Topics I've Started

Four months of fluff and good making nerfs

16 December 2012 - 05:23 PM

Pretty much says it all for the development of GW2 since launch.   Spvp is dead.   WvW is quickly dying.  The game is getting stale.  They focus n one off events and adding fluff.  There's no depth to this game.  I can't even get myself to log in for the latest round of fluff.  Yes, I know "an expansion worth of content coming in Feb/Jan".

I predict it will be an expansion worth of fluff and pve breakouts in PvP.  Too bad because this is yet another game with squandering potential.

PCGamer: NCsoft Seattle offices undergoing “realignment”

05 December 2012 - 12:48 AM

“NCsoft is realigning internal publishing resources to better suit the needs of our game development studios,” Davis told PC Gamer. “As a result of the realignment, several employees and contract positions were affected. This was a very tough decision to make and wish the best for all NCsoft employees in their next ventures.” Davis didn’t elaborate on the extent of the restructure nor of any possible effects to Guild Wars 2.

While we are indeed a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation (read NCsoft HQ), we are also our own entity. ArenaNet has not been affected by the NCwest realignment. And indeed, we are hiring: http://www.arena.net/jobs/

F2p v. Sub Game

26 November 2012 - 01:27 AM

So, this year was the year that f2p was supposed to wipe the planet of sub games.  (so articles said pre gw2).  Now that GW2 has been out and we've seen how they entice people into buying gems via DR and gear grind/T6 grind. We also see Swtor version of f2p and PS2 is now out.

In the end, is a sub model better for the mmo gamer?  Is 15 a month actually more bang for the buck with lots of depth and cheaper in the longer run v. pay2win and"f2p" models?

Guild wars 2 and SWTOR both deliver less and push people blatantly at every corner to go beyond 15 a month it seems like to me.

Does anyone see a connection between the politics of the NA/EU of entitlements and those that post about how legendaries should be easier to get and exotics should be end game gear(since it took you a few hours to get really)?

People want everything given to them or do not want to work for anything. I see a direct correlation with what is going on in the real world.  Interesting microcosm from a video game.

I see the argument now regarding stat treadmill and keep it skill based, but this game along with its predecessor is probably one of the easier MMOs ever, and both cater to casuals already.

Now, I do think they can bring more depth into the game by expanding traits and weapon skills, but I'm guessing that would cause the same few thousand to ask for a refund again.

There is literally more weapon grind in CoD right now vs. GW2

GW2 longevity?

25 October 2012 - 03:20 PM

Does anyone think GW2 has what it takes to remain a top mmo long term.  I'm of the belief that the days of WoW type longevity is gone and gamers are way more fickle now.  Anet's only shot is to keep content flowing every 3 months.   New games like PS2 free or not are going to continually take players away.  In this mmo gaming environment is it possible for GW2 to stand the test of time like some of our all time favorites?  Personally, it has potential, but Anet needs to ramp it up more for it to happen imo.
