#2208896 [Answered] Loved Gw, Is it worth getting GW2?

Posted Veji on 03 June 2013 - 04:31 PM

I didn't play GW1, because i was addicted to WoW at the time.  I wished i would have, but just too much going on.

What i can say is that GW2 is amazing.  When i go into any area, NPCs are always chatting and carrying on with their own lives(?).  Things are always happening - events here, events there.  Its nuts.  It doesn't feel like a re-run of the same ole every time i log in and the views and graphics are just gorgeous.

I found that the learning curve is a bit high, but once you figure it out, it makes the game that much better.

Also, i haven't reached level 80 yet, so i can't give you an opnion on end game.  There again, i'm not LFRing here - just looking for fun content on a regular basis and stuff like Southsun was great.

#2176179 I am astonished GW2 is still alive, what keeps you guys playing?

#2148517 Community Playdate: Metrica Province

Posted Neo Nugget on 22 January 2013 - 08:56 PM

Who: You and friend or two (or three!).
What: Introductory guesting party!
When: Tuesday, January 29th starting at 5pm Pacific Standard Time [NA]/ 7pm GMT [EU]
Where: Metrica Province (Jade Quarry [NA]/Aurora Glade [EU])

Level an alt, tackle the jumping puzzle, shoot for map completion, or just hang back and play some Golem Chess with your friends and fellow forumites. Our introductory guesting party aims to fill zones to the brim with players looking to have a good time. If you can't make the start, don't worry about it! Just stop in whenever you can and soak in the action. Remember, you can only guest to two servers within a 24 hour period, so if you aren't on Jade Quarry, make sure you save a slot for the event.

Also, feel free to bring a friend and spread the word. We're looking to completely fill up at least one instance of Metrica Province, so we're going to need some help from all of you to make that possible. If this event has a solid turnaround, then this will no doubt become a regular thing in the future. This will be a great time to play with your friends, and even make some new ones.

Thanks, and I hope to see you all there!

#1994265 The Real Story of the Downfall of Titan Alliance

Posted Sgt_GotABeard on 05 October 2012 - 05:57 AM

It all started when our overrated adventurer, Titan Alliance, woke up in a secret vineyard. It was the seventh time it had happened. Feeling exceedingly relieved, Titan Alliance backhanded a ninja star, thinking it would make him feel better (but as usual, it did not). A few unfulfilled decades later, he realized that his beloved Zergling was missing!  Immediately he called his redheaded stepchild of a 'friend', Eredon Terrace. Titan Alliance had known Eredon Terrace for (plus or minus) 200,000 years, the majority of which were flamboyant ones.  Eredon Terrace was unique. She was attractive though sometimes a little... insensitive. Titan Alliance called her anyway, for the situation was urgent.

Eredon Terrace picked up to a very sad Titan Alliance. Eredon Terrace calmly assured him that most Indonesian devil cats grimace before mating, yet legless puppies usually surreptitiously turn red *after* mating. She had no idea what that meant; she was only concerned with distracting Titan Alliance.  Why was Eredon Terrace trying to distract Titan Alliance?  Because she had snuck out from Titan Alliance's with the Zergling only five days prior.  It was a exotic little Zergling... how could she resist?

It didn't take long before Titan Alliance got back to the subject at hand: his Zergling. Eredon Terrace sneezed. Relunctantly, Eredon Terrace invited him over, assuring him they'd find the Zergling. Titan Alliance grabbed his refrigerator and disembarked immediately. After hanging up the phone, Eredon Terrace realized that she was in trouble. She had to find a place to hide the Zergling and she had to do it aggressively. She figured that if Titan Alliance took the hippie-pleasing hybrid vehicle, she had take at least six minutes before Titan Alliance would get there.  But if he took the Bandwagon?  Then Eredon Terrace would be exceedingly screwed.

Before she could come up with any reasonable ideas, Eredon Terrace was interrupted by four insensitive Miltias that were lured by her Zergling. Eredon Terrace grimaced; 'Not again', she thought. Feeling exasperated, she deftly reached for her dangerous oil-soaked rag and aggressively groped every last one of them. Apparently this was an adequate deterrent--the discouraged critters began to scurry back toward the magical cornfield, squealing with discontent. She exhaled with relief.  That's when she heard the Bandwagon rolling up.  It was Titan Alliance.

