GW1 had a combat system that emphasized managing bars: health bars for healing, skill activation bars for interruption, (your own) energy bar.

GW2 is much more about watching what happens in the game instead of the GUI.

I prefer GW2, but is it better? Hard to answer, seems like an apples - oranges thing.

it isn't a step backwards because it's a different entity altogether, they don't walk the same tangent

plus GW1's combat, and I mean strictly combat, is a relic of an old age, standstill combat RPG style. GW2's combat at least has a semblance of being more modern, ability to move while casting, no "mana" (besides initiative), etc.

If you're talking about designing builds, then yes it is a step backwards, they stripped their skill system of it's customization and added traits, which aren't adequate enough to replace what was taken away, which sucks hard because I loved designing builds and teams in GW1, it was half the fun for me.

yep jumping is useless, except for jumping puzzles of course, but it's still extremely limited in function.

Dodge is okay, it's not impressive sure but it definitely is an interesting mechanic and adds dynamic to combat.

However, I like that they took away dedicated healing classes, though sometimes I do miss the holy trinity, having everything spread out like this has it's perks. Teams are no longer synergized by class but rather by build, which allows groups to be able to substitute certain classes with others that are slightly different in functionality but still retains the same motif to builds teams that are varied but still equal in effectiveness (replacing 1 class with a control build with another class with a control build, they both serve the same general purpose, but bring different things to the table in the end). this would've been even better than it is now if GW2 had the proper customization, but unfortunately it doesn't.

Yeah, i also had not heard of it before the patch fixing it..... seems like it would not be that effective (or worthwhile), what with the cost of CnD and even with the init regen traits doesn't seem like it would work that great..... And really... what cant a thief do normally that would require a glitched stealth mechanic, besides the people using it being to bad to use a thief properly.

Surprised at how many people suddenly turned up to rez me having fell of a wall. Didn't realize they were around until I needed help. Often lots of people around for certain events. World is populated even in low/middle zones. Only really have guild/say displayed on my chat so not very vocal. Doesn't mean I'm not around.

Yea but from an arenanet perspective those holiday events generate massive revenue via gem store costumes and black lion chest purchases, while also spicing up the game economy in order to stabalize the prices of less wanted items. WvW updates however will only temporarily please about 5% of the games playerbase while also being incredibly hard to implement successfully based on a variety of variables from technological limits (culling) to balance issues (new maps, skills, rewards etc). In any case the developer teams for pve and wvw are different so its not like they are pulling resources from one to progress the other, its just that WvW updates take time, granted there are things that could be done quickly which would help (rewards) but I also dont blame them for being cautious. At the end of the day, I doubt the developers sit there with the intent of delaying updates as much as possible.

At lvl 50 don't go WvW, and don't even worry about a build.

Just the thinking of being a roamer at lvl 50 is compleltly absurd. Get you ass to lvl 80, get bsk gear and run a backstap build and join the club of the " Fotm thieves".

It's the truth.

I guess the main issue is not so much the risk of scam, but the fact that artwork is an out of game commodity, while the gw2 gold is an ingame currency, thus Anet can't officially allow it at the risk of opening the door to gold selling and other forbidden trades (no, dear person from support, I didn't buy those 2k g for real world money, it's the payment for this stick figure I drew for that guy, dare you say it's not a worthy piece of art?). As much as I doubt they'll ever bother banning a real commission trade for ingame money, sadly I suppose they simply can't afford officially condoning it either. :(

Unless backstab is nerfed by like 50% (lol, 4k on glass cannons, 2-3k on decent people? even autoattack would be better) I have no reason to switch from D/D.
It's lots of fun for me due to requiring positioning, timing and stealth management - I find the other setups too facerollish for my tastes.
Then again if PW was decreased by 15% I can't see them doing worse on backstab since it requires stealth and it's positional.

I believe they should instead disallow to "charge" CnD before steal.
If they did, people would have 1 second or more from steal to backstab, so they would have no reason to cry again because it would be 100% L2P issue.
I already don't use charged CnD because I find it gimmicky and I want it changed.
