#2208896 [Answered] Loved Gw, Is it worth getting GW2?

What i can say is that GW2 is amazing. When i go into any area, NPCs are always chatting and carrying on with their own lives(?). Things are always happening - events here, events there. Its nuts. It doesn't feel like a re-run of the same ole every time i log in and the views and graphics are just gorgeous.
I found that the learning curve is a bit high, but once you figure it out, it makes the game that much better.
Also, i haven't reached level 80 yet, so i can't give you an opnion on end game. There again, i'm not LFRing here - just looking for fun content on a regular basis and stuff like Southsun was great.
#2176179 I am astonished GW2 is still alive, what keeps you guys playing?

Who: You and friend or two (or three!).
What: Introductory guesting party!
When: Tuesday, January 29th starting at 5pm Pacific Standard Time [NA]/ 7pm GMT [EU]
Where: Metrica Province (Jade Quarry [NA]/Aurora Glade [EU])
Level an alt, tackle the jumping puzzle, shoot for map completion, or just hang back and play some Golem Chess with your friends and fellow forumites. Our introductory guesting party aims to fill zones to the brim with players looking to have a good time. If you can't make the start, don't worry about it! Just stop in whenever you can and soak in the action. Remember, you can only guest to two servers within a 24 hour period, so if you aren't on Jade Quarry, make sure you save a slot for the event.
Also, feel free to bring a friend and spread the word. We're looking to completely fill up at least one instance of Metrica Province, so we're going to need some help from all of you to make that possible. If this event has a solid turnaround, then this will no doubt become a regular thing in the future. This will be a great time to play with your friends, and even make some new ones.
Thanks, and I hope to see you all there!

