#2143885 Cosmetic Reward is not the best carrot for an MMO

Posted BlairPhoenix on 16 January 2013 - 06:48 PM

Eh, I think the real issue is there simply aren't ENOUGH cosmetic rewards, and there aren't enough interesting different ways to get them. WoW had mini-pets and Mounts, some of which required specific tasks to get them, while GW2 atm really only has gear. I don't feel I need the carrot to be on the stick, but I feel like the carrot ANet is offering atm is a bit skimpy atm.

#2122745 Forcing players to PvP for World Completion

... Running naked or server switching?  Server switching is a workaround, not an actual fix.  Do you not know that we will not have free server switching moving forward?

The purpose of my suggestion to split the title between pve and pvp is to accommodate more people to be able to complete their title so that PvE-only people can feel a sense of achievement completing all the PvE zones.  Not to make the title exclusive to only a select few.
Your request runs directly counter to the intentions of this particular achievement, which was never about accommodating more players to complete it.

What it is meant to do is to hopefully persuade more people to try out wvw. Whether you end up liking wvw or not is besides the point.

So long as you are not able to reconcile with that, there's little room for negotiations, I'm afraid.

There is nothing exclusive about the title. It is open to all players, regardless of how good or bad at pvp we may be; we neither need to win another player in any form of combat nor personally complete any pvp objective to complete it.

These are pve objectives in wvw, placed there solely for pve with nothing at all to do with pvp.

I do not see server transfer as a legitimate solution either, but waiting for the opportune time to make a dash for it or simply follow the slipstream of your fellow server mates who are actively involved in wvw are both valid ways to do it.

Note that I don't call these "workarounds" either, not do I consider them "fixes" since nothing is broken here.
They are just two out of many ways.

Reading the OP's arguments just sound silly to me. All that "iseewutudidthar anet, u make me try to switch skills, i onto u!" it also sounds like the OP is most likely using a glasscannon build too which probably spirals onto the "everyone is killing me so fast, this isn't fair, I don't want to buy different armor" although I'm still confused how he tries to dispute the part about simply adjusting utility skills. "nooo i not change skillz dis is wat pvp is like, u not trik me!".

Which then leads me to wonder how you deal with other parts of GW2 like dungeons. Are you also in the same stance?

Him: "nonono I'm not bringing any defensive utilities, this is just a ploy from anet to make me PVP"
Party members: "What the hell you talking about? we need more support skills if we want to survive that boss"
Him: "It's all just a trick to make you pvp guys, dun be fooled!"

#2050389 Current State of the Game. Fun? Population? Will you continue to play?

Posted Sprinks on 29 October 2012 - 02:07 PM

For me, GW2 still has more potential than any other MMO on the market at the moment. Coming from WoW, it was time for a change, and for me personally, GW2 has delivered.

I think the game released with an utterly massive amount of content. It's comforting to know that ANet is committed to releasing what seems to be a major content patch every month or two. That's promising, and something only a few other MMOs can boast. It's also comforting to see how nimble the developers at ANet have the ability to be. When an exploit or game-breaking bug is found, they are able to shift their focus and fix it as soon as possible (the manner in which they fix some of them is controversial, I know - another conversation for another time).

As others have mentioned, it seems as if the problem here is the player. The expectations are too high. It's unreasonable to expect a game (or application) of this magnitude to release without bugs. It's unreasonable to expect a game to come out with infinite content. It doesn't seem as if the people that complain could ever be realistically satisfied. Ideas are suggested and often preceded by the phrase, "It would be easy to..." With hundreds of thousands of people playing and millions of lines of code, nothing that appears easy is easy.

Personally, I'm at 350+ hours, and I cannot tell you the last time I got that much enjoyment out of a game for $60.

#2082130 Here goes nothing.. Ranger Patch Notes 15 Nov

Posted lilPricea on 16 November 2012 - 12:29 AM

I quit the game instantly, waited two months for my ranger to become viable in PvP. Jon promised us significant changes to weapons and utlities and all we get is a nerf to traps and useless buff to water combat.

After all the BS which has been fed to us, I will never believe a word from ArenaNet again.

nothing wrong with that?
i wonder if you'd see a 1.75sec channeling skill in the middle of those wvw zergs.

Kill Shot currently is bugged with piercing causing it to do 10% more damage the more people it passes through (i.e. 10% more for each person it hits).

As for the rest of it, I can hit 20k on targets with 90% of the burst damage abilities of any of my 80s in full zerker gear on other people in full zerker or low level. This is a simple highlight video of a guy wailing on lowbies/zerker geared individuals that you're all taking as some sort of evidence that everything you've ever argued about is by default now in your favor. Sorry, but that's just idiotic.

Look we've had posts like these before, and there are only a few options available:

1) You don't even play an ele and just like that they are at the bottom of the food chain
2) You are talking about WvW where gear is much more important than class or skill
3) You do not know what the word "destroy" means

Because I can tell without you having to answer that you cannot back up that claim with a video against competent players. And no, a bunker outlasting a player over 2 minutes isn't "destroying":

By the way: I am on Ehmry Bay server. Opollo. So if you go against my server we can set up a duel. Hit me up.

Oh here we go. I kind of get tired of people whining about nerfs every two seconds. Every game I play. I just logged into Chivalry:MW and the FIRST thing I saw was people COMPLAINING about X is too weak and X is too strong...LIFE ISN'T FAIR.

1) Maybe you just aren't a good Elementalist and like all the other players who want a instant "IWIN" button.

2) If you think Elementalist need "buffs" in their current state or there is something "seriously" wrong with them, see 1.

