I have a similar problem, except I was able to run Guild Wars 2 on medium settings and was able to go into hundred player WvW fights lag free. It seems strange that they won't even let us try to play even with lag.

I think there should be some minipets given from achievements and on characters birthdays, but otherwise minipets in the store are fine with me, they are cosmetic. Same with town clothing.