#1994265 The Real Story of the Downfall of Titan Alliance
Posted

on 05 October 2012 - 05:57 AM
Eredon Terrace picked up to a very sad Titan Alliance. Eredon Terrace calmly assured him that most Indonesian devil cats grimace before mating, yet legless puppies usually surreptitiously turn red *after* mating. She had no idea what that meant; she was only concerned with distracting Titan Alliance. Why was Eredon Terrace trying to distract Titan Alliance? Because she had snuck out from Titan Alliance's with the Zergling only five days prior. It was a exotic little Zergling... how could she resist?
It didn't take long before Titan Alliance got back to the subject at hand: his Zergling. Eredon Terrace sneezed. Relunctantly, Eredon Terrace invited him over, assuring him they'd find the Zergling. Titan Alliance grabbed his refrigerator and disembarked immediately. After hanging up the phone, Eredon Terrace realized that she was in trouble. She had to find a place to hide the Zergling and she had to do it aggressively. She figured that if Titan Alliance took the hippie-pleasing hybrid vehicle, she had take at least six minutes before Titan Alliance would get there. But if he took the Bandwagon? Then Eredon Terrace would be exceedingly screwed.
Before she could come up with any reasonable ideas, Eredon Terrace was interrupted by four insensitive Miltias that were lured by her Zergling. Eredon Terrace grimaced; 'Not again', she thought. Feeling exasperated, she deftly reached for her dangerous oil-soaked rag and aggressively groped every last one of them. Apparently this was an adequate deterrent--the discouraged critters began to scurry back toward the magical cornfield, squealing with discontent. She exhaled with relief. That's when she heard the Bandwagon rolling up. It was Titan Alliance.
As he pulled up, he felt a sense of urgency. He had had to make an unscheduled stop at Wal-Mart to pick up a 12-pack of live hand grenades, so he knew he was running late. With a hasty leap, Titan Alliance was out of the Bandwagon and went wildly jaunting toward Eredon Terrace's front door. Meanwhile inside, Eredon Terrace was panicking. Not thinking, she tossed the Zergling into a box of dull pencils and then slid the box behind her George Foreman grill. Eredon Terrace was concerned but at least the Zergling was concealed. The doorbell rang.
'Come in,' Eredon Terrace flamboyantly purred. With a calculated push, Titan Alliance opened the door. 'Sorry for being late, but I was being chased by some selfish noble genius in a gas-guzzling, ecology-destroying, tankish SUV,' he lied. 'It's fine,' Eredon Terrace assured him. Titan Alliance took a seat tragically close to where Eredon Terrace had hidden the Zergling. Eredon Terrace turned red trying unsuccessfully to hide her nervousness. 'Uhh, can I get you anything?' she blurted. But Titan Alliance was distracted. Unaware of the bleakness of existence, Eredon Terrace noticed a annoying look on Titan Alliance's face. Titan Alliance slowly opened his mouth to speak.
'...What's that smell?'
Eredon Terrace felt a stabbing pain in her fingernail when Titan Alliance asked this. In a moment of disbelief, she realized that she had hidden the Zergling right by her oscillating fan. 'Wh-what? I don't smell anything..!' A lie. A selfish look started to form on Titan Alliance's face. He turned to notice a box that seemed clearly out of place. 'Th-th-those are just my grandma's dull pencils from when she used to have pet spotted wolf hamsters. She, uh...dropped 'em by here earlier'. Titan Alliance nodded with fake acknowledgement...then, before Eredon Terrace could react, Titan Alliance skillfully lunged toward the box and opened it. The Zergling was plainly in view.
Titan Alliance stared at Eredon Terrace for what what must've been eleven nanoseconds. Happy as a frickin' monkey, Eredon Terrace groped charismatically in Titan Alliance's direction, clearly desperate. Titan Alliance grabbed the Zergling and bolted for the door. It was locked. Eredon Terrace let out a electric chuckle. 'If only you hadn't been so protective of that thing, none of this would have happened, Titan Alliance,' she rebuked. Eredon Terrace always had been a little annoying, so Titan Alliance knew that reconciliation was not an option; he needed to escape before Eredon Terrace did something crazy, like... start chucking wolverines at her or something. A few unsatisfying minutes later, he gripped his Zergling tightly and made a dash toward the window, diving headlong through the glass panels.
Eredon Terrace looked on, blankly. 'What the hell? That seemed excessive. The other door was open, you know.' Silence from Titan Alliance. 'And to think, I varnished that window frame four days ago...it never ends!' Suddenly she felt a tinge of concern for Titan Alliance. 'Oh. You ..okay?' Still silence. Eredon Terrace walked over to the window and looked down. Titan Alliance was gone.
Just yonder, Titan Alliance was struggling to make his way through the fanstic pumpkin patch behind Eredon Terrace's place. Titan Alliance had severely hurt his prostate during the window incident, and was starting to lose strength. Another pack of feral Miltias suddenly appeared, having caught wind of the Zergling. One by one they latched on to Titan Alliance. Already weakened from his injury, Titan Alliance yielded to the furry onslaught and collapsed. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was a buzzing horde of Miltias running off with his Zergling.
About eleven hours later, Titan Alliance awoke, his ear throbbing. It was dark and Titan Alliance did not know where he was. Deep in the arid disease-infested jungle, Titan Alliance was scarcely lost. Happy as a frickin' monkey, he remembered that his Zergling was taken by the Miltias. But at that point, he was just thankful for his life. That's when, to his horror, a shrunken Miltia emerged from the lemur-infested moor. It was the alpha Miltia. Titan Alliance opened his mouth to scream but was cut short when the Miltia sunk its teeth into Titan Alliance's kidney. With a faint groan, the life escaped from Titan Alliance's lungs, but not before he realized that he was a failure.
Less than three miles away, Eredon Terrace was entombed by anguish over the loss of the Zergling. 'MY PRECIOUS!!' she cried, as she reached for a sharpened wolverine. With a calculated thrust, she buried it deeply into her taint. As the room began to fade to black, she thought about Titan Alliance... wishing she had found the courage to tell him that she loved him. But she would die alone that day. All that remained was the Zergling that had turned them against each other, ultimately causing their demise. And as the dew on melancholy sappling branches began to reflect the dawn's reddish glare, all that could be heard was the chilling cry of distant Miltias, desecrating all things sacred to virtuous men, and perpetuating an evil that would reign for centuries to come. Our heroes would've lived unhappily ever after, but they were too busy being dead. So, no one lived forever after, the end. :'(

