#2166222 Should the cap have been level 20?

Posted Shroomhead Fred on 18 February 2013 - 10:07 PM

Seems like the real question here is did you prefer leveling in GW1 over GW2, which I'd answer yes.

Sure it didn't take long to hit max level 20 (arguably doesn't take long in GW2 either), but the fun for me started when I began hunting down the skills I wanted to equip on my toon, there were some good times there.  The range of builds also kept it more interesting and I gotta say the story was miles better.  I remember GW1 being more challenging than what I've faced in GW2 as well, which helped keep the excitement going, but it's been so long since I played that game, my memory is a little hazy.  One great feature that still sticks out though is when you had the ability to choose a 2nd profession and could make hybrid builds, so many possibilities which kept it fresh.

GW2 leveling was fun the first time I ran it, but it has been such a drag trying to level alts.  I can only bring myself to do it a single level at a time, then i go back to playing my main.

I never really gave it too much thought, but if they remade GW1, with GW2's combat and graphics, that would be perfect for me.

Anyway it's too late now, we're stuck with what we got, it's not going to change.  In fact, we'll be getting additional levels in the future.  :0

#2161327 Cultural Wear- Profession Based

Posted Yumikiko on 09 February 2013 - 04:08 PM

Hey guys,

I understand that this topic might not be something of vital importance to most people, but to some players, an important aspect of any MMO is the fashion of the game.

We all know that the cultural wear is not only pricey (overly priced in my opinion) I can't' shake the fact that my Engineer is running around with blades on my boots, mesh tights, and under boob  This does not fit with an engineer style since well you know they carry guns and explosives. (I do like the under boob, just  sayin')

My point is, if we strive to buy this overly priced skin, why not make it profession based to better fit our characters while providing some uniqueness among players.

It  would it be so awesome see so many unique cultural wear based off of an elementalist, mesmer, necromancer, engineer, warrior, ranger, and guardian.

If this topic has been discussed before, I apologize, I just wanted to hear what other players thought about this.

Thanks and happy gaming ;)

Working on my guardian alt. This is what I intend in the end, but probably using a mix of white, gold, and black dyes when I can afford them.

Shoulders: T2 Norn
Chest: T3 Norn
Legs: Vigil
Hands: Pit Fighter Gauntlets from Karma Vendor
Feet: Decided to go with Heritage Warboots. Was torn between that and T1 Norn Boots. Probably will switch when I feel like it.

EDITED: All done with my guardian. It was a blast to level up. Though I made a few revisions:

Off topic, but me and my mates now play a drinking game where we read Duskwolf's post and have to drink everytime he uses "cognitive dissonance".  Doesn't take long before we are smashed.  :D

If I do quit GW2, it won't be Anet driving me away,
It'll be this piss-poor community that's developing within the game.
Shit's dead because everyone would rather QQ about how the game isn't going in the direction they personally want than play it,

Honestly it's attitudes like this that make a "piss-poor community".  You obviiously have some "u mad bro" issues and when it shows like this no one cares to deal with you.  You are your own issue.

I think this deserves more discussion than it has been getting. The absence of real tanks and healers hasn't broken the game completely, but I feel it has added absolutely nothing while taking away a lot of potential depth from what has turned out to be extremely bland and shallow PvE. I think the three roles simply belong in MMORPG combat and shouldn't be tampered too much with. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.

I haven't played for weeks, I keep coming back hoping Anet will make positive changes but it is always for the worst.

The truth is imo that they took out the best parts of GW1 when they made GW2, it just doesn't have the same magic. They took out completely customizable skillbars, locking them to weapons. There is no build diversity, usually there is one weapon better than the others so people use that. There are not enough skills in the game and the skills have too high a recharge forcing people to wait. In Guild Wars one you were ALWAYS using your skills, your elite was actually useful and integral to your build, not a rubbish summon that you can use every 2 minutes... Also signet of capture? Amazing idea... way better than buying your skills from your inventory... doesn't make sense. Even if you buy them from trainers rather than capturing them from enemies Anet could have hidden the trainers in hard to find locations to make exploring more worthwhile, make it seem like you're learning hidden knowledge. People used to go to out of the way towns to learn hard to find skills.

Story missions, why have so many branches? Although some people may like the personal story I preferred playing with people, why not divide players up into race and then order when it came to doing the missions? There could be henchmen for that and it would suit the story better in that you would be growing up in your hometown doing those missions and then joining an order to work together with  heroes of other races. That is just my personal opinion, instead of having everyone doing their own instance you would have groups of 5-8.

PvP modes, the great thing about Guild Wars 1 was all the different PvP modes that you can participate in, this game just feels so watered down with the same PvP mode and the same professions/builds dominating. HA alone with 7 different maps and 3 to 4 different gametypes blows sPvP out of the water. I do really like world versus world so thats definitely something that they did better in GW2.

It may have been difficult in this game but 2nd professions was another amazing idea that got thrown away. Imagine being able to pick a secondary class and use some of the skills, Anet could even make it really lengthy and difficult to change your secondary class giving you something to aim for after 30 rather than just the grind to 80 for no reason other than trait points.

Not all of these ideas would have fit in but the fact remains that Anet threw away all these great ideas that Guild Wars veterans loved and didn't adequately replace them turning GW2 into a generic themepark MMO that failed to attain its true potential. I believe Anet can still salvage a decent game if they make the right changes but this game could have just been so much better...

Edit: Anet has also gotten lazy with the skill changes, the game wasn't balanced in GW1 either but at least they shook things up and created new meta's every update. The last update was so hyped up and failed on so many levels, they barely changed anything for rangers and engineers(except for greatswords and grenades) and they stomped on elementalists completely. The only reasonably impactful change was nerfing mesmers slightly, they didn't even touch backstab or retaliation.
