#2080982 Anet says Dungeon/open world loot is "abysmal".

Posted FiachSidhe on 15 November 2012 - 04:21 PM

This game has THE worst loot I've ever seen outside of an Asian grinder, and they just keep making it worse! They say it's abysmal, but it's abysmal because they made it that way. What do they want us to do about it?

Halloween taught me that, to Anet, even holiday items are reduced to a joyless grind. They couldn't bother fixing the bug that prevented people from jumping into the clock, but boy did they nerf those labyrinth chests fast. GW2 has the worst risk to reward ratio ever. It's like they go out of their way to disappoint players with garbage for their efforts.

I will never understand developers that do that.

Maybe you never played GW1, but you would have to kill a boss 50 times to get their green sometimes.  Personally, I would like to see more stuff from GW1 in GW2, and unique weapons from bosses wouldn't be a bad start.

From my PoV the loot system totally sucks in GW2, In GW1 we had random rare items from almost every dungeon, that in itself kept me going back and try to get the skin I wanted which was a good reason but the way GW2 is: Go in dungeon get the lame daily tokens and when you have enough get a weapon of your choice.

My second biggest complaint about the loot is that rare skins come mostly from the mystic forge and the horrible recipe idea. I mean WHAT THE HELL? First of all getting a Legendary precursor as a drop is almost insanely rare but what's worse is that it's a total gamble if you don't want to grind, it's totally jackpot *Inser coins (aka 4 items)* and pull the lever.

To me ANet left out the challenge of hunting for an item in GW2, almost every "rare" skin is: get these items and go to mystic forge.

For all the things that I see wrong in GW2 and I disagree with about 70% of ANet's choices for GW2, I gotta say this time I agree the drops are abysmal to the point where I just open the merch box and sell everything.

I want to go do a dungeon where I don't have to feel "meh another day another 60-120 tokens" but Instead I want to say "hey there's a chance for cool skin 1234 from the final chest" let's go have a few shots at it.

Ok I think I'm pretty much well done with my rant about drops, I could go on about how poor and boring the game is in it's current state.

Well, their reward system in general needs a little work. Random open world veteran/champion mobs are indeed generally a waste of time. I haven't noticed better drops from them than from regular mobs. Also, dynamic event rewards all seem to have rewards based solely on the area they're in. Getting the exact same karma/money reward for killing a dangerous champion that takes 10 people 10 minutes to take down as for some of the easier events that can be done solo in a minute or less, that always struck me as kind of wrong.

The Laurels are there for people that PLAY the game. Selling them in the gemstore would be rather illogical.

#2153078 Massive guardian nerfs

Posted armoured bearshark on 29 January 2013 - 05:35 AM

Oh noes the end times are upon us! I simply cannot fathom guardianing without elusive power. Not only has this unscrupulous nerf blasted my build, apparel and playstyle into the nether realms of existentialism but also my existence, my core being and worth as a human has been decimated by this nerf!  That one trait was IT. It was the ANSWER to everything and the universe, without it guardians are lost, we simply cannot function to acceptable efficiency. Anet should just delete this class now.

You can't interrupt the dodge roll with auto-attack chains anymore, so there's no way to burn endurance to keep it up.  Now you have to roll, but rolling means you're not attacking, so it's a net DPS loss.  The trait is basically useless as-is now.

So it is basically a fix to a formerly broken mechanic?

#2152997 Limit to res in dungeons

this is a lot better. Im pretty sure every class has an instant revive skill. Now people will actually USE them! :o
How can you call this a bonehead move? Arnt most, if not all MMO's like this? Ive never played an mmo where you could just respawn and run back into the boss fight.

I like to have a constant password for everything

Wait...wut?  Are you basically saying that you would use the same password you use for your guild wars account with say, your email account and your guru account??

If so then THAT is exactly why Anet feels the need to do this.

This is *ing retarded. I'm not the type of person who's password is ''1234'', but I have to fall victim to this. I've never been hacked nor will I ever be, but because of those idiots that essentially let themselves get hacked, I have to pay the price. I like to have a constant password for everything, because I can remember it. I don't want to have five different passwords floating around in my head and more forgotten because of ArenaNet thinking that we are all twelve year olds. I've been a devoted fan since Prophecies, but they have lost my respect by forcing this change.

if this is all it takes for anet to lose your respect than it obviously isn't worth much to begin with, having said that i agree with the rest of your post i just think this is a bit of an overreaction

Here's my Norn/Elementalist's final vanity appearance, made up of a miss-mash of different gear, I'll list the gear below...
  • Head - Oldgate Cloth Helm
  • Shoulders - Acolyte Mantle
  • Chest - Acolyte Coat
  • Hands - Flame Legion Gloves
  • Legs - Heritage Trousers (Pants for Americans)
  • Feet - Flame Legion Shoes

'I'm Squirrel' I think that armour on your Mesmer looks bloody awesome, also Fancy Fool has some good style as such :3 my personal favourite of theirs is the penultimate red outfit.

#2143879 Cosmetic Reward is not the best carrot for an MMO

Posted kalendraf on 16 January 2013 - 06:39 PM

My biggest problem with GW2's current cosmetic rewards (specifically armor skins) is that there aren't any of them that I find appealing.  In GW1, there were several armor skins that I found attractive and I put in the necessary work to get all of them that I wanted.  Unfortunately, most of the GW2 armor stylings seem to be intended for those players with a trenchcoat and buttcape fetish, and the tiny number of alternatives don't include any styles I like.

In terms of the "carrot" concept, I'd be perfectly happy to do the work to chase a tasty carrot if there was actually a tasty carrot for me to chase.  Right now, all I'm seeing (and smelling) is an orange piece of rotting vegetable matter hanging on a string, and I have no desire to get any closer to it.