GW2 does a great job to cater to this fact: you can do anything with your friend and it will never impair them in any ways, whereas other games don't allow all kind of players to play together.
Examples:
- you don't say no to a friend because "we already have a tank", everyone can fit your team.
- you don't decline teamplay because people are lower/higher level due to downscaling; a lvl 80 can tag along his lvl 1 friend without stealing his nodes, his loots or giving him exp impairments.
- you don't need to meet certain criterias to join your friends in pvp or wvw
- you're not afraid others will steal your dungeon loot
- you don't see other players during a quest or event as competitors as everyone gets their part of the reward
GW2 did away with all these limitations, discriminations, discrepancies etc.
This is why threads like "what class do I need to be in order to.." or "what level must I be to.." make my head spin.
What keeps me playing is the fact I can have fun with friends without the game forcing me to do X or to be an Y in order to have fun.
I know there are still many who can't get into this logic and still play one against the other and still abide to laws that aren't even there anymore, but the moment you can get your head around this is the moment you start realizing why GW2 is fun.

Please post any feedback if you like it. And ignore them if you don't
Many thanks to Konig Des Todes for copying my original post so I put the comics all on the first page!
Early notes
Edit 9/27/10 - Whoops, haven't tried posting images on the forum before. Let's try try *img* instead of attaching the file. Sorry, one more thing to add to the learning curve.
Edit 10/18/10 Hey, finally figured out how to remove that attachment, all the comics will be direct links now.
Edit 02/15/12 - Links changed to to my Deviant Art page since the original Imageshack ones are dropping.
Sept 27th 2010

(Typo edited thanks Tearsdale! I can't seem to remove the original attached file with the typo - oh well)
Konig Des Todes also suggested the comic images should be put behind spoiler tags so the first page will load quicker. I'll do that but leave the very first one and the newest one each week out.

Double comic
I didn't think the square format would look like that resized. Oh well.

One other note - With my main, art-making PC getting repaired this week and my in-laws coming to visit this weekend, it is very likely next week (Mar 28th) will skip a comic update. Really this time. Just wanted to warn everyone. I appreciate all the folks reading and enjoying the comic.

And I know that' s a different door than what Theo used back in #1. It's a big house. There's more than one entrance. Lion's Arch must have confusing architecture, they make dwellings out of wrecked boats for pete's sake.
Also I should warn everyone reading that it looks like the comic will go on a hiatus of a week (or possibly two) because of the Ambassador Video Contest announced by ArenaNet. http://www.guildwars.../video-contest/ I have a silly idea I really want to try to make.
May 9th, 2011
It looks like this week's comic will be delayed while I work on ArenaNet's 'Become a Guild Wars 2 Ambassador' video contest. Here are some images that will be used in the video. You might recognize the players

Work on this week's comic has gotten supplanted by the stuff I was doing on my contest entry. Apologies to everyone. I guess the video will probably be the update for this week:
May 16th, 2011
We'll return to our regularly scheduled plotline next week. I just wanted to get the last bits of inspiration from the video contest out. (That was a great community event ArenaNet!)
Originally I only meant to post the first comic (anyone else notice all the stretching NPCs do?) The second one came to mind so I thought I'd quickly drum it out. It helps keep Theo's character consistent.

Finished this part of the story just in time for sylvari week!
I'm pretty sure there are no werewolves in Tyria. I just thought it would be funny that even in a world filled with dragons and ghosts, people would still have stories about scary, mythical creatures that go bump in the night
I thought it would be particularly amusing for a race of shape-shifters to worry about the curse of lycanthropy. Losing the ability to control their shape-shifting might seem like a scary story to them.

First, could I please request that people look back at #39 (Aug 8th) and let me know if you cannot see the comic anymore. I switched the link from Imageshack to my Deviant Art page and I'd like to know if I can use that or if I need to keep uploading the comics to both. Thanks!
Now, back to the fun stuff. Sylvari week is over and Dynamic Events will never be the same!
I'd like to once more say thanks to Ree and Kristen and everyone at ArenaNet for such an AMAZING job with their race update. There were so much cool information, I've never been more interested in playing and learning more about the sylvari. All the details in the blogs really helped enormously when I went about giving Eddard an updated look.
The other result of the new race design is that I get to pull out the comic ideas I've had stashed away ever since we first heard about the plans for the re-design. Unfortunately I also get to move out of my apartment this month, but I'll try to get the comics out on schedule. Enjoy!

