Ahh, thanks. Never played GW so that thing is outta my league.

Here's my mesmer. I'm changing the color every couple hours trying to find the perfect combo that fits her just right.

The more you use shatter, the better berserker is compared to rampager. However note that with full rampager your condition damage pretty much doubles, which means wind of chaos --- in full rampagers hitting roughly 300 without crit + 800 worth of condition damage (that doesn't stack up really, so you won't run into capping unless there's guardian/ele perma burn and/or engi/necro bleed capping in your group), making it a somewhat potent auto-attack. And if you have the extra bounce trait this often doubles the damage on your primary target, if you stay in staff a lot I strongly recommend it. Your iWarlock will hit nearly as hard as full berserker due to crit damage doesn't transfer onto your phantasm (you will lose 1/3 power though switching from berserker to rampager, still noticeable). iDuelist bleed can go up quite high, but realistically you won't be doing that near bleed capping dps as easily as say a necro and engineer, because unlike them, it's not like we can always keep up the bleed stack due to phantasms dying.

In short though, if you're careful with your illusion setup to maximize condition damage, staff/pistol is higher dps in full rampager compares to full berserker. Assuming 20 20 0 0 30 or 10 30 0 0 30 setup (you still need dueling for the clones/bleed, domination and illusions are condition duration/condition damage respectively, and you still need their phantasm dmg increasing trait. Illusion = 9% dmg, extra bounce, and reduced phantasm recharge). Putting 20 into chaos to get the staff CD reduction, or putting 25 into inspiration for phantasm damage, are both dps loss.

So you'd want to immediately summon up 3 illusions, filling slots with staff clones, as soon as you enter combat. And then work your way into getting iDuelist/iWarlock onto the field (ideally 3 iDuelist, but 2 iDuelist + 1 iWarlock can be done in 16 seconds and not a significant dps loss). Only shatter when either you KNOW you can immediate summon up more clones/phantasms, or your illusions will die anyways. Going full rampager your staff damage with trait will be higher than sword, so just save sword for either #2 or whenever you need a iDuelist and are stuck in sword for 8 seconds.

This way you're still a glass cannon, doing slightly less dps than a full berserker GS/Staff or GS/Sword+Sword mesmer at optimal setup. But the advantage of this setup is that you no longer fully rely on phantasms, your clones are a lot more useful and hence your damage doesn't fluctuate up and down depending on fight as much. Also, on tough armor bosses you have an advantage. Just note that unlike say a scepter necro, your direct damage through phantasms is still a major portion of your dps, don't disregard them just because you're focusing on conditions. Also, AoE in this setup would be less strong due to lack of iBerserker and shatter not being as strong, but you can still get away with wind of chaos (hitting 3 target = cleave basically) + chaos storm or sword cleaving. And shatters.

Thanks for the info. The reason I was asking is because I'm currently running 20 20 0 0 30 - full berserker GS/Sword+focus, but in Strifes vid I saw him using a rampager staff/pistol and not berserker. I'm looking for an extra offhand sword/pistol/staff, but I'm not entirely sure what stats are better - shatter/dmg wise. You said that crit damage doesn't transfer to phantasms, so I'm wondering if berserkers 9% crit dmg on staff/pistol is worth it for warlock/dualist (or that rampagers condition dmg is better).

Staff = berserker, lvl 80 exotic. I have a rampager staff too but for this testing I used berserker for consistency. I also have both berserker and rampager pistols and again, for testing used berserker. :)

And would you recommend berseker or rampager for the warlock/dualist? I'm currently leaning more towards rampager for the extra cond dmg - but I'm still not entirely sure.
