(And just to make one thing clear: this doesn't mean that GW2 is bad, it just means that I would like to see a game that actually fully uses GW1's mechanics)

The Guild Wars Guru Community along with all the Gamers that Play and continue to support the Game (Guild Wars) recently made a Open Letter for ArenaNet that has been making some fuss! They a want kickstarter project!

The idea is to revitalize the game with its funds and rejoice those players that want a high level PvP experience but doesn't relinquishes a extensive and satisfying laid back PvE!

It's for those players that likes the holy trinity, DPS, Healer and Tank. Or as you wish, midline frontline and backline!  

Or maybe for those players that want to play the central Module of this game. Guild vs Guild (The name of the game is Guild Wars for christ sake!)

If you still like the game and don't want to see it getting dust just because his new brother is in town, read the letter!

Ad hominem. Regardless of whether the poster needs to do the living story or not has nothing to do with the fact that he may be waiting for ArenaNet to focus on things that are much more important to the game. Simply telling him he doesn't have to do it doesn't address his concern - it is only an effort to belittle him.

The berserker, hands down. Five full zerker players will easily steamroll the vast majority of the PvE content. Problems, like the one you are referring to, are first and foremost emerging from players who run MF, condition builds or excessive amounts of defensive stats. The more players in your group run suboptimal stats the harder it is to keep up as full zerker because every encounter takes significantly longer than it should.

* Mystic Forge, Black Lion chests, etc. to exploit gambling mentality. - Especially neat when combined with seasonal stuff.

Looking at the suggestions on how to make the game better:

1. Mystery.
Given the amount of content in an area and given the amount of content a player needs to play though to level, there's no mystery: you need to do everything in the given area and you need to do it in a specific order. As a guy that loves exploring (pretty much the only title I display on my characters, outside of Gladiator, is Traveller, just because it best describes how I enjoy experiencing games), GW2 exploration feels like GW1's wall-hugging: I still remember being completely disgusted with myself for running along the map borders, with my view turned towards the edge instead of enjoying the map I was actually in.

2. Mastery.
While players can get better, there's no reason to do. You can easily complete content with a fairly brain-dead playstyle. Which ties in with ...

3. Mental Challenge.
When the game tries to be difficult, it mostly succeeds in being annoying. Contrary to a lot of players though, I'd be perfectly fine with an easier game as long as it's designed nicely: as I said numerous times, GW1 was at its best when it was moderately difficult. Also in GW2, my absolutely favourite foes are the veteran oakhearts: they aren't as easy as the most random of trash, but they aren't hard either. They just seem to be on the right level of difficulty that A.Net is capable of designing for.

4. Narrative.
There is no narrative in this game. Not only is the story here optional, players are expected to jump through hoops to participate in it. The lack of a narrative also doesn't help with a sense of mystery.

5. Novelty.
I loved GW1's approach of giving players tons of skills, allowing said player to take on the same problem with different tools. You also weren't punished for rebuilding your character (this includes having to pay for a respec or gear having a massive influence on your build -  so when you want to switch builds, you are hit with massive costs, cost that simply aren't worth it because everything works) or travelling around the world as heavily as you are in GW2. Not only that, due to the Swiss army knife approach to characters, you also lose out on the superb party-building aspect of GW1: running around in a paragon heavy team, that was build quite differently to a caster heavy team, is still one of my favourite gaming experiences ever.

6. Flow.
I think CoF P1 is a part of the game that flows pretty nicely: the problem with it is that you need to skip a lot of the path to achieve that flow and that seems to be very much representative of the whole game: shit not only takes too long to kill it's also utterly unrewarding . The way to achieve flow is to play the game the way it doesn't seem to be designed to be played.