I realized that apart from the New Year's pic, this is the first time all the roommates have shown up together in the comic. It seems appropriate Eddard's re-design would be the reason for it.
I'm moving to a new apartment so there will be no comic update next weekend. My apologies to everyone! I hope I can get settled in my new place quickly enough that I won't miss two weeks in a row /crosses fingers. There's still more fun to be had with Eddard's new look

Wow, has it really been a year of doing this comic? How time flies!
Thank you to all the regular readers of the comic and everyone who has posted kind comments regarding it! The reaction Dynamic Events has gotten has made me very glad that I decided to start it a year ago. You folks are the reason I've been able to keep doing it for this long.
There is a one-year anniversary surprise in the works, but in the meantime here is this week's comic.

I've posted it over on the GWGuru Wintersday Workshop which seems to have become the contest for this year. http://www.guildwars...-t10497641.html
Not that I expect to win anything looking at the past examples of entries, I just needed to take a break and do a single, detailed picture for a change (no text balloons either!)

I'm going out of town this week for a conference and then flying out to see family for the holidays which means I'll probably have to end up working on this right up to the Jan 1st deadline. And that will cut out any work on the next comic.
My sincere apologies to all the Dynamic Event readers. After the holidays I should be able to get back on schedule. I'm looking forward to the New Year and continuing the story of Dynamic Events!
Edit - Jan 1st, 2012. Final colored version done!

This installment includes a little experiment I wanted to try. If it works this format could help me progress the story at slightly faster rate than the current snail's pace.
You'll need to click on it to expand it enough to read.
http://invincibleove...elude-278463962
Edit - It looks like my effort at formatting should have been more, shall we say horizontal. My apologies to everyone for needing to scroll down so much. You have to love experiments!
Please let me know what you think of the format. It won't be used regularly but it could help with some of the story elements I like to try in the comic.
Meanwhile, here is the regular comic. Last year I did a New Years party, I thought I do the morning after this year

I'm making some guesses in the lore regarding the policing of Lion's Arch. I have no idea if that's how it actually is, of course.
Also it looks like another business trip to New York this week so the next comic might get delayed. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Jan 30, 2012
It turns out my business trip last week was cancelled so I could work on the comic after all and I thought I’d try another experiment.
ArenaNet's recent announcement really drove home the fact that we have less than a year until we will be able to play the GW2! (Woohoo!)
This also made me face the fact that the game will likely be a serious drain on my time
So I thought I would try to doing it in B&W since I believe that will move the story along at a better pace and allow me to do the comics after GW2’s release. This week’s comics would have taken me three weeks to finish the old way and instead you get them in just one. I still plan to do occasional color comics as specials too.
If you want more details, I’ll be discussing it in this thread. Please let me know what you think. You readers are why I’ve kept doing these Dynamic Events comics for this long.

Update - Apologies to everyone, it looks like the next comics might be delayed as I work out some PC issues and upgrade to Windows 7. I hope that thing is better than Vista
February 27th, 2012
Last week inspired me to do this comic (That and listening to all the press beta info)
The B&W format is nice since at least I can get out something in spite of the Windows 7 upgrade that ate up my time.

I'm going to try something different again. I'd like see how it works to spread out posting the comics rather than all on Monday. I'm thinking of posting another one by Friday, I'll see how it works.
Meanwhile, more asura-ness.

Actually this plan didn't work as well as I had thought. I'll probably just go back to posting 1-3 comics on Sundays/Mondays.

I should warn everyone there's a good chance there won't be a comic next week. Three words. Beta. Weekend. Event.
I would like to be able to balance playing GW2 and keep doing the Dynamic Events comic, but this is the first open beta so I have to spend an absurd amount of time in it! Hope to see you in there!

