In Topic: [Answered] Fresh level 80 Gearing Question

30 December 2013 - 01:56 PM

When I first reached 80 I just crafted rare (yellow) gear which is fine for dungeons and low level fractals and then got full exotic through dungeon tokens from there. That said these days I would just buy or craft a full exotic set and transmute the looks I want onto it but I have enough cash in game now to be able to do that without sacrificing anything else.

In Topic: Using PS3 controller on your PC?

25 December 2013 - 06:30 PM

I had a similar problem with Dark Souls, but found that if you set the tool to read your PS3 controller as an Xbox 360 controller everything started to work fine. The key mappings were all perfect for Dark Souls but not sure if those games would require any re-mapping, but it's worth a try if you haven't already.

In Topic: End of Bazaar of the Four Winds

21 July 2013 - 02:26 PM

Judging by the content of next weeks patch it seems reasonably likely the Zephyr Sanctum and other Bazaar content will stick around for another couple of weeks in a similar way to Dragon Bash + Sky Pirates. I hope so as I just got back from holiday and would like that achievement myself, but I don't think there's any official confirmation either way.

In Topic: I could use some help choosing a headset

05 July 2013 - 09:50 PM

If you're looking up to $150 for a decent one I would highly recommend not getting a gaming headset; at that price point you can get vastly superior sound by getting audiophile headphones and getting a separate mic that clips onto the cord. Expensive gaming headsets tend to be gimmicky or you pay for label/fashion over quality. Also USB headsets are only worth it for very cheap sets. Audio jack connections are way better because they actually use your soundcard rather than the on-board drivers of a USB set and they can also be run through an amp or even your phone/ipod etc.

Can't comment on the effectiveness of surround sound sets but GW2 is mainly a horizontal game so stereo works just fine for it.

Open sets generally provide a better soundstage, so if you do get surround sound cans they will sound better if they're open. They're also more comfortable over prolonged periods as they don't cause your ears to get hot like a closed pair. The flipside is they allow sound in and out so you can hear background noise, probably including mouse clicks etc, and other people can hear what you can hear. They're very much for home use. Closed are basically the opposite.

I use http://www.amazon.co...io-technica m50 with http://www.amazon.co...keywords=zalman and can recommend them for GW2. Slightly over $150, but well worth it . These ones are closed, but they're very comfortable.

In Topic: Best way to transfer Karma into Gold?

10 June 2013 - 10:19 PM

Can get a whole load of orrian chests from temple vendors, reasonable chance of lodestones plus some junk that you can sell to vendor. I got ~1.3g plus 5 lodestones of various types (around 10g if I sold lodestones) from 124,000 karma last night so 2,000,000 should net you a reasonable amount. That includes feeding all the karma items you get from them straight back in with +55% karma boost on. Don't know if there's a more efficient way (buying karma exotics and mystic forging them maybe? Haven't tried).
