#2250176 Why am I getting dissed for only wanting zerkers in my party?

Posted Swoopeh on 25 October 2013 - 12:05 PM

If you're asking for a zerker only group in your LFG note and people don't read it it's their fault - they don't HAVE to join your group and you have the right to form an all zerker party with like minded individuals.

This is what's wrong with MMOs today. "Bring X build or will KICK" is all you here anymore. I for one will bring whatever build I feel like and to hell with the "min/maxers". As has been said before, in PvE all builds are viable so use what you want. Me personally, I use LB/SB and I couldn't care less if I'm top DPS or how long it takes to run a dungeon.

Sadly I constantly meet people like you when looking for a speedrun group.

Yet another "peace and love and bring random builds" post... But this time it is different! You claim to be at fractal level 30, and I can even believe you simply because you specified you play a GS/LB ranger. You may or may not know it, but GS is like the second best weapon for ranger at the moment, so even if it's not the best choice for speedrun it still allows you to get some rewards. Now, since you told us about that friend of yours too... Let us know how he does in level 20+ fractals with his A/WH, I really am curious. Or ask him what happens if he finds a party for CM path 3 wich is not perfectly built! I bet the answer will be a simple: he cannot do both. This means unviable to me.

I didn't start using greatsword until about 3 weeks ago when I made a Sunrise. I used to use A/WH too, and I've run plenty of dungeons, including CM path 3 and fractals up to 30 before I started using GS. I've run 26+ fractals with my friend. If you have a decent group that knows the mechanics, it's not that bad. You doing mediocre damage isn't going to make or break a run. I know greatsword is much, much better than axe and that is why I decided to make a Sunrise and play greatsword instead.

I'm not a "peace and love and bring random builds" person. I know that under GW2's mechanics, DPS is king and that anything else isn't as good. I do a lot of dungeons these days, so I try to run higher end DPS and would prefer that people in my group have higher end DPS. When people ask me for build advice, I tell people that it's preferable to run full berserker and that the meta is S/W.

I'm simply pointing out that most dungeons, including CM path 3, are really not very hard, and that you can get away with having crappy DPS output. I don't see why you singled out CM path 3 as something where you need a perfect build for. I've run CM path 3 probably some two dozen times in the last two months using a guardian in rare gear with a hammer and had no problems.

#2240447 Viability of Rifle and Hammer in PvE?

Posted whodini on 04 October 2013 - 05:19 PM

I play a/a or a/m and lb.but one thing I like doing more than anything when im bored or just feel the need. I go to cs and break out the hammer. I have to say the hammer animations are the best in the game for war.  but for usefulness.  great for banging out aggression and that's it.

Kicking someone out because you don't like THEIR choice of weapon is poor sport. If you can't handle the the hammer in dungeons then perhaps you should be kicking yourself out so the rest of the party can enjoy the game. AND it's not up to you to decide whether your party members will enjoy a hammer warrior or not. You're right that it might take longer and more difficult to get through a dungeon, but taking longer and more difficult method is not a wrong way to play and it shouldn't be frowned upon. The hammer warrior shouldn't be insulted or belittled for choosing a weapon of THEIR CHOICE. Players are not drones or NPCs. They are not there to serve your efficiency-dependent needs. In other words don't use your personal issues with the hammer to piss all over someone else's idea of fun. Kick yourself off the team.

Depends who formed the team.  If I was joining their team and they had a guy who was carebear enough to run hammer in the dungeon I would, "well this team sucks, gonna be a long one" and deal with it.  If I formed the team and put that I was looking for a DPS warrior and hammerbro joins my team he will be kicked rapidly.

#2231254 Near Immortal "Offensive" Support (NIOS) build

Posted AMonkeyCourier on 05 September 2013 - 02:59 AM

Sorry, but this build is really not good at all compared to all the others showcased here. Gimping your DPS serves no purpose other than to act as a crutch for being unable to properly mitigate damage through dodges, blinds, blocks and positioning. All of the support need in a high level fracts team can be provided while dealing near-optimal damage.

lol reporting someone for not roleplaying. Now I get why GM's are always busy. RP'ers are bugging them with useless tickets.

I doubt they'll do anything for roleplayers.

When did he imply that? He's talking about people who deliberately target roleplayers for griefing. Are 99% of players like that?
He is implying he wants to live on an island, a.k.a. his own head, and that anyone normal who talks to him can be labeled "griefer". RP'ers generally have a superiority complex.

How can Role Players be protected from griefing? Even if they put someone on ignore, people can still try to disrupt them by jumping about in their groups, dodge rolling back and forth, and firing off skill animations. In Guild Wars 1, they do have a report button, but it assumes that people are saying objectionable things in chat. If these griefers don't actually speak, how can they be reported? Maybe RPs should get together and petition ANet to modify the report system, but how can it be changed?
You want to force 99% of gamers (the ones that don't do what you do) to comply with your exotic playstyle? Or else?
People these days...

#2231859 I only use staff

Posted Nikephoros on 07 September 2013 - 08:11 PM

Bad is relative.  You're either below your potential or at your potential.  Using staff on an ele means you are below your potential.  Some people are happy being mediocre in life, passively enduring life's hardships and wondering where it all went wrong.

#2231880 I only use staff

Posted BrazilTheHue on 07 September 2013 - 10:26 PM

I think it is a matter of how you define "bad." Just asking if it makes you bad leaves a lot up in the air, and you are inviting a lot of different and conflicting opinions into the mix. If you define bad as not knowing boss encounters, dying a lot, and not knowing how to dodge, then using a Staff doesn't really apply to that. If you keep those factors in mind and also include not doing a lot of damage, not having an optimized build, not being able to skip trash mobs, not using melee weapons, etc, then you are only fulfilling some of the requirements. If you only include bad damage optimizations then you fill all of the requirements for being bad. So just sort of by asking if you are bad and not defining it will get you a lot of different answers.

I tend to consider someone to be bad if they don't know encounters, go down a lot, and have builds that aren't optimized for damage (since any stat aside from Power, Precision, or Crit Damage is a waste). If you were to come and do a dungeon with me using only a Staff, I would ask you about your build, etc. If the replies were not to my liking then I would leave the group. I don't want to waste time in dungeons. At the same time, I'm not everyone and there are plenty of people that don't care about builds. These people probably wouldn't mind you playing with them, and I'm sure you would all get along fine. If you were to play with me or someone like me, we would both have a bad time and the game would not be fun. If you play with someone like you and I play with someone like me, we will probably all have a party and be happy. I don't really have a problem with the idea of "play how you want" as long as you are doing it with people that feel similarly or doing things alone. You bought Guild Wars 2 so you could enjoy playing it and have a good time, and you are entitled to having a shot at having a good time. People will try and take that away, sure, but just find people that you like to be around because you don't have to put up with elitists like me. Have fun and enjoy the game, just don't try and ruin other people's enjoyment with your own.

Hopefully that answer satisfies you.

#2231785 Thief vs Ranger

Posted Sarision on 07 September 2013 - 06:18 AM

It's simple really.

Do you want a pet or not?

If yes, go with Ranger.

If not, go with Thief.

Or hell, you can even go Thief + Mini Pet and still be a "Ranger."
