and what build and amulet?
do you even got a counter planned in your build?

could it be you're just wearing cardboard armor and have no clue how to stop them? :P

edit: imo, it should be obligatory for complainers about another profession to share their build and playstyle.

It's taken me years and a lot of pain to get my head around it, but many people (both in RL situations and video games) do *not* want to put in the effort required to solve their problems. They just want to complain and hope baby jesus fixes them. The problem with this mindset in GW2 is that if you don't learn other classes and what it takes to play against them in and out, you won't win much against players that do. Almost every class (Thieves, Mesmers, Warriors especially) has abilities that scream "if you don't avoid me, you are probably going to lose this fight" and if you can't spot them and avoid them and don't want to learn, it's going to be frustrating.

These are the squishy bursty classes that have limited aoe damage and spec options. Can we stop crying about these kinds of classes in MMOs? Yeesh. This has been going on for ten years now, can people get over the hate over this archetype? You'd think veterans of the genre would understand how each archetype operates and how their weaknesses make up for their strengths, etc.

#2043833 Why are people qqing because they are ignorant? (Thief)

Posted rusticgamer on 26 October 2012 - 07:48 AM

Ok my question is stated above... Everybody are QQing because of thiefs being OP, or so they say... These poeple by all means are truthfully ignorant to this profession and do not even want  to find out more about it.

They have a severe lack of knowledge and instead of trying to roll a thief they cry about them being OP  and that it is a "noobkiller' class and so on.

I created this topic with the honest hope that some of you people (or idiots -> if you are one of those guys that I described) will take my arguments into consideration.

1st of all... If you take some builds from other players, sites and so on do not complain about you getting owned in PvP or even PvE. You have to understand that if you wish to play a class well, YOU have to CREATE a build for it that FITS your NECESSITIES and not just copy-paste  someone else's build.

2nd of all... Let me tell you something a thief is not that hard to kill AND every single problem you have with them (AoE, Elites, etc.) can be dealt with IF you have the proper knowledge. There are A LOT of ways to not get damamge (or at least BURST damamge; if by all means you are truthfully unskilled). A lot of players that I have played against have discovered quite unique ways to not let me hit them or to at least take some damage and rend my stealth useless.

3rd and last... Before crying like a stupd person on the forum when you don't even have the proper knowledge about something at least take an interest in that thing. DON'T EXPECT SOMEONE TO JUST COME WITH AN ANSWER FOR YOU, WHILE YOU SIT ON YOUR CHAIR CONFORTABLY AND DO NOTHING. And by the way for the arguments that might come such as : " I don't have enough time to get information." let me tell you something... I don't have time to get my legendary, but I don't write stupid topics that Legendaries take way too much time to get. NO! I deal with it. You deal with it too. Inform or accept your situation.

In GW1 everybody said that the Assassin sucks in JQ or FA, yet based on necessity I created a build that ruled there and won many games with it :). If someone tells you that it sucks or is a noob profession don't take it for granted. Go find a solution yourself and don't post it on sites on such, just make sure to try make everybody understand that you don't have to be the same as everybody, think freely, THINK!

All they need to do is nerf haste, assassin's signet, and stealing during casts and the noob qq will stop.

You could give thieves pillows for weapons and I'm sure someone would still ask for a nerf.

#2039279 A message to the people whining about thief class

3 seconds stealth is more than enough to get away with shortbow shadowsteps.A thief that doesn't want to be catched will not be catched. You might try to learn your class before posting such a thread...
First of all would apreciate it if you act like a normal being and show some respect, before saying things like learn your class, you have to know the person then you can give any harsh "point of view" no offense taken.
And secondly i totally agree about the mobility and the fact that is really easy to escape using short bow + speed, but still saying that the class is OP !! and can os "ANYTHING" is just too much for me to bear, so for me the 3 sec hide is enough to be used as offense or defense but its not op its the definition of a thief or assassin, a class that will stealth to roam/run away/ or get you off guard to kill you if your squishy of course, got try to kill any bunker build with a full glass canon thief they will laugh at you...
Moreover, when i say survivability, im takig in consideration the fact that you will hide and run away, in a hot join of course you ll be the beast reaper for all classes though you ll find rarely some decent players with balanced builds, on high lvl pvp on tournys run a glass canon go in a teamfight and enjoy dying from aoe skills =_=, or you ll be just focused down cause you are the easiest prey to kill in your team even if you hide...

Fun Fact= people QQing because thieves are mobiles + have stealth lol do you believe it ?... i mean like i dont know but ITS A THIEF/ASSASSIN CLASS, supposed to be FAST and take you OFF GARD and BURST you down if your squishy.

#2038110 Black Lion Chest Halloween R & D Thread

Posted RivenVII on 23 October 2012 - 07:42 PM

So I had a bit of a flame battle in /map last night in LA. Essentially the argument that: "If you don't want it, don't grind for it." is being used rampantly.

