In Topic: Runes for condition build?

24 February 2013 - 11:53 PM

Thanks for all the replies. Some things I didn't think about condition duration vs. damage.

I actually have Lyssa runes from salvaging for ectos and mats to craft some mad king runes. So for now I'm gonna go with 4 mad king and 2 Lyssa.

I'm back home visiting family this week so unfortunately I can't actually put any of it to use just yet. But I've at least been playing around on my apps for build ideas and I believe I've got it all set for now. After the advice about glamours etc. It likely won't be perfect but it looks fun to play.

Personally I go with 6 Superior Rune of the Nightmare on my Mesmer when focusing on Conditions.

I've been running TA for the skins so I've got atm 4 of these anyway. I'll try them and see, thanks.

for a mesmer i think the rune of undead are the best, it gives you cond damage as main + thoughness for some def and another +50 cond damage from the last ability.

if you want go condition you must put 20pt in  illusion and take bouncind attack and 3% damage per illusion.

but it's a phantasmal build, ok you have staff for Condition but for this build i will go for zerk-knight gear.

I've found so far, with the Rabid armour and mesmer skills in general, that I have more than enough toughness. if it gave vitality instead I'd happily use them.

I'm a bit confused by the other parts of your post. Do you mean that my build would not work well with the amour I have right now?
Could you give me an example of a condition build you'd use with rabid/rampager's?

In Topic: What are you spending your gold on right now?

Honestly I don't see what there is to save gold for. In LA map chat I regularly see people bragging about how many thousands of gold they have now. One person was shouting how he was using it to practice for a future career in investment banking. I'm not sure he got the joke btw.

But once you hit 80, and buy your exotics, maybe 2 or 3 sets even. Then what? Choose a look for your gear set?

Unless you want to look like a Harden-using Metapod, or a circus whore, cultural armour is out. And none of the other looks require gold to buy.

You could save for a legendary if you've recently been made unemployed and fancy working 24/7 til the monotony drives you to suicide.

Or you could get mats for ascended items if your idea of fun is running 3 of 9 instances upwards of 30 times. Mine isn't.

Ultimately gold is easy to come by. I do nothing to earn it and make around 4-5 gold a day just listing things I find on the TP or crafting something when I stumble upon 5 ectos. Finding things to use that gold on? Not easy to come by at all...

I'm wasting it on different investment strategies, mainly gambling ones now.

I push the envelope on some of them to see the threshold of gaining and loosing a little of money towards a lot of money to give me a good idea on my limits.

I've also tested how T6 salvaging works and Ecto salvaging works.  I know people have posted their own data, but I wanted to confirm or reject it myself.

I actually blew a lot more money then I needed too; however, I always treat time as the biggest commodity.  So in order to save time I had to waste more money.  I'm happy with my results and hopefully this will help me stay fluid in the trading post economy.

This right here is why I'm stopping for a while. Seriously, did you read this before you posted?

This is what you do in GW2?

To each their own, and if some people choose to play this game this way then more power to them. But the fact that this is even a viable way of playing at the moment is why I've uninstalled it for a month or so.

I think you've more or less nailed the important traits in your builds.

Not saying what you've decided on is wrong, just giving a few points to think about when refining your build:

* For build 1, 5% of toughness into condition damage, with about 2000 toughness, nets you 100 condition damage. I hope there are other things you wanted in that trait line, otherwise that's a steep price for 100 condition damage, although having the extra toughness is pretty nice. If you are planning to invest in direct damage at all, the extra Mind Wrack damage with 10 in Dominion is worth it.

* For build 2, I would consider moving 15 points out of Illusions to somewhere else; it's not 100% necessary and I've heard it doesn't work on a lot of phantasms. Also you are "wasting" Illusionary Retribution since you likely will either never or barely ever shatter with this build. 15 in toughness could be nice for the protection and stat boost.

Thanks. In that case I think I'm leaning more towards Build 1. With what you've said, possibly taking 10 points out of Chaos and going into Domination for the Mind Wrack buff. 20% more damage seems good since I'll be shattering fairly often for the might stacks from Shattered Strength.

However, that will effectively lower my toughness by 150. 100 from 10 points in Chaos, and 50 from the Chaotic Dampening trait... Sigh. Couldn't they give us 80 traits? :P