In the meantime, I wanted to share this screenshot with everyone. I had to put it in this post because I can still edit this one.
Many thanks to Konig Des Todes for finding this NPC in the beta this weekend and letting me know!

Bleah, finally got the comic posts back in order. What a pain. I'm really not liking the new forum editor, it's not friendly to posting images.
It seems that there possibly may be variable appearances for NPCs on different servers (or it's just a beta bug).

The version of Phil I encountered looked rather like Theo only with a rather smarmy mustache so I just had to go with that. And I discovered moas are really fun to draw!

The roommates go out for some spring activities. I'll be honest, the last couple of comics have been giving me time to try to work out how to do the next part of the story that I'd like to do and I think I finally have a plan. Things can move on now I hope.
Naturally, next week the comic might be skipped because I have a business trip. Oh and there's that GW2 stress test on Monday, I'll be playing Mawfang again. (And maybe I've been getting distracted trying to get a few more HoM points)
Also there's now an emoticon limit on posts so I can never post them again here /sadface. People were probably getting tired of them anyway.

June 2nd 2012 update
UPDATE EDIT to the update - It looks like I'll be able to post the comic Tues/June 12th if all goes well. Sorry about the delay!
This month is turning out to be absurdly busy for me with going to work on the weekend, a move to a new apartment, a last minute business trip to Michigan that will eat another whole weekend and now the BWE.
If I posted a comic this week it would be two whole weeks before I could get another so I decided that I'll skip this week, post next week then skip the next. I figure this would be better than a large two-week gap. My apologies to all the Dynamic Events readers, but I thought I should let everyone know.

JUNE 25th UPDATE
I haven't been feeling well this weekend so the next comic will be delayed. Apologies to everyone. I will see about getting it updated as soon as possible.
Edit - okay I failed miserably getting the comic out. Sorry everyone, I'll get the next one out back on schedule!
July 2nd 2012
I'm still excited over hearing about the release date last week! Great to have a solid date for it and I'm planning my characters. And how I'm going to keep doing the comic while playing.
I'm also thinking about starting up a guild of Dynamic Event readers since we can belong to multiple guilds. Let me know what you think!

Thing got unexpectedly busy, my apologies everyone. The comic will be late this week if I get it done.
July 11th, 2012
I actually intended this to be two separate comics. This week has been so chaotic I already drew the second comic before I realized I needed to do the other first lol The next comic might get impacted from work, I'll have to see how it goes. Toll isn't done expousing his theories yet.

Yup. Late again. (It is being worked on so there should be one this week)
July 17th, 2010
Long exposition I'm afraid. And I decided to slightly alter Toll's design after seeing the cool asura character creation videos. I'll have to decide if I want to modify more than just his limbs.

Second verse, same as the first. Looks like the comic will be late again. I don't want to get behind by a whole week again, but we'll see what happens.
August 6th, 2012
This was the original idea behind the entire comic when I first thought of it (was it really two years ago?)
ArenaNet had said how cooperation between the races was a central theme to GW2 and the idea for Dynamic Events was simply taking that theme and applying it to one of those roommate reality shows I guess it's appropriate to finally do a comic explaining basic idea behind it right before the game starts.

August 13th, 2012
No comic this week, instead I made an entry for rue-bot's Great Charr Collaboration. Plus I thought Almme and Mawfang deserved a little time by themselves away from the rest of the cast.
They're both armed because I figured a charr picnic would likely involve shooting something to add to the basket. /grin

I couldn't get the comic up late-night on the 19th, but a new one should be up on the evening of the 20th.
The International Section with the translated comics and colored B&W comics has gotten eat by the forum for some reason. I've PM-ed Khajila and she is helping formulate a work-around.
Edit - Comic is up and the International Section is back!
Edit edit - By complete and utter coincidence, this comic happened to be posted right before the Stress Test that introduced the /dance emotes. Neat!