As he pulled up, he felt a sense of urgency. He had had to make an unscheduled stop at Wal-Mart to pick up a 12-pack of live hand grenades, so he knew he was running late.  With a hasty leap, Titan Alliance was out of the Bandwagon and went wildly jaunting toward Eredon Terrace's front door.  Meanwhile inside,  Eredon Terrace was panicking.  Not thinking, she tossed the Zergling into a box of dull pencils and then slid the box behind her George Foreman grill. Eredon Terrace was concerned but at least the Zergling was concealed.  The doorbell rang.

'Come in,' Eredon Terrace flamboyantly purred.  With a calculated push, Titan Alliance opened the door.  'Sorry for being late, but I was being chased by some selfish noble genius in a gas-guzzling, ecology-destroying, tankish SUV,' he lied.  'It's fine,' Eredon Terrace assured him. Titan Alliance took a seat tragically close to where Eredon Terrace had hidden the Zergling. Eredon Terrace turned red trying unsuccessfully to hide her nervousness.  'Uhh, can I get you anything?' she blurted.  But Titan Alliance was distracted. Unaware of the bleakness of existence, Eredon Terrace noticed a annoying look on Titan Alliance's face. Titan Alliance slowly opened his mouth to speak.

   '...What's that smell?'

Eredon Terrace felt a stabbing pain in her fingernail when Titan Alliance asked this.  In a moment of disbelief, she realized that she had hidden the Zergling right by her oscillating fan. 'Wh-what?  I don't smell anything..!'  A lie.  A selfish look started to form on Titan Alliance's face. He turned to notice a box that seemed clearly out of place. 'Th-th-those are just my grandma's dull pencils from when she used to have pet spotted wolf hamsters.  She, uh...dropped 'em by here earlier'. Titan Alliance nodded with fake acknowledgement...then, before Eredon Terrace could react, Titan Alliance skillfully lunged toward the box and opened it.  The Zergling was plainly in view.

Titan Alliance stared at Eredon Terrace for what what must've been eleven nanoseconds. Happy as a frickin' monkey, Eredon Terrace groped charismatically in Titan Alliance's direction, clearly desperate. Titan Alliance grabbed the Zergling and bolted for the door.  It was locked. Eredon Terrace let out a electric chuckle. 'If only you hadn't been so protective of that thing, none of this would have happened, Titan Alliance,' she rebuked. Eredon Terrace always had been a little annoying, so Titan Alliance knew that reconciliation was not an option; he needed to escape before Eredon Terrace did something crazy, like... start chucking wolverines at her or something. A few unsatisfying minutes later, he gripped his Zergling tightly and made a dash toward the window, diving headlong through the glass panels.

Eredon Terrace looked on, blankly. 'What the hell?  That seemed excessive.  The other door was open, you know.' Silence from Titan Alliance. 'And to think, I varnished that window frame four days ago...it never ends!' Suddenly she felt a tinge of concern for Titan Alliance. 'Oh.  You ..okay?' Still silence. Eredon Terrace walked over to the window and looked down. Titan Alliance was gone.

Just yonder, Titan Alliance was struggling to make his way through the fanstic pumpkin patch behind Eredon Terrace's place. Titan Alliance had severely hurt his prostate during the window incident, and was starting to lose strength.  Another pack of feral Miltias suddenly appeared, having caught wind of the Zergling.  One by one they latched on to Titan Alliance.  Already weakened from his injury, Titan Alliance yielded to the furry onslaught and collapsed.  The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was a buzzing horde of Miltias running off with his Zergling.