This is fundamentally wrong. Legendaries are a legitimate grind. This is HALLOWEEN. It is supposed to be a fun community oriented event. No one, save those people who do nothing but PvE and farm 8 hours a day can reliably afford these skins.

In case you missed it, what ANet did was inflate the economy so that gems trade for more gold. This combats gold sellers with a more competitive price from Dollars --> Gold but it makes the exchange for Gold --> Gems completely absurd. The problem with this is that it blew the economy up overnight. Any player who is not spending money on the game post-purchase is negatively impacted by this event because you can no longer buy gems with gold for any semblance of a reasonable amount.

If they really wanted these skins to be difficult to obtain, in a community event, mind you, they should have made it so you had to complete a certain amount of events or get "Halloween Tokens" which are awarded based on your participation in the actual event.

The real problem with them being in Black Lion Chests is that in 330 hours on my character, I have gotten 3 keys, ever. This is including the personal story. I've gotten one from a drop maybe one time. The amount of keys that you get in this game is probably a ratio of 1 key to 100 chests. The idea that not only are keys almost impossible to get in a drop, but because they are in the trading post, gem prices exploded because they make an insanely rare item put in a chest that is insanely hard to open. It's exponential, if you didn't realize.

These skins aren't account bound like EVERYTHING else you get from a chest. So people who are lucky enough to make it out of the flawed system, turn around and make the economy explode even more charging 40g for a skin driving 99% of the population who can't afford the skins to try and buy just enough gems to open a couple chests and pray that the astronomical odds work in their favor.

If anyone is going to argue that you can "Just roll a new character and get the key from the story quest." There is a serious problem. There should not be people having to grind outside of the Halloween event to get anything involved within the Halloween event. The ANet marketing team and their e-conomists seriously dropped the ball on this.

We, as a community, cannot let them think that this is ok. If the only argument that can be brought up is that if you want it, grind for it just like a legendary, or to take advantage of story quests by re-rolling characters in order to get keys that -never- drop otherwise, this is fundamentally wrong.

This is a community every reward/item should be available within the parameters of the event. I am incredibly disappointed by the way this marketing ploy was designed. This is a marketing issue, not a content issue, to be clear.

#2032977 Game Updates & Thief PvP

Posted realmisr on 21 October 2012 - 01:39 PM

I find myself always defending BS thieves every day. To sum it up:

1 - no we are not unavoidable, get some f*cking reactions and use your ccs/stun breakers.
2 - we don't do better than pistol whip builds. PW with haste both interupts you (which BS doesn't) and p/s has infiltrator's strike + black powder.
3 - we get to do our 10k+ combo once every 30-45 secs. It is a 1-shot deal...if we miss it then we reset. On top of that, we have to trait and gear to be glassy just to that combo...so it's a HUGE risk. I run an alternate build where there's more security to that combo but it's still risky at times.
4 - Everyone wants to nerf BS thieves yet they never want to talk about nerfing bunker guardians/engineers/necros whom pretty much never die unless they are mobbed, most likely by burst builds. It is no different for us sacrificing so much for high dmg, than for bunker builds to sacrifice for high defense. I can easily say that bunker builds are a LOT more OP than burst builds. If you are a true bunker and you get bursted down 1v1, then you are doing it wrong.

honeslty people just need to learn to play against it. timing dodges properly, not being full berserker etc

everyone needs to stop bitching about other classes and realise that they suck and need to make themselves play better

#2032153 Game Updates & Thief PvP

The only way to make That much damage is vs glass cannons light users, a lot of people run arround using glass cannon and dont expect to get bursted? ffs get some toughness and then go against a backstaper.

Besides of that, we as thief we can only do 1 thing, kill people, we are a class dedicated to Burst down targets, we have our Defense and Venom share builds but thats it. Every other single class can provide team help, buffs, blocks, hold points, etc We cant do any of those things as effective as the others and thats why we excell at killing, and that is the way it should be.

#1989077 Thief needs to be nerfed!

Posted Battou62 on 03 October 2012 - 02:56 PM

People will see what they want to see. I got accused of "222222222" the other day while running D/P, by a mesmer and a 100 blades warrior no less. I guess they didn't notice the black powder, backstab, or shadowshot I was using also. Whats a D/D thief supposed to do? Autoattack you to death? AOE you to death? Cloak and Dagger you to death? Dancing Dagger you to death?

#1987387 Thief needs to be nerfed!

Posted Sinn Longhole on 02 October 2012 - 08:18 PM

Everyone has tools that they can use to dodge, cc or retaliate.  Did you choose to dodge where CC would have been better?  Did you choose to attack when you should have dodged etc?  It's not rocket science.   It can be as simple as paper rock. HS spam is not OP at all considering how easy it is to get out of it.  Standing there and taking them all is just stupid and people deserve to get floored.  Sadly these are the threads that seem to keep popping up.
