#2262788 Why you Can't Ignore Ascended Gear

It was added because Anet was going to add it to begin with, and Exotic was easier to obtain than anticipated. These are official reasons given by Anet employees.

Your personal opinion on why it was added has very little bearing on the thought process at Anet. You may claim it was added to give players a treadmill, but unless you have an Anet employee say that specifically, you have zero basis on which to make that assertion.
The definition of a gear treadmill is to put out another gear tier when a sufficient number of players have reached the previous one. Since exotic gear was "easier to obtain than anticipated", that must mean that a large number of players had reached exotic gear, just when ascended was released. Thus, it is the official statement of ANet that it is a gear treadmill. It is also the official statement that it is not.

ANet is calling themselves liars. Why do you think that their official reasons, arguments or standpoints mean anything at all?

I do stand by what I've said earlier in this thread; that a lot of rudeness/sarcasm leads to a more toxic environment and drags a healthy discussion down making it harder for the devs to filter good from bad input and that emotional responses are usually not as constructive or informative as when someone counts to 10 and tries to post objectively.

However I do agree that there are posts that start off rude or may contain an emotional response but may also contain useful feedback. To have those deleted can be detrimental. It's a difficult line, one which Anet is probably on the harsh side of right now and should probably re-evaluate their stance a bit.

I always use Blizzard and the way they deal with people as a baseline example. They're not too different from Anet though; more forgiving of people being rude if they make a valid point and try to discuss things with them whereas Anet just deletes the post and infracts the player.

I think it might also be a cultural thing. In some countries, like the US, customer service is required to be incredibly helpful to people; the customer is always right even if they aren't and even if they are being utterly unreasonable. Over here though it's not uncommon for a customer service representative to get cross with unreasonable/shouty/disrespectful customers and simply refuse to help them (mind you that that's only acceptable when the customer is pushing it, won't happen off the bat). So depending on what we're used to we may see Anet's action as normal or unacceptable.

Had to remove a few posts to keep this on topic for those that are trying to discuss the topic at hand.

Omg, Guru clamps down on open speech! Sorry I had to :P Apologies though for derailing.

Boiling point. The final straw. Pushed over the edge.

I won't support GW2 in things like this for as long as the ascendant gear betrayal goes on. They don't deserve awards or honours when they can't even keep their word.

Except they added the ascended tier because of player feedback and how quickly people were obtaining legendaries already.