I'm usually apologetic about missing a comic update but not this week! /grin Headstart all the way! And the game is as fun I had hoped! Although my leveling is somewhat slow because I'm constantly side-tracked exploring and listening to NPC conversations but I'm loving it.
Actually I would like to do a quick GW2 art project that I had in mind, but that login screen is calling me with its siren song......
Sept 3rd, 2012
What? You know where I've been /grin. I think I've gotten the first rush out of my system, now begins the balancing act of playing and continue doing creative stuff (I hope!)
Sept 12th, 2012
Hi everyone, I finally pulled myself away from the game to do a design for a card I'm planning on printing and sending to ArenaNet as a way of saying thanks for making what is proving to be a very fun game.
And I had this silly idea that I just needed to draw lol
I still have things I'd like to do with Dynamic Events so I'll see about getting back on a comic producing schedule. As long as I can avoid that little GW2 icon on my desktop that keeps calling me.
Thank you card

Sept 24th, 2012I sent the card last week. Here's a nice blurry pic (which also shows why I never became a photographer)
Thank you card picture.

I haven't vanished! Well, I have but it was vanishing into Tyria. I finally managed to get another comic done but I realize that I'm going to need to do something different if I intend to keep telling the story of the characters while playing Guild Wars 2.
So let me introduce Dynamic Events Mk II! This new style may be quicker and allow me to keep sharing mis-adventures of the Dynamic Events cast while playing Guild Wars 2.
Please let me know what you think! You readers of the web-comic have been the main reason why I've kept doing it for this long.

Almme reminds everyone that she is a charr.
And here's another test with the new style. The 3D models allow perspective and background props which I never had time to do (as if I could even with the time). Unfortunately, the lines will probably never be really clean but I'm happy as long as the visual idea is conveyed.
As always, let me know what you think!

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I haven't done a comic in a while and this isn't exactly a comic but there are DE cast present.
I promised to do this pic for Aaron Demonsniper here on the GW2 forum. Aaron was kind enough to help me get a good chunk of HoM points for which I am grateful. I plan on coloring the pic and I'll post that here as well.

I do intend to have Dynamic Events comics return! (After I do my contribution to Perynne's Wintesrday calendar).
Dec 17th, 2012
Well, I'm not getting any better at avoiding playing GW2 rather than making comics but I was able to put together a contribution for Perynne's Wintersday Calendar!

Sometimes there are neat coincidences in life. I come back to finally post again on this tenacious, old thread and it's on the very same day the kind folks here at GW2Guru vote Dynamic Events as a winner in the GW2 Biggest Fan contest! Many thanks to everyone who voted and congratz to all the other winners!
I'm sorry if anyone was expecting a Dynamic Events comic. I'm doing something a little different now that I can make some time for creative stuff. I sort of wrote myself into a artistic corner with the Dynamic Events story but never fear, I will be returning to the story.
In the meantime, I always thought it would be fun to have Toll do a podcast. This will be one-shot jokes based on gameplay experiences in Guild Wars 2 and separate from the storyline of Dynamic Events. I'll show what I mean in the next one.
I'm still trying that art technique I've previously used. It utilizes 3D models and I'm hoping this will allow quicker turn around and more interesting (and far more accurate) use of perspective.
I expect people here will remember the source of the name for Toll's podcast?

Feb 22nd, 2013
This won't be the normal rate for updates on these comics I regret to say. I just needed to get this done before next Tuesday and the Living Story update. I won't have time this weekend so I did the grind to get it out *grin*
And I know the analogy to those Mastercard commercials is not correct, but it's Toll podcast and he doesn't know any better.

Give your eyes a rest from time to time. Look at something far in the distance for a minute. This relaxes the muscles around the eyes.
Remember to get up and walk around for a few minutes every hour or so to get your blood moving.
Stay hydrated and eat. I don't understand how people can even play being that thirsty or hungry, but it happens. At least keep a glass of water and some crackers at your desk if anything
Don't overdo the energy drinks and certainly don't mix them with alcohol. Uppers and downers don't like each other. You're playing a video game, not partying at a frat house.
If you are tired, sleep. Guild wars 2 will be there when you wake up. You'll be more effective when you're rested anyways.
I hope everyone has a great time tomorrow night (or whatever it will be in your timezone), please stay safe while you play and I'll see you all in game!