3) Destroy means I have rarely if ever come across anyone in WvW that beat me. Doesn't mean I can't be beat.

Two best players I have fought in WvW was a warrior who literally took 75% of my health instantly and a thief.

People keep talking about this "skill" crap like sPvP is that much different. Running around in circles is hard apparently.

I had to try sPvP. I thought there was something "magical" and different about it. There isn't. People running around talking about fights matter more  in sPvP probably cause their team to lose thinking this is World of Warcraft... because correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure sPvP is just capture the point/kill mob fake LoL gameplay. Oh...and doesn't my team get like...a buff that makes me more effective...just like WvW?

Oh yeah....

It does.

You going to spend time soloing someone instead of objectives? Tsk tsk.

But I am sure you do that on point right?

You know....

Sometimes I feel that the Elementalist have the biggest learning curve of all the classes.

Which would explain why so many people are complaining about how "weak" they are.

You either know how to play or you don't. Period.

There are plenty of Elementalist here that give tips, advice and work arounds.

By the way, here's the definition of destroy. Take your PvP....I mean pick.

#2058885 Where is justice ?

Posted Opollo on 02 November 2012 - 11:40 PM

....you made a bunch of wild numbered assumptions and you rest your case at asking me if I played Tournaments?

You would have just been better off with "TLDR"...

...And people ACTUALLY take someone who complains about their class balance  and wants to apparently "duel" people in Tournaments?

If this was a case the judge would have thrown it out as soon as you started talking.

You complainers will cry for nerfs/buff forever.

Until you get your "iWin" button.

no i am not god of gw2

I am! :)

Just to throw my 2cents into the conversation: AA > AA > AA... would be considered a combo, technically. It is a series of attacks after all. Generally auto attack spamming is considered filler, A means to DPS when rotations/skills are on CD. But it also depends on where it is used in ones rotation.

This is how i would break down combo(rotation) VS filler attacks. Take the following

skill x > skill y > AA > Skill Z > AA > AA >AA

  Rotation (Combo) ___________  Filler

In this game, Hip shot would be considered an AA.

#1833384 PvE Kind of Boring?

Posted XPhiler on 28 August 2012 - 12:19 PM

View PostThe Kindly Man, on 28 August 2012 - 11:27 AM, said:

Not doubly, but yes, it's a boring, repetitive, non-challenging grind, just like GW2 - except colored differently.
Meaningless Quests are called Hearts, zergfest Rifts are called Dynamic Events.

Again, it's sad because most MMO players today never played EQ or the like, which had the original idea of PvE that needed just a little ironing and tweaking.

You did big, layered quests in search for a goal (access to somewhere or an item etc.).
You adventured in a persistent, contested world filled with danger and risk.
You were punished for failure and rewarded for success.
You had a decent amount of accessible content to the casual crowd and a decent amount that requested work and dedication for the hard-core crowd.

You didn't do stuff to level and get xp. You did stuff to get quests etc accomplished, and you leveled as a bonus in the process.

It's amazing that this concept - instead of being tweaked (less grinds, less mob camps) - has been completely forgotten since WoW came out, no new game even has contested dungeons (thankfully, apparently ES:O will) - and PvE has become the dull grind-fest in search of levels and xp that it is today in every single MMO.

I seriously dont know what to think after reading this post.. Only logical conclusion is along the years since Everquest vanilla you must have lot the wonderlust cause GW2 is exactly like what you're saying its missing.

"You did big, layered quests in search for a goal (access to somewhere or an item etc.)."
Check Its definitely big, Dynamic events interact which other both directly or indirectly and the goal is whatever you want it to be. why is your character adventuring? fame, fortune, wonderlust, Same reason as the main story line dictates?

"You adventured in a persistent, contested world filled with danger and risk."
Persistent check, contested check more so then Everquest as far as I can tell, Danger check, risk okey not so much, penalty for failure is there also though perhaps not that appearant. If you loose an event it puts the whole dynamic event story arch in a negative direction. Penalty here varies from loosing vendors or way points to being entirely cut off areas cause a bridge is destoryed. some also punish you by making you do more dynamic events to get to the final boss fighting stage.

"You were punished for failure and rewarded for success."
You are punished for failure and you are rewarded for success. Granted in the first few levels its not a big deal. In the 2nd Norn zone there is a bridge that the sons of svanir want to destroy to keep norn from crossing in their region. If they manage then there are 2 dynamic events you have to do in order to repair that bridge. Until that bridge is repaired everyone is basically cut off from 1/5 of the map give or take. Now again keep in mind this is a low level event 20 something. ITs a small dynamic event chain with 3 steps. Further down the game there are events that have 20+ stages and each of those stages can have a failure which will lead to difference consequences.

"You had a decent amount of accessible content to the casual crowd and a decent amount that requested work and dedication for the hard-core crowd."
Like wise here, Now I think your problem is you're approaching the game as a casual player while looking at it with the eyes of a hard-core player. Because the content is there its just you are not piecing it together!

"You didn't do stuff to level and get xp. You did stuff to get quests etc accomplished, and you leveled as a bonus in the process."

Level barely matters in this game, I play it exactly the way you wish to play it. I dont go looking for content to get the xp to level up, I go talk to NPCs to learn whats going on, I run after NPCs to see what they're going to, how the story is going to evolve. Every Event has a goal with a reward or a consiquence, not just to you but to the whole world. And these escalate the deeper you get in the game. There is litterally a huge world to explore and you're trashing it all based on having to fight a few mobs. Didnt you have combat in vanilla everquest I am curious?