This is my outline on how to do this right. Sort off.
1) Month 1: Discontinue MF item creation:
"Rogue Second in Command after Shatterer has started consuming certain kind magic, he is rebelling and on his way to become Elder Dragon! We must stop him or else we will have Metal-themed elder dragon! We have put moratorium on production of items that feed him and Trahearne is investigating it." (Prelude style content in Brisband Wildlands)
  • Remove MF items from loot tables
  • Remove them from vendors and replace them with other stats in vendors where they are necessary (i.e. Runes of Noble).
  • Create replacement stat combination (I would love Power/Healing Power/Toughness myself) for item crafting, put this in place of MF stuff to loot tables and to vendors
MF infusions and consumables are to be working as usual
2) Month 2: Offer Refund
"We are collecting items to destroy and prevent from reaching him. In meanwhile, he has started spawning metallic minions which hunt for his food" (Metallic minions will have bonus damage against players based on MF they have and spawn randomly throughout world, but mostly in Brisband and surrounding areas)
  • Offer to buy any MF stuff for variable amount of tokens based on how difficult is was to be get, for Tokens, offer:
  • MF Cooking Consumables
  • MF boost cash shop items.
  • MF infusions - Also with expensive offensive/Defensive versions which have MF + 4 point of some other stat.
  • Ascended stuff with Utility slot that takes MF infusions. (Also available for laurels/guild tokens/fractal tokens)
  • Refund for original tokens or currency where possible
  • Make MF items give better stuff when throw to Mystic Forge. "Precursor Rush"
  • Special "Deprecated Items" salvage kit will be introduced offering 100% chance of keeping upgrades from deprecated items and maximum salvage yield from them (Equivalent of BLT salvage kit), available for a little bit of karma and copper.
3) Month 3
"Pact forges are enforcing ban on magic feeding dragon and are confiscating items that can feed him. They tracked him down and are ready to attack him. Now." (Ascending Dragon meta event culminating with fighting Champion Metallic Minion is added, prelude style stuff mostly removed and would-be new elder dragon goes to sleep, weakened and starving, to be awakened when something else needs to be eradicated from loot tables or when new dungeon is deemed necessary or when we need dangerous ally)
  • Deprecate existing MF stuff - It should no longer be equipable and upgrades applicable. If player has them equipped, they will be removed when he logs in and mailed to him while being replaced with Masterwork PVT items of same skin.
  • Item upgraded with mf item will automatically get upgrade replaced with random upgrade of same rarity,
  • Marketplace should stop accepting Mf item listings.
  • Remaining stuff at Marketplace will be unlisted and returned to players.
4) Month 4
  • Game is now MF equipment free, it only exists as temporary boosts or in upgrade slots that do not compete with combat stats.
  • Players had enough time to make transition peacefully, and have likely made some neat profit from this situation. Possibly more profit than by using MF gear themselves.
  • There is new bonus-chest event and new type of "Metallic minions" enemies. (Basically, reskinned branded to be golden/silver/platinum/etc..., introduced "branded" Asura)
1) Stop adding new mf stuff to game
2) Give people option of converting existing stuff to something else.
3) Make people stop using existing stuff.

OP is correct and it's pathetic Anet have let it go on for so long.

Cof should of been sorted out months ago.

It was the most exploited dungeon in the first 2 weeks of launch and month or so after that as well, the pre launch dungeon team on gw2 is one of the worst I have ever seen. Players had full sets of cof armor and weapons within days of launch as well as hundreds in gold because of that screw up...trading post wasn't even up yet....

What makes it worse is those players if cof was removed, would either stop playing the game or just move to the next quickest and easiest monkeys could do it dungeon path, because players like that are just pathetic, with no social ability's, no skill and no brain cells between them. Bunch of sheep who live in their own little worlds...

Removing cof will not resolve the issue.

What they need to do is what should be done since day one, re work every single dungeon in the game, none of this increased health bars of normal npc's and throw them in an instance crap.

There is almost no risk of failure in pve or dungeons, they need to make it so it requires skill, thinking and multiple professions to complete dungeons, not just RAW DAMAGE SPAM 12345, yay I win. AND if you do fail you don't auto res with waypoints and start again with hardly any sort of consequence, free to try as many times as you like until you succeed. If you wipe or fail more than a few times, then that's it you should be kicked out of the dungeon but no....we don't want to upset the players who can't think besides SMASH GOOD, and we must speed clear with only 2 professions.....

Profession balancing is also to blame for this sort of situation. Anet have had plenty of time to sort this out and players losing patience and getting tired of saying the same old thing on deaf ears.

Anet have been given a zillion suggestions on how to fix dungeons in gw2 but they keep on adding temp content and new gem store items instead. Maybe if we give them another 8 months everything will be fine....
