#2097361 AMA Post-Mortem Discussion, What You Got Out of It

Posted MazingerZ on 26 November 2012 - 10:51 PM

I won't be posting anymore quoting AMA that is currently on-going, despite the fact that the Guru News link hasn't been updated in over an hour, instead let's talk about what was discussed.

Vertical progression is here to stay.

Ascended gear was imagined post-launch.  They claim it should have been in there at launch.  This is a fix to what they perceive to be a design error in the gear progression.  Never mind the fact that Legendary-Exotic-level max stats were supposed to be balanced around the end-game.

Looks like the game's going to introduce a shallow power curve.  They won't introduce any new item tiers.  They are just going to raise the stats on new items.  Like WoW epics.

However, don't worry, ArenaNet is looking into the idea that maybe their grind is too much and re-evaluating the costs.  I'm sure they'll patch a price fix around the same time that Cash->Gem->Gold sales taper off from people trying to purchase ectos and other stuff off the TP.

In short, I will no longer be paying money to support this game.

You are not the only one at level 1. This is ESPECIALLY true as it's character bound and not account bound.
Two things:

1. It hasn't even been a week and people are advertising from 1-12 from what I've seen on my own server and overflows. It is also a touch more difficult to get past the lower levels because people are not familiar with the maps yet (Get swamp? Quit and re-try without voice comm) so wipes and rage quits come faster. It's going to be difficult to find a PuG for this very quickly. If it's not meant to be PuG friendly then the November 15th update was a whole lot of terrible.

2. The ascended item drops are account bound, not character bound. The difficulty levels earned may be character bound but I would never willingly limit my group options by jumping on another character when I could get so much more playing whichever of my characters has access to the higher levels. This is especially true since the ascended items come level 10+ are going to become more of a necessity; I'm not about to blow 500 T6 materials and 100 ectos just so I can have two characters who can perform on equal footing.

Ascended items, in their words, were supposed to be something to work on after exotics but before Legendaries. See, I find that kind of funny since when I look at the recipes for making those back items they require 250 of a T6 material (needed for Legendary), skill points (needed for Legendary), and ectos (oh look, needed for Legendary). How am I supposed to work on my Legendary when my ascended gear is consuming the materials I also need for my Legendary? Also, the whole fact that an exotic piece will cost a gold piece if you're not picky about the skin but ascended items? Probably 20+ gold, in that range? Anet that's not another step, that's a gargantuan leap.

There's no reason to believe him, or any Arenanet developer ever again. They're already already going back on the design principles they espoused for over five years.

#1741049 Lakeside County Server migration!

Me and my friend were going to swap over to Gunnar's Hold but if enough of our lovely Lakeside County community decide to get together else where we will gladly follow.

#1741129 Lakeside County Server migration!

The issue we have currently is that there is no widely known method of letting the players of LSC know that some of us would like to try and find a new realm together, our migration so to speak, rather than just scattering in the wind :P

I've been on lakeside for all of my beta weekends / stress tests and really enjoyed the community i've found myself playing with, as i'm sure a great deal of others have, so if we could retain some of our community when gw2 goes live that would be great :D

There was talk of Aurora Glade as a target destination as it looks pretty promising. After looking at the asuralabs server population poll (http://www.asuralabs.../serverPoll.php) it appears to have a medium size population and be primarily English speaking, granted this is based off a fairly small sample, but its the best indication we have for the time being by looks. Also, taking a look at the gw2guilds site (http://www.gw2guilds...eu/aurora-glade) we can see that it seems to have a fairly healthy amount of guilds planning to set up there, so it looks like we'd be on a fairly active realm.

Regardless, if we can get input from more LSC inhabitants that are interested in a migration then that would be great and we can take it from there. If we get access to any more stress tests before release then i'll make a point of mentioning this thread ingame to raise awareness :)

To Whom it may concern! Since Lakeside County got scrapped from the final list, we've been trying to stage a mass migration so that the awesome community can live on :D http://www.guildwars...d/#entry1740293

Looks like the thread followed suit with the server, gone :(

Regardless, those of us chatting ingame mentioned Aurora Glade as a potential destination where us Lakeside County inhabitants could move to on release, it looks like a medium population, primarily english speaking server. If any other Lakeside County players have anything to add, speak up :D
