In Topic: Ranger Patch Notes.. What does it really equate to?

Regarding spirits specifically, I'm not really sure what an extra 15% base proc chance is supposed to do.  All but the elite spirit have a 10 second internal cooldown on their proc effects.  Yay for more wasted procs because of internal cooldowns?  Not to mention it cheapens the already bad +15% proc chance trait since the percentage difference is lower than before (~43% increase vs 75% increase).

All that while not dealing with the bigger issue of spirits not living long enough to provide meaningful support.

In Topic: axe/torch- viable?

Axe/torch is great for condition type builds.

Personally, I prefer sword/torch.  Bonfire is PBAoE so it's more easily used if you're already in melee.  Sure you can shoot through it for burning, but most projectile finishers aren't guaranteed.

Oh, and if you pick up the offhand mastery it increases the radius of bonfire in addition to letting you hit with throw torch at 1200 range... plus the cooldown redux on both.

In Topic: Axe Off-hand

I want to like axe off-hand but I can't since moving while using Whirling Defense interrupts the skill and puts it on cooldown.  Pet swap for quickness + Whirling Defense is a great AoE vuln stacker, but risky since you're unable to move without interrupting the skill.

Until that happens (not likely, but I can dream) I'll be using a torch off-hand with my sword.

I actually really like the look of this build--I wanted to aim for something similar once I hit max level, but right now am heavy Skirmishing to beef up my DPS so killing goes a bit quicker.

I'm happy to hear that 1H Sword is viable in dungeons, though. It's my favorite weapon, so much so that I considered rerolling a different class that had ranged options I liked a bit more than the rangers'.

Curious though--do you use the Axe MH much, or do you just swap sets to use the warhorn abilities?

I use the axe MH about as often as the sword.  Since I'm usually in or near melee range it's easy to stack 5 bleeds with Splitblade.  The chill + weakness from Winter's Bite shouldn't be underestimated either.  Due to the nature of the build almost requiring constant weapon swapping to maintain might stacks it's hard to say whether I favor one set over the other.  I guess I like them both!

That said, there are situations where one set is better than the other.  Sometimes you can't stay in melee very long, like in some Twilight Arbor fights.  Other times the extra evades from the sword MH without using endurance is extremely useful, like when fighting the rock ring versions of Subject Alpha in Crucible of Eternity.
