Well the next book is by Ree Soesbee so it should be of a more consistent quality. It's a shame since I felt Edge of Destiny started out rather strong (especially Eir's intro).
Airships use Asura weaponry. Potentially, they might also use magic to some extent since Airships aren't exactly durable in combat. Also there is at least one Airship that appears to be based on Asura designs.