About eleven hours later, Titan Alliance awoke, his ear throbbing.  It was dark and Titan Alliance did not know where he was.  Deep in the arid disease-infested jungle, Titan Alliance was scarcely lost. Happy as a frickin' monkey, he remembered that his Zergling was taken by the Miltias. But at that point, he was just thankful for his life.  That's when, to his horror, a shrunken Miltia emerged from the lemur-infested moor.  It was the alpha Miltia. Titan Alliance opened his mouth to scream but was cut short when the Miltia sunk its teeth into Titan Alliance's kidney. With a faint groan, the life escaped from Titan Alliance's lungs, but not before he realized that he was a failure.

Less than three miles away, Eredon Terrace was entombed by anguish over the loss of the Zergling.  'MY PRECIOUS!!' she cried, as she reached for a sharpened wolverine.  With a calculated thrust, she buried it deeply into her taint.  As the room began to fade to black, she thought about Titan Alliance... wishing she had found the courage to tell him that she loved him.  But she would die alone that day.  All that remained was the Zergling that had turned them against each other, ultimately causing their demise.  And as the dew on melancholy sappling branches began to reflect the dawn's reddish glare, all that could be heard was the chilling cry of distant Miltias, desecrating all things sacred to virtuous men, and perpetuating an evil that would reign for centuries to come.  Our heroes would've lived unhappily ever after, but they were too busy being dead.  So, no one lived forever after, the end. :'(

#1938694 What keeps you going?

Posted Red_Falcon on 17 September 2012 - 12:56 AM

Ultimately, the longevity of a MMO is due to activities you do with and/or against other players.
GW2 does a great job to cater to this fact: you can do anything with your friend and it will never impair them in any ways, whereas other games don't allow all kind of players to play together.

Examples:
- you don't say no to a friend because "we already have a tank", everyone can fit your team.
- you don't decline teamplay because people are lower/higher level due to downscaling; a lvl 80 can tag along his lvl 1 friend without stealing his nodes, his loots or giving him exp impairments.
- you don't need to meet certain criterias to join your friends in pvp or wvw
- you're not afraid others will steal your dungeon loot
- you don't see other players during a quest or event as competitors as everyone gets their part of the reward

GW2 did away with all these limitations, discriminations, discrepancies etc.
This is why threads like "what class do I need to be in order to.." or "what level must I be to.." make my head spin.

What keeps me playing is the fact I can have fun with friends without the game forcing me to do X or to be an Y in order to have fun.

I know there are still many who can't get into this logic and still play one against the other and still abide to laws that aren't even there anymore, but the moment you can get your head around this is the moment you start realizing why GW2 is fun.

Many thanks to Konig Des Todes for copying my original post so I put the comics all on the first page!

Konig Des Todes also suggested the comic images should be put behind spoiler tags so the first page will load quicker.  I'll do that but leave the very first one and the newest one each week out.

Wow, has it really been a year of doing this comic?   How time flies!

Thank you to all the regular readers of the comic and everyone who has posted kind comments regarding it!     The reaction Dynamic Events has gotten has made me very glad that I decided to start it a year ago.  You folks are the reason I've been able to keep doing it for this long.

There is a one-year anniversary surprise in the works, but in the meantime here is this week's comic.

This won't be the normal rate for updates on these comics I regret to say. I just needed to get this done before next Tuesday and the Living Story update. I won't have time this weekend so I did the grind to get it out *grin*

And I know the analogy to those Mastercard commercials is not correct, but it's Toll podcast and he doesn't know any better.

With just about 24 hours to go, were all very excited for Guild Wars 2 to launch. That being said, the last thing any of us want to see is a new report about someone collapsing after a 36 hour gaming binge.

Give your eyes a rest from time to time. Look at something far in the distance for a minute. This relaxes the muscles around the eyes.

Remember to get up and walk around for a few minutes every hour or so to get your blood moving.

Stay hydrated and eat. I don't understand how people can even play being that thirsty or hungry, but it happens. At least keep a glass of water and some crackers at your desk if anything

Don't overdo the energy drinks and certainly don't mix them with alcohol. Uppers and downers don't like each other. You're playing a video game, not partying at a frat house.

If you are tired, sleep. Guild wars 2 will be there when you wake up. You'll be more effective when you're rested anyways.

I hope everyone has a great time tomorrow night (or whatever it will be in your timezone), please stay safe while you play and I'll see you all in game!
