Oh wait, I thought the expander put the collection size to 1000 for 800 gems. But it goes in 250 steps, so 2400 gems for the complete thing?

Holy ♥♥♥♥! Greedy pieces of ****!

Seriously this is one thing that should have been part of the game in the beginning. I recall in Guild Wars one that 250 was the limit the game could handle for a stack and that the developers were unable to change this. I had hoped in GW2 this would change but I guess their greed got the better of them. If they are going this far then they may as well stop selling boxes and change to a complete free to play model.

Playable centaurs? Total nightmare for gear design, animations and overall flow of combat with their huge and clunky models. Not a single chance of it ever becoming playable, I'm afraid.

Kodans, on the other hand, can be just copy pasted from norn sceletal animations with some npc animations slapped on top of it.

Even so I think they can do it. I had always wanted a playable centaur ever since having Zhed as a hero in Gw1.

How far out there?

Harlan Ellison wrote a bunch of short stories/novellas that are in some cases utter mind trips (and I do mean that kind of trips) that I recommend anyone to take. Basically none of them give that cozy feeling of recognizing character that you say you want, but that's more of the nature of short stories. They do go into philosophical questions, sometimes way more than you realize when you first read them, so that weeks or months afterwards you'll suddenly find yourself thinking back going "ahaaa, wait a minute..."
They exist in collections (usually with weird names), I'd recommend The Beast that Shouted Love at the Heart of the World, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, and Paingod and Other Delusions.

I have to agree with raspberry, short stories manage to tie various philosophies and viewpoints very well. It is also a great way to be introduced to the author before you attempt to read any of their longer works. Issac Asimov and Arthur C Carke have some shorts out there and Asimov is the one that came up with the law of robotics which creates interesting stories and views around these laws. I myself love urban fantasies and one really excellent Author is Charles De lint. He explores human relationships and relationships with the more magical beings in his works. Dreams Underfoot is a good place to start.  There are some classics such as 1984, Fahrenheit 451 and a brave new world that explore societal views and philosophies that may be of interest to you.

In Topic: After playing GW2, I decided I'd prefer a sub fee over any cash shop

I would drop GW 2 if it went to a monthly fee. And I garuntee many others would do the same. Looke at the secret World. Good idea lots of content being added, yet the user base is 200000 people. Not a good start for a monthly sub game. Adding a monthly fee would not elimenate a cash shop either since the game is not play to win.
